Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

Hi John,
Welcome back to the thread! :)

If you managed to get your name in on time, and if you are getting a lanyard, Amy/Fluvanna are asking for voluntary donations in order to cover the costs when you pick them up. I mailed my cheque in October, but I know many are going to do so on the ship.

These gals are working hard on these so any help you can help with contributions is greatly appreciated:)
You were the last to make the list. Giving at port when you pick up your lanyards is fine.

Mommyoftwinfants and I about have the tags printed.

fluvanna

I have plenty of badge inserts so can make extra inserts for those of you who joined the board after we ran out of the 100 lanyards we ordered. NHDisneylover (Hadley) is still collecting the names of those who want to be include in our DIS roll call for this cruise. If your name is after JD&LYD on the list I can make your nametags but you would need to get your own lanyard put it in (our tags are vertical or portrait orientation)

If you want to be on this list, PM NHDisneylover (if you have enough posts - just click on her name (see post #1535 on p.103) and send her a message and she will edit the post to add you). If you are too short on posts to PM right now, just post there that you want to be on the roll call list with your DIS name, real first names and the first names and ages of kids if any, and whether you have early or late dining. (you can look at post #598 to see the Roll Call list).

We're going ton the BVI trip dec 5-12. Am i on the right board?
Nope, that ship sailed early. We're now going to Venezuela & Colombia and will be gone for 2 weeks. Didn't they tell you that?:scared1:
Sorry, I actually think I'm funny sometimes. Yes you're on the right board and the right thread to Tortola, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay. It's going to be a fantastic time!

My dd tells me there's something called FE gifts. What is that?
FE gifts are Fish Exender gifts. I've never been on a Disney Cruise yet, but I understand there is a fish ornament hanging outside everyone's stateroom door. People hang a decorated 'extender' from the 'fish' and put their names on the list to receive gifts (mostly dollar store items?) Unfortunately, the FE list has been completed in order to give people appropriate numbers for sharing etc. Just the same, I'm hanging a Christmas Stocking on ours for the fun of it and stuff it occasionally for our kids.

How do i find out who's on my trip the same time?
NHDisneylover (Hadley) has a link from all of her posts with a Roll Call of those participating from this board. Stateroom numbers are not included for safety but you can get an idea of who is all travelling. The best way is to stick around this thread, ask questions and also let us know more about yourselves. We're from Toronto, Canada, what about you?

It's just me and dh in our mid fifties second seating.
We're all split up between seatings etc., but Hadley's link will show who is with which seating. (Change to early dining and we'll throw dinner rolls at you;))

Like to meet some of you on board!!
Then don't forget to join us in Lumieres restaurant on Sunday morning at 9:00AM. Most of us will be there.

Or anyone going to stay at saratoga the night before like we are?
Not us, we're at Caribbean Beach Resort, but others may be and will (possibly) let you know who they are.

We like to eat late, hence second seating, walk around the ship, see all the shows and movies, not drink much if at all...boy we sound boring!! :lmao:
No drinking??? Actually, we don't drink much either, though a cold beer on a hot day is always nice.

See you in 3.5 weeks!:):cool1:

Too funny! As long as she hasn't forgotten me, I'm cool with it. I have been so worried about forgetting something important like the FE or FE gifts or all the lanyards. I'm surprised I haven't started losing sleep over it yet

I printed out a magnet for our door last night. I am a night owl, so these are the things I do when the family is sleeping. In fact, I have 2 out of 3 of our next vacations partially planned and partially booked. Coworkers talk about what they watched on TV, and I never have a clue, but ask me about Disney or Hawaii, St. John, etc., and I can talk all day
I am a night owl too. I do most of my cruise planning, research, etc. late at night. Sometimes early in the a.m. Looking forward to meeting you on the cruise and Jessica is so looking forward to meeting your girls!

