PhotoPass Size Question for Download

When we were in WDW 3 weeks ago we had off course a PhotoPass and as we have only collected 25 pictures and as many of them not that special I only want to download 4 of them and I don’t want to order any prints.

Now my question: I saw (if you choose “download”) you can choose between 3 different sizes. (4”x 6”, 5”x 7” and 8”x 10”)
First I thought if I choose the 8” x 10” I would have a higher resolution but then I saw their comment that all formats will be good for prints up to 16”x20”. And the only difference is that they cut away more from the original picture if you choose 8”x10” instead of 4"x6".

But I have set my own boarders for the pictures that I wish to download. And now I am unsure what size to choose for my downloads.

Any help from you would be much appreciated.

Thank you

i havent done the downloads but last year I ordered prints from disney with borders and they came up smaller than the ones without borders.

also when printing them from the cd myself it was the same , they were smaller than the ones without borders so I would say go for the larger incase they come up smaller like ours

You will need to edit with the borders to the size you are going to print otherwise the border will not work/

For example you will need to set the size to 4x6 prints and save as copy if you are going to print in 4x6.

For plain photos download 4x6 as it gives you the maximum picture.

I am confused by this as well - I have pre-ordered the CD. If I choose three differnt sizes for download and save each of them as a copy, will I get three versons of the same pic at different reslutons/sizes on my CD - if so, should I do this for each of them? Or have I got this totally wrong?

Logic tells me I should at least download the 8x10 to the cd, as the bigger pic would be higher res - but this selection crops off a lot of the photo?

I am also thrown by the 16x20 it says that all images can print too - will all the standard pics on my CD be this size too?

I never even knew you could change the size when I ordered last month.
Just had a read, you are not changing the resolution of the pic you are changing the ratio, unedited pics will be in 6x4 aspect ratio, add borders and they will be added as 7x5 aspect ratio (unless you save as 4x6)
This means its all about what you see in the picture not the quality/size of the file. For example a pic 6x4 might get top of someones head in the shot but could be lost in 7x5. Its not bigger just the ratio/crop is altered.
Thats how I read it.

I can confirm this. I downloaded the first pictures (where I added boarders before) and it is true it's not bigger just the ratio/crop is altered.

Okay, this makes sense now. So basically am I right in thinking that with the photo CD, its a bit pointless creating three versions of each photo in the three different ratios, as this ratio cropping could be done if ever required in photo editing softare anyway couldn't it?

Yes don't see why you can't change with your own editing software.

It only really matters if you adding the borders to your photos. Before I knew about editing the size the were all the default 5x7 size and once printed in 6x4 to fit in an album we lost bits of border and they looked funny.

DH is a photography freak and even he can't edit the pictures so the borders print right!

This time i have saved my favs in different sizes incase we decide to get a larger print done of any of them for a frame
