The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Marilyn -- I have woken up early every day this week too. It's not even just an hour earlier than usual...more like two. :confused3 You can hide the game updates on FB. If you go to the right of the update, it will say Hide. You have the option to hide the person or the application.

I am beginning to think it is a combination of things, I barely slept last night and my poor mouth was so dry everytime I woke up. I have eaten out a lot in the last week and have not been drinking enough water. The only really good thing I have done is had a banana every day this week. :sad2:

I have decided after this weekend I am going to seriously cut down on the eating out. I am going to finish the food cataloging and the menu and get back to doing Weight Watchers.

I have to tell you all a funny, I am soooo sleepy today and I was transfering a call to my boss. When it is something she really has to answer I will call her name and tell her who I am transfering. Today I called her Mom!:rotfl:

Aimee & Maria-

Nancy- I can tell you from personal experience that even the most lazy, defiant, screw up, I don't want to live by the rules person will do well and even excel in the military. I think it is because there is no easy out, unlike most things in real life.

Dinner tonight will be the salmon I was supposed to have earlier this week. I have a football game tonight, last one for the JV player. I hope I have enough blankets in the car, it is really chilly and windy outside. :cold:

Aimee - hugs to you. It'll happen when the time is right.

Maria - I'll never understand why some people have kids and are not good parents (trying to be nice here); and why there are far too many who want them and can't have them.

Emdy want a Christmas card fae Scotland !? :flower3:

That would be cool!! Welcome back Vickie!

If I do end up by myself - do you ladies have any extra freezer space? Stay tuned!!

No, but I have a friend with an excavator. And a coupla sites to use it at ;)

Which is why I wish my daughter's boyfriend (supposed fiance) would get in. He's too lazy to lose the 20 lbs he need to be accepted.

Have fun at the game tonight and stay warm!!

Tonight is food from somewhere. We'll probably pick up something on the way home. Bob's meeting me this evening at the dealership - I'm finally getting my car repairs done. And he'll probably be too tired and/or dirty to eat in a restaurant. I'm taking some vacation days Friday and Monday. Tomorrow I won't have a car, so I'll probably do laundry and start putting together my Disney binder for our trip next year. Which means I'll be hanging out on these boards all day tomorrow :lmao:. Monday, Smudge has a checkup with the Eye Vet, and since that's a hour away from home, I usually take a vacation day for it. Course, if we could bring dogs to work, it would be great, because its only 10 minutes from my office.:upsidedow

Emdy want a Christmas card fae Scotland !? :flower3:

I sure do!! We have missed you. How are you?

:grouphug:  Aimee and Maria - I am SO sorry.

Sheryl ~ Happy Belated Birthday to our girl. I so hope she had a great day. Love the story.

Janice ~ thanks so much for the Christmas card list. I PM'd you. I would love to be a part of this, this year. Thanks :flower3:

Glynis ~ How was dinner last night. Did it all work out for you and Allan?

Nancy ~ I love your stories about Buddy. He is just a riot. Someday we just HAVE ot get our guys together. I can't wait to try the coffee cake. Thanks!

Gretchen ~ Did you enjoy your lunch with your Mom? How are you feeling? Better I hope.

Maria ~ :cheer2: for Emily and I sure hope her Dad comes around. She has worked so hard for this. I have a lot more to say, but let's just leave it at this. ;)

Robin ~ 15 pounds!!:cheer2::cheer2: Way to go girlfriend. That is wonderful.

Laura ~ I so hope Greg does get to go. How is he doing? I think of him often. It would be just great if the stars do line up and he can join you all in WDW. Be sure to thank him for us, for all he does. You must be so very proud.

Becky ~ Love the Greek salad - thanks. Your pictures just make me want to lick the screen.

Ann ~ I am so glad your weekend went so good. I thought about it all day on Sunday.

Kat ~ ENJOY your weekend!! Having Kyle home will be great for you and Johnny. ENJOY!!! How is the ankle doing?

Wendie ~ How was the French lesson? A cute story - 2 years ago we were in France and I kept asking Stephanie what everyone was saying. She had no idea - but had taken 5 years of French. :confused3:rotfl2: Go figure!!

Zip ~ Thanks for the offer. The day isn't getting any better I might just take you up on the offer. MEN!!! You are right - they just don't get it.

