The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Just stopping in quickly to say that I commented on some pics of Nola and one of my sister's. You all know that Gail and Mike are kooks when it comes to Holiday decorations, you have got to see what Mike is using to get all his lights up!

Ann, Raspberries are too cute...unless they are eating!!! Happy Shopping!

Nola is such a doll! That is too funny about the lights...something my BIL would do!

Morning Y'all,

Lauren, Welcome home!! So sorry the big guy has the flu, believe me it stinks! I'm glad the trip went so well! The TIW card is neat isn't it. And OMG, I will tell Bob you want candy! T is calling Andrew, already! Sweet!:goodvibes

Becky, Why do I now want salmon for breakfast?!:goodvibes

Ann, Christmas shopping, good for you!:thumbsup2 Sorry no food porn today, leftovers last night!

Nancy, You're right Buddy's come a long way! Drawing a bath for a cold, is pretty good! :thumbsup2 I can't see Gail's pic, I think if you click on share, it will put it on your wall???

It's as yucky as it was yesterday. I have a hair appt & I don't even feel like going out. A was feeling stuffy & her throat was hurting but no fever so I sent her to school. I'm not sure what's for dinner, maybe salmon or halibut that's in the freezer.

Oh dear, I see the smack talk has already started between the Nola gals and the NE fans.

Maria -- I hope Greg is feeling better today. Men are such wimps! I'm so glad Emily is able to go to Chicago.

Alan has the same thing, and he so wanted to stay home today. I cringed when he called work, but they told him they really needed him, so I breathed a sigh of relief as he walked out the door.
 I hope he is feeling better too.

It seems like the man cold is making the rounds...Vickie's hubby and Lauren's need some well wishes too! Lauren, I can't imagine driving while sick with the flu. I hope Tom stays safe and delays the drive if necessary.

Welcome back, Lauren! I'm glad you liked Rose and Crown. That is one of the kids' favorite places. We love the view too.

I bought a turkey to cook this week and I'm planning on pot pies with the leftovers. They are just to cheap this time of year not to cook one up.

I have been thinking about doing that too. I have to go to the store today, so if turkey is on sale, maybe I will make one Thursday.

Ellen -- :yay: Great news about Jay! You really will have a very grateful Thanksgiving.

The boy,who remember is also struggling, had had enough and told him......." get a grip ya big jessie !! "
:rotfl2: Too funny! I'm glad your boy is feeling better.

Kathy -- I'm sorry about the crown, especially since it means more dentist visits.

Y'all crack me up with your sick DH stories. My DH is the same way!

They are ALL that way! You would think my airborne ranger husband was dying when he has a cold.

Marilyn -- How did your niece do swimming the 500m? Did she like doing the longer swim?

Today is our gymnastics day, so I'll probably do the usual breakfast dinner for the kids and soup for me.

We actually heard Thomas calling Andrew the other day...saying ANN DO! Too cute.

Awwwww....what a wee scone and love him getting his hair cut in the barbers shop.

I have pic's of DH gettin his done there...I might just have to post them !!

Glad youse had a great time.,

I started my :santa: Christmas shopping this week. It feels good to have some of it under my belt.

Big cut backs here Santa wise this year.:sad1:

Im going to start on line tonight.

Very early for me but with Colin loosin his job in feb I want to use this months wage to get stuff...no credit card.

Colin is gettin a wee bit anxious, there is just nothing work wise.

And I dont just mean in his line, there is just nothing anywhere.

But hey,as my Na - Na used to say " whats for ye,will no go by ye "

Hope youse have a good day...BBL !!

Prayers for Colin, a job & his anxiety.:flower3:

Love your Na - Na's quote!

Kathy, I am sorry about your tooth. That really stinks.

Sheryl, I think I am making your soup tomorrow. I have the day off so offered to make dinner for my parents since my Mom has to work and John is in New York. My Dad wants soup, but my Mom wants chicken because my brother is going to be there and he eats no vegetables. (He is SO weird!). So, I am just going to make both and then everyone will be happy.

Ellen, I am glad that Jay is going to be home for Thanksgiving!

Lauren, I am glad that you had a great trip, and I hope Tom feels better soon.