Nope, that ship sailed early. We're now going to Venezuela & Colombia and will be gone for 2 weeks. Didn't they tell you that?:scared1:

Not a bad idea. I've been wondering if DCL is ever going to do a 10-14 day Southern Carr. Cruise.:yay: I can just see us , Aruba, Jamaica, c'mon lemme take ya:dance3:

We just got our cruise documents, too. We have 2nd dining even though we have a 1 year old but I think she'll be fine. Also, y'all say a quick prayer for our family. My father-in-law is having quadruple bypass surgery this evening. Kind of unexpected. We are waiting to see if we will still be able to go on the cruise.:sad2:

Thanks,
Deena

Our thoughts & prayers are being said for your FIL. :grouphug:

Welcome

wuv tigger

I have 2 other message boards to donate ... TinkerBelle dry erase boards at that :thumbsup2

Our family will keep one on deck 2 aft.

I can't remember who was willing to do mid ship & forward. :confused3

Does anyone remember?

These will be used for families to make note IF their cabin # changes, mini meets, etc.

IF you are willing to have it on your stateroom door, please "quote" this post with your screen name & either midship or forward.

thanks,

wuv tigger

Anybody notice that we're now at 100 pages of this thread?

Mainly due to all those contributions by Scothen and brennan1231:cheer2::lmao:

Likely won't make it to 200 with 3.5 weeks to go and less than that before many people head on out.

Just the same, Happy Century Thread!:cheer2::cheer2:

We just gotta get the chatty ones posting away ... :rotfl:

and those who are up in the middle of the night

and those who kiddos don't know about this cruise

and those who want to change their 2nd seating to 1st :scared1:

and those who put their door magnets from their last DCL cruise in a safe place but can't remember WHERE that SAFE place is right now ...:rotfl2:

Our FE was delivered this afternoon and I wanted to share a picture. We have another FE done by the same person (grady's mom on ebay) but I really wanted one with Christmas colors since we've beens sailing 4 Decembers in a row and will also sail next December:

How cute:) I did not know you could have one made from ebay. Great idea:thumbsup2 With the ridiculous cost of fabric in Germany I will have to keep that in mind.

Thanks so much! Nowadays, when I get home from work I can't believe how much I missed.

That is how I feel when I wake up in the mornings (especially today--you al posted 3 1/2 pages after I went to bed!).

Regarding the motion sickness discussion - anyone know what I can give my DD4? She gets car sick sometimes, so I am nervous about her on the ship.
Since ginger works so well for David and Rio occasionally has motion sickness in cars our NH doctor recommended Rio suck on some ginger candy drops (from health food stores).

I guess we foreigners get the 'preferential treatment':snooty::cool2::lmao::cool1:
I guess we are jsut more special:upsidedow

We are booked on this cruise. We are completely new to the Disney Cruise- it is our first time. We are there celebrating for my mother's 70th birthday. There are 7 of us. My kids are 6, 4 and 1.

Seems so many people know each other already!

Welcome:goodvibes I am Hadley. I will be traveling with my DH David and our kids Marika (turning 13 in December) and Rio (turning 11 in December). This will be our 7th Disney cruise (obviously we love it). We also get to spend a week at WDW beforehand-with my best friend. It will be our first trip to the USA since we moved to Germany on February 1st.

Thanks,
Deena
Oh Deena, we will absolutely keep your father in law in our thoughts:hug:
Thanks for the kudos, but I think my small contribution pales in comparison to yours, Hadley's and many others.

Scot
Scot--you have done a great job of jumping right in and getting to know everyone. I think it is fantastic:thumbsup2

So, what's FE gifts and ...etc? Thanks!
Hi and welcome. Everyone on this thread will be on the Magic from the 5th-12th of December with you:yay: I am sorry, but as Barry explained, FE gifts are closed for this cruise (we just need more time to plan:rolleyes:) but we will all be thrilled to meet you. Please join us for breakfast on SUnday morning at 9:00 (Lumieres) so we can all meet you. We also like secdon seating, the shows, etc. We are not big drinkers either, but David may have 1-2 drinks in a day on vacation and I may have some wine once in a while.

I have plenty of badge inserts so can make extra inserts for those of you who joined the board after we ran out of the 100 lanyards we ordered. I thought I would start a thread collecting the names of those who want nametags but would still need to get their own lanyard to hang them from.