As far as the time change - I agree. I like this better than in the spring when we go forward though. I am sleeping just wonderful, but Cooper (our boxer) is getting Doug up an hour earlier. He gets up with the sun so when he sees the sun and the roosters crow he thinks it is time to get up no matter what time it is. :rotfl2: Silly dog.

Well there, I am caught up, at least for an hour or so. :goodvibes

Hey y'all,

I read through but my brain is not processing. Too many meds & I'm depressed. DH's b-day is tomorrow, A's party is Sunday & I still feel like crapola! I'm sad & mad!

Aimee, I guess you just needed to talk to us gals! I too understand. I had been trying for years, when my cousin popped up pg, not trying. She was so worried about my reaction she waited months to tell me.

Maria, Hugs for you too friend! When are we going to get to see some furniture pictures? Becky's not making furniture, YET;), so you can show us that!! But Laura might decide to do furniture so hurry up & show us!:lmao:

Nancy, I'm sure Angelina would have many more tales of me embarrassing her! I with Lauri, the pics she puts up on FB & then tags me with are bad enough!

Vickie, That's a yes! :goodvibes I love all of your pics on FB, that is one photogenic boy! :lovestruc

Marilyn, I hope you get some rest, Mom for a boss is not good!;)

I felt good enough last night to make Nancy's spicy lentil soup, thanks Nan! it was just what the dr order! helped clear my sinuses for an hour or so!:goodvibes

Tonight I'll probably get DH to pick up dinner.

Aimee & Maria, you girls are both strong wonderful woman and your time will come. It is so hard to understand why things happen the way they do, and cause so much heartache sometime. I waited what seems like forever to find the man of my dreams and be a mother. I was not blessed with DS till I was 37, and DD at 40. There were many times over the years I would leave my big family parties in tears. Thinking my time would not come and feeling hopeless. :grouphug: Many of us here can really relate to closely. Any support and friendship needed we are here!!

Did Lauren have any success with her open house? I know she has been busy.

Vicki, I would love holiday greetings from over seas!!!

----------
WFD- depends on the weather...no rain Shish Kabob, my backup plan is veal cutlets or veal marsala.

Thanks for the recipe Nancy, I think I'll make it tomorrow. Thanks for the nutrition info too, I skipped over that part.

Sheryl- Well at least you have two full days to get better, I'm sure you'll be fine by then. I hope Bob has a nice birthday and Alexis' has fun at her party.

Ellen- In Doug's defence, I think I'd want to stay home too.

Lauri- That's why I think our termite guy has the best job, he gets to bring his dog with him. Enjoy your long weekend.

Well Vickie you've been caught, time to come out of hiding.

Time for my afternoon coffee.

I forgot to say earlier..

Wendie, It's nice to have you back at home!!! :goodvibes

French story, On our way home 2 weeks ago, the Sky-Cab at Orlando airport was from Haiti, a very nice & super helpful guy, but he was determined to speak to me in French because of my last name & being from Nola! I couldn't understand a thing he said! I explained that in my family the elders spoke French when they didn't want the yougsters to know what they were talking about, plus I made C's in french! But he kept trying to talk to me in French:rolleyes1. All the while Bob was stuck on the ME bus, the lift wouldn't work. We are waiting & waiting, it took 3 ME drivers to get the lift working about 15-20 minutes. Finally when DH was free, the guy was able to speak to him in French, which seem to make him very happy!

I did a few Victorian birdhouses this week, have 2 coats left to do on them. If anyone is interested I will send you my photobucket link.

Afternoon friends--
It was 34 here this morning and snowing...it is still snowing, but thank goodness melting when it hits the ground....I hate the snow...I'm still wearing flip flops, lol.

Aimee-- I too understand very well how you are feeling!! It is normal, and it is an emotion that men just can't grasp!!

Vickie--Yes, would love a card from across the pond!! Loved the pics of "The Boy" on FB!!

Glynis--How did your business dinner go for you and Alan?

Maria--Your story broke my heart....you are a strong amazing women and your time will come my friend!

Nancy--I love Buddy stories!!!

Becky--YUM!!

Ok I've lost my train of thought...the phone has rang 4x since I started, and Ross has a house full of boys who went on the trampoline in the snow realized it was cold and wet, who are now rummaging in the fridge and playing poker with sweet tarts for money.....My Goodness, lol.