I have a hair appointment after work, so dinner will have to be something quick when I get home. Maybe breakfast for dinner.

The boy is having Brinner.:)

I just called my hairdresser...for the boy !!

He needs his cut 6 weeks  ,me,I get mine done when my roots become tips !!

Lauren
- We really enjoyed T-Rex too.

Good food and nice big platefuls,DH even struggled to finish his starter and that is unheard of !!

Were did youse sit ?

I read on here to ask to be in the ice cave and it was sooooo cool.

The Boy loved the colour changes at the meteor shower.

This is now a must do on his list.

It's really sad when I can't even keep my days straight. Today is Tuesday, which means skating and ballet, not gymnastics, so we'll grab sandwiches or something in between.

Vickie -- I hope that the job market turns around after the new year.

Lauren, Ann and Glynis -- I love hearing the stories about your little ones. I can't believe how big they are getting!

Oh dear, I see the smack talk has already started between the Nola gals and the NE fans.

Robin started it!!! ;)

I am going to watch this one from the WFD sidelines!

Keeping you all in my prayers! I know how frustrating it can be. You Na-Na was a wise woman.

Just checking in...Greg has gone to work today!!!!!!!!:cool1:
Although when he returns it will be a moan-fest...

I'm going for a cut & color today so I'll be back later.

:rotfl2: Buddy has come a long way from asking my sick self "Do you want some tea?" and then bellowing "RISA! Make your Mother tea!" to running a bath if I am sick. He has no idea what else to do so he runs hot water an pours Kady's vapobath into it. He has found his sensitive side ;):rotfl::thumbsup2

 Maybe there is some hope for DH afterall!

Good Morning~ Quick check in...I am trying to get some stuff done but it is hard with Tom being sick. He went to the dr...he has the flu. They put him on Tamiflu so I am just trying to keep myself and the kids germ free. The Lysol is getting good use since we are home!

I am going to pick up Riley later. I miss him. My sister said he is doing well but stinky since he cannot get a bath. I have to make a follow up appt for him.

As far as the trip, it was great. We really enjoyed the Sheraton...we bought timeshare but may back out. We could use that $ towards some new furniture and I really liked the Beach club so may buy there someday...or just get some more DVC points.

 to Tom. I hope he doesn't share.

Do you have any wet wipes? When I couldn't wash my dogs for whatever reason and they were stinky, I wiped them down with wet wipes. Helps with the smell. I bet he'll be so excited to see you!!!

Good luck deciding on the timeshare.

Aimee, how have you been feeling?

I don't really know :confused3 Well, I do but I don't. I know the drug is doing something, as my joints are not pounding anymore, but I am now getting pain everytime I eat and sometimes when I'm not which is not good. I go between wanting my GI's opinion to not wanting to see him until I have given it a full 3-6 months. I fear he'll want to send me to a surgeon next :sad1:

I can self medicate with Tylenol and Vicodin (depending upon the severity of the pain) and continue eating and functioning and wait it out. But, I know I may be building up more damage. Or I can go with plan B and have them cut it out knowing I still have to find a maintance drug anyways :confused3 Or I could go on high dose steroids for awhile to see if that kicks things into gear, which brings a whole host of other issues.

I'm so confused!

I feel ya! DH has been unemployed over a year now - though I admit he has given up on finding something now. It's so discouraging to be rejected by the few positions out there. The good news is that you were able to give your boy a fantastic trip to WDW recently and that can always be part of your holiday gifts. He's old enough to understand (that is if he doesn't believe in Santa...?)

This is my one evening home for the next 2 weeks or so. I am making sour cream chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. YUM!!

I'm really excited about next thanksgiving though, we're going on a suprise trip to disney. We aren't going to tell the kiddo until we pick her up from school and leave. I think it will be so much fun, and it's only a little more than a year away!

Surprising kids with a Disney trip is cool but by then you will be a basket case! We did it 4 years ago and only had six months to get through before we surprised them. My BFF and I would be in the car talking about it and suddenly think "did we say anything we shouldn't" and the kids wouldn't be with us. :rotfl:

Marilyn, I am totally jealous of your fresh king crab legs!