If you want to be on this list, PM me (if you have enough posts - just click on my name and send me a message and I will edit this post to add you). If you are too short on posts to PM right now, just post here that you want to be on the non-lanyard list with your names and the names and ages of kids if any (you can look at post #598 to see the other Roll Call list). We also put whether you had early or late dining.

Fluvanna:wizard:

Fluvanna--I am confused:flower3: I thought I was just keeping a roll call for everyone. Since I add people in at the bottom when they send me their info then you can also easily use it to create badges, but I was not planning on stopping after the lanyards ran out. Should I stop? I was all set to ask our new posters to PM me their info until I got to this post:confused3

Our family will keep one on deck 2 aft.

I can't remember who was willing to do mid ship & forward. :confused3
Does anyone remember?

These will be used for families to make note IF their cabin # changes, mini meets, etc.

I was going to do forward, but after our upgrade we are now in aft so someone else needs to volunteer for that please:flower3:

Since everyone has been talking about how many posts we have gotten up to, I went and checked to see who the top posters are just for kicks and giggles:

#5--mommyoftwinfants...................67 posts
#4--Inkmahm................................100posts
#3--Carmie...................................149posts
#2--NHDisneylover (hey that's ME)...178posts
#1--(no surprise here!)Tower...........282posts

We were able to get Marika into the doctor this morning. She does have flu (they think H1N1 but are not testing) and also a secondary sinus infection. Sigh--good to get it over with now, but it adds up to a lot of missed school with vacation in their so soon.

This must be the magic day - we also got our cruise docs! :goodvibes

Now I wonder where our ME luggage tags are for the pre-cruise stay at BLT....

Regarding the motion sickness discussion - anyone know what I can give my DD4? She gets car sick sometimes, so I am nervous about her on the ship.

recommended that we give our kids 1/2 of a dramamine but they are 7 & 9.

Check with your ped/MD.

My sister swears by the sea bands for my nephew.

Our dk is getting sick in the car all the time now. I am now willing to try to the sea bands to see if they will work for her.

I am AVOIDING the school for the next 3 weeks.:scared1: TOO many germs, viruses, strep, stomach bugs for me.

I am supposed to be in school the day we leave for FL ~ Dec. 4th. :scared1:
I am going to get another parent to fill in for me.

DH is going to have lunch with the kiddos next Thurs. for their Thanksgiving meal. I ain't risking getting sick before our cruise. :thumbsup2

I don't want to be sick

I also read on another cruise thread a couple years ago that green apples were good for kids that tend to get motion sick. My boy's pediatrician told me I could give them half an adult bonine. I know they make kids bonine too but I tried one once and they were pretty yucky tasting. Their doctor told me kids rarely get sea sick because their center of gravity is lower and something to do with their inner ears. Of course that was when Keegan was 9 and not now when he's getting taller than me!

We've had our kids nearly scrub for surgery before they touch their mouths to eat. We have parents day next week at the elementary school and a fall sports banquet tonight at the middle school. We'll be sure to bring our purrell and antibacterial wipes along. We are the only family I know that hasn't been hit by H1N1 around here. I guess if we get it now, we have time to get over it before the cruise but I don't want to get it! Our school district seems to be the last one around to get the vaccine in the "lottery" they are doing to choose who gets it.

Also, for those that have a Paypal account or want to open one, Amy can take a Papal payment that's really easy to use. She just sends her personal email and you log on to paypal, put in your donation amount and send it.

They compile school stats and send them out to the doctors here. Marika and Rio's school had almost 150 kids out yesterday (about 15%) and almost 20% of the teachers:eek:
Sometimes I really miss homeschooling!

Oh, and I have heard of green apples (Rio is always eating those so I tend not to think of them as extra!) and also ginger ale and peppermint gum.

Sounds like our school's absentee rate. Brennan plays football in Gettysburg and they had 360 kids out 2 weeks ago. My son's classess have had about 6 kids out in their classes per day. Knock on wood my boys have only missed 1 day of school so far this year and that was last week when we were at Disney. They'll miss 6 days in December though. Luckily their teachers are encouraging of vacations and will give them their make up work that they can work on here and there on the cruise.

Hope she gets well soon before the holidays and the vacation. Better now then closer to sailing. I would rather get sick now then on the cruise.