Supper is a Yo-Yo night!! My antibiotics are making my stomach not friendly, so I have no interest in cooking.

Maria, The pics aren't showing up? Would you send me the link?

Wendie, A house full of cold, wet & hungry boys! That would send me back to bed & hiding under the covers!

Offering prayers for those stationed at Fort Hood. :sad1:

Marilyn,

i also am having trouble with the time change. I cannot figure out when it is bedtime and I sure cannot mange a proper rising time. I have been waking up at 3:30!

We are hoping that Jennifer benefits from the discipline and the structure. I know that Timmy did a complete turnaround and thrives in the Marine Corps and that Chris has been very comfortable with the structure and the routine he has had. Jennifer is like a lost puppy. A lazy not too bright puppy....:sad2:

Sounds like a good day!

Nancy ~ I love your stories about Buddy. He is just a riot. Someday we just HAVE ot get our guys together. I can't wait to try the coffee cake. Thanks!

He is a little afraid of what I post about him  Marisa tells him all sorts of things, most are not true but they are enough to make him worry:lmao::lmao:

Hey y'all,

I read through but my brain is not processing. Too many meds & I'm depressed. DH's b-day is tomorrow, A's party is Sunday & I still feel like crapola! I'm sad & mad!

 Aw Sweetie, what a bad deal  Are you feeling any better?

Thanks for the recipe Nancy, I think I'll make it tomorrow. Thanks for the nutrition info too, I skipped over that part.

Can you let me know how it turns out? Buddy brought it to work but he never tried it.

:rotfl:It was like this in our home growing up. My Mom was Canadian French and my Dad was Irish and when my Mom and Dad married this was not a good thing. My Memere and Pepere soke no English, at least none that they admitted to so my Dad did not understand a word of any conversation. He absolutely refused to have my Mom speak French to us so as we grew up I only understood things I probably should not have :rotfl2:Then when I took French in HS I was lost. I knew a lot of words that my Mom just used but none were "legal" in my class ;)

Between an upset stomach and a house gull of boys I would consider pizza!

Dinner plans changed. I have chicken legs ready to pop in teh oven, curried sweet potatoes, corn, beets and maybe a salad. i made a chocolate pudding cake and have a beer bread in the oven I made it with ginger ale becasue Daniel and Erica are coming for dinner and neither one wants alcohol in their food. I hope it comes out okay.

Maria ~ I just had to pop back in and say WOW!!!! Your pieces are amazing. What wonderful work you do young lady. Just WOW!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for being so kind:hug:

Sheryl, here is the link http://s233.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/takeabreather/
Hope your feeling better:hug:

Wendie, feel better. Are you eating with the meds? Maybe that would make
your stomach feel better.

What a tragedy at Fort Hood, those poor families waiting to see if their loved ones are ok.:sad1:

Dinner tonight is spicy teriyaki chicken w/ mushrooms in the crock pot.

Maria, your pictures are amazing. I loved seeing your wedding pics! Just beautiful!

Prayers for the families of Fort Hood.:sad1::flower3:

My house smells wonderful right now! I'm trying a new soup, sweet potato-leek! The recipe started with frying bacon!! :lovestruc I'll let y'all know how it turns out. I'm stilling feeling funky but going stir crazy & all of the laundry is done! Cleaning is too hard, so nothing else to do but cook. :goodvibes

Maria, Your work is amazing!!! :worship::thumbsup2 I can't even pick one for a fav, they are so creative & beautiful! You have my head spinning with ideas, which are dreams for me, cus it will never happen. I've been wanting to redo my coffee table ever since we purchased the new entertainment center. (Right now it's light oak on top & beige legs, country looking.) I was thinking I'd just sand it down & paint it, but now I've got a wine-themed table in my head! Wouldn't that be cool!

Nancy, The guy told me he was spoke Creole French, I can tell you his wasn't very similar to Cajun/Creole French, Bob told me he had a hard time understanding him. I think it was that Caribbean flavor he added. It sounded very nice, just wish I had understood it!

Laurie, You're going to start on your binder already! Man I feel like a slacker! ;):thumbsup2

Maria - I haven't had a lot of time and kinda skimmed through but I agree with the others...your work is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!