I didn't get the fresh ones, they were $21.99 a pound! :scared1: We got the nice frozen kind for $6.99. :rotfl: And they were nice, I had them and some shrimp too. :cloud9:

At first I couldn't figure out how they had fresh, never frozen and realized it was the season which means my guys from Deadliest Catch are out at sea right now.
Marilyn -- How did your niece do swimming the 500m? Did she like doing the longer swim?

She seemed to like it okay, she came in 9 out of 12 which isn't too bad considering she just did it in competition for the first time. My sister said that it really isn't too bad a length and that they do it during practice just at a more leasurely pace.

Dinner tonight will be at Dave and Busters, it is my godson 9th birthday today. I have to go find the movie The Wiz for him, have to feed his Michael Jackson obsession. :rotfl:

Marylynn- I'm already a basket case, I think planning a vacation is almost as fun as the actual vacation part. It also looks like we'll be staying in the treehouses, but won't know for sure until December. My parents are going with us and we are staying on their points. I'm one lucky kid. See, I butchered your name again!

Aimee- Your enchiladas sound so good, I really need to branch out from the enchilada kit they sell at the grocery store.

Vickie- I'm so glad you liked T-rex, my daughter loves dinosaurs I'm planning on taking her there.

Lauren- Thomas must look so handsome with his new haircut, I'm glad you all had a nice time.

I love how I exhausted my football knowledge starting trouble!

Tonight is swimming (Laura, is that something Liam would like instead of gymnastics?) so ribs in the pressure cooker, cornbread, and carrots.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi, all! Nice day here. I've already been out errand running, and am now home. Timothy and I went grocery shopping and then to the school to help with the take home reading program. He's napping now, and I'm catching up here.

As those of you on facebook know, Timothy started walking last night. He worked so hard on it all day yesterday, and when Alan was home, he was ready to show off! It was so cute to see his little face all serious as he concentrated on keeping his balance, and when he reached Alan, he just looked up with the biggest grin on his face! It was so cute! I do have to admit that I cried, though. It's so wonderful to watch him grow up, but it's also bittersweet!

I have scouts this afternoon, so I've got to get some stuff done before then. Luckily, it shouldn't be too hard. Dinner tonight is a beef and rice skillet dish with cheesy brussels sprouts on the side. I also found a gingerbread recipe that I want to try this afternoon. Hopefully, I'll find the time!

Lauren – I’m so sorry to hear that Tom has the flu. I sure hope he’s feeling well enough to travel, poor guy. How is Riley doing?

Ann – I got started on Xmas shopping last week, does feel good to get started!

Sheryl – I hope A is feeling better this afternoon.

Vick – Prayers for Colin. I, too, love your Na-Na’s quote!

Laura – It’s no wonder you can’t keep your days straight with the multiple schedules you need to meet, you amaze me!

Maria – Glad to hear that Greg was feeling well enough to go back to work, hopefully he’ll not be too “moany” when he gets home.

Glynis – Well of course you cried when your baby walked, that’s what we do!

Sorry if I missed anyone or anything, not much DIS time for me lately.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted the last couple days because I have been in a funk. I really thought I was on the uphill swing, but last Friday was the two month mark and I spent most of the weekend depressed. I know time makes things better, but the upcoming holidays aren't helping much.

Anyway, tonight's dinner is shrimp creole, rice and cornbread.

Afternoon everyone,

Thanks for the good wishes for Jay. We are all so excited to have him home for a couple of weeks. But I hope it won't be too hard on Ethan when he has to leave again. As far as the packages go - THANK YOU! Just hang on to them for a little while and then send them. He will be so excited to have them. He so appreciated all you have done for him.

I have cleaned house all day and now I need a shower and to go get Ethan from school. I have Bunko tonight so I need to get dinner early.

I am fixing Sheryl's Seared Scallops with Warm Tuscan Beans. I am so excited to try this. I also have garlic bread to go with.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I will try to catch up with you all tomorrow. Have a great evening.

Glynis, your story about Timothy walking has me crying...just thinking about my little's one time not far behind. They get to big to quick. :sad1: Just picturing that proud little grin looking up at Alan, makes my heart melt.

Gretchen, :grouphug: funks are not fun. We are all here when you need us, just know you are not alone.

Robin, I have alot of young swimmers in our family. They love traveling to meets.
