The Sea Witch Stole My Voice! Our Two Week Land and Sea Adventure! COMPLETE 4/12

Didn't waste any time on the ship after getting changed, we wanted to maximize our time in port. A quick scan of the Key to the World card and we were off the ship.

A nice person took a picture of Mom and I and I returned the favour.

Road Town was only a short walk from the ship, it took maybe five minutes to get into the town. First we had to go through "security". It was basically some guards checking to make sure that you had a photo id and your cruise ship boarding card as they will not let you back onto the dock unless you have both of those id's. The guard who checked mine warned me not to lose them or I would be stuck on Tortola. I laughed and said there could be worse things than getting stuck in paradise.

Our main goal on this expedition was to track down a drug store to get some cough drops and medicine. I think Mom asked every single person that we passed where we could find one.

The first place that we got directed to was more of a pharmacy counter where you pick up prescriptions than a regular drug store so they did not have what we were looking for so our search continued. We were told to go two blocks back from the main road and there would be a drug store next to the post office.

D11381.jpg

Once we left the main road the streets became very narrow and there were no sidewalks so we had to be very aware of any traffic. There wasn't much though on the back streets.

Well remember how we were told that the drug store was next to the post office? Well Mom made sure to ask a lady standing right in front of the post office where the post office was. :lmao:

We found the "drug store" right next to it like we had been told. It was nothing like a drug store here in Canada or in the States but it served its purpose. We found some cough drops and Nyquil and it was pretty cheap too.

As soon as we left the store I popped a cough drop and we made our way back to the main road.

The police station, if you are ever in Tortola and in need of the police the main station is easy to find. :thumbsup2 ;)

Mom and I browsed through all the shops but didn't really see anything that struck our fancy. In addition to the typical touristy stores there were some high end jewelry and watch stores. We went in there and admired all the pretty baubles before heading back to the ship.

On the way back to the ship we heard one rooster that kept crowing every 30 seconds or so. It was hilarious, he just wouldn't stop!

Weekend was fun. My university won the Yates Cup (football) and so are moving on the the National Championship(Vanier Cup). Work was busy though as a result as people felt the need to drink themselves silly and have huge parties to "celebrate".

Then Alek came over on Sunday and we decorated the tree(s) for Christmas. :thumbsup2

That sounds kind of fun!! I bet everyone is so excited!! How do your trees look? We put ours up this weekend too! Feel free to post pictures!! :goodvibes

Tortola looks so beautiful! I'm glad you were able to find some medicine too!! I laughed when I saw that the Bat cave has a sign quite similiar to this one superhero guy. :rolleyes1 That's hilarious! I wouldn't want to go in there though! Gross!

The random pultry sighting crack me up:lmao:

I'm old so forgive me if this has been answered already...did the ship not have anyplace you could have gotten the cough drops and cold medicine, or was it just outrageously priced:confused:

So glad you were eventually able to get your medicine and it looks like it enabled you to explore the island but as Janet said were there no meds on board?

Lessa! I'm in the middle of reading that tr!! I'm at the part after the Indiana Jones show where Erich thought that something had gone terribly wrong!! Anywho...I just wanted to say I am just like you with the "laughing fits". Although, I call them laugh attacks because when I was younger I knew this boy who did that and thats what he called them!!

Isn't it terrible though?! Especially when it comes out of the blue because you remember something and start cracking up and then someone asks whats so funny and you're laughing way too hard to talk and everyone thinks your crazy?! yeah I get that a lot! :rolleyes1

Will do. :thumbsup2

Yes, I thought the Bat Cave sign was funny as well. I didn't investigate to see if it was actually a cave of bats or just their funny name for a bar.

I have an extreme fear of bats so no way I would have gone there if it was actually a cave of bats. :scared1:

did you see any weird food stands, like roasted goat or anything like that.
:goodvibes

:lmao: No, I don't think they sell that kind of stuff down there. :rotfl:

More random poultry....how funny!:lmao: Tortola looks cute. I love the bright colors.:thumbsup2

Yep, poultry everywhere. Wait until you see what the random creature is on St. Thomas and Castaway Cay. ;)

One of the gift shops on board does sell the very basic medicine like Advil etc but the prices are more expensive than what you would pay on land. Also I didn't want to get flagged as having bought meds on the ship! I would have if we hadn't found anything in town or I might have waited to get to St Thomas the next day and gone to K-Mart. :lmao:

See my response above. ;)

We would have explored anyways it is just too bad that buying meds was part of the exploration.

Ah that Indiana Jones moment was so funny, I still laugh about it. :lmao:

I have laughing fits/laugh attacks all the time! In high school I was famous for them, I could never stop laughing even when I didn't know what I was laughing about. Somebody in the class would start laughing and so I would start laughing, so embarrassing! :guilty: Also often when I laugh I laugh so hard that I tear up and I can't breathe. :sad2:

Alek came over on Sunday and we decorated the Christmas trees. We had put them up earlier in the week and added all the lights and ribbon but we always wait for Alek before putting on the ornaments.

The living room tree the night before it got decorated.

Our cats LOVE the Christmas tree and as soon as it was up they were sleeping under it. I didn't get any pictures until after we decorated though.

All decorated! The metal for the top part of the tree somehow got warped and won't sit straight in the slot, that is why it looks like the tree is tilted. We are going to have to stuff some paper in to make the top stand up straight I think.

Yep you got it. Not only do they sell the typical American medicines for the tourists but they have ingredients for your basic voodoo workings as well.:laughing:
