The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Sheryl - I couldn't do Mickeypath either, Julie on the NOLA thread did mine last time.....notice I have a new ticker??????

THANK YOU JANICE !!!!!!!!!! We're booked at SSR and waitlisted at BCV & BWV!!!!

Haven't caught up with everyone yet, been busy planning!:cool1:

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

The business is something I used to do on the side....Reclaimed furniture themed & decoupaged. I've done a few kitchen chair & stool sets & now I'm doing 2 ice cream chairs for my nieces for Christmas...they will use them as desk chairs. The older niece is distressed cream with famous sentences from great authors (she is in school for her masters in teaching).
Emily's is dance themed.....with lots of floral. Last week I had 2 orders one for a travel themed coffee table so I'm using antique postage stamps from around the word & antique postcards. The other is a nightstand with butterflies.....sage is the backdrop color.

I want to see pictures!!!

Becky, It has been years since we've eaten in Crystal Palace! That might be fun. I've heard Boma's food is really good too! Yeah I think I'm going to nix Mickey's for something else.

Laura, Your opinion on Crystal Palace?

Kathy, I remember you had a rotating trip banner, that was MickeyPath right?

I can't get that to work! Can you help me?

Sheryl, maybe look into Jiko? We had Boma during our F&W trip (same night we met up with you guys in fact!) and it was absolutely awful! I'm hoping it was only a bad night, but I doubt I'll ever get Rick there again. The butternut squash soup was the consistency, color, and taste of butterscotch pudding. The couscous was dried out and lumpy. The ribs were so peppered all you tasted was heat. The carving station guy knocked one of the signs off the butcher block onto the floor- I picked it up and sat it off to the side- he reached out and put it right back on the butcher block next to the meat!:scared1:

Our dinner at Jiko the night before was, on the other hand, very nice. Probably one of the best we've ever had on property. Rick even listed as equal to Artist Point- and that's his absolute favorite.

Well you can tell Buddy that at the moment we are waiting for the farmers to get out of the corn fields so we can run them on the corn stalks. The farmers love it for the free fertilizer and we love it because it really helps with the feed bill. We have land to the North of us with grass and we grain and hay them twice a day. If Doug is late - and believe me they know - you should here the beloring going on. I can hear it in the house. :rotfl2: We don't finish our cows, we take them to the feed lots for that. We butcher our steers. Right now we are getting ready to "rent" our bull or buy one. Our heffers will then be put to pasture till spring. We take them into the hills for the winter. Tell Buddy he can ask questions anytime he wants. I might not alway know the answer but Doug will. ;)

Holy Moly! You are going to be sorry! :lmao:

Hi everyone. I'm still feeling cruddy, but the doctor said that was normal. He also said it was time to get serious and back on the diet. From the time of Daddy's diagnosis to his death I gained 38 pounds! :scared1: So I guess I'm headed back to the gym next week when I can actually breathe and see if I can't get this weight off.

No gym young lady! As Kathy pointed out, you need to be 100% before taxing your body like that. I put on a lot of weight after I lost my Mom. I am a stress eater in addition to just liking to eat so I just exploded. I hope that Hailey gets rid of the Blahs quickly!

Laura I do have good news Angelina got the SBA loan approval yesterday! It's been over a month of waiting on that, now a little more waiting on the banks & lawyers. But it's all good! She's a much happier girl now that the approval came through. :goodvibes

Sheryl- I knew that Angelina had something in the works but I must have missed what it was. can you share her plans?

Have you tried 1900 Park Fare? I really love their breakfast but have heard good things about dinner. The character interaction is supposed to be very good. It's a buffet, but I always enjoyed my food there. TONS better than Chef Mickeys IMO (which I think is gross). Breakfast is Mary Poppins, Alice and Mad Hatter (funny!!), and 2 Pooh characters (sometimes Pooh and Eeyore, sometimes Pooh and Tigger). Dinner is Cindy, Prince, and Stepsisters.

I loved 1900 Park Fare! Breakfast was fun, the characters are fun and the food was very hood. The Mad Hatter was a hit with Kady. She was hooked on Mary Poppins so meeting her was :cloud9:

The dinner was a hoot! The stepsisters are hysterical and Lady Tremaine is the best stepmother and I mean she is MEAN! :rotfl: One of the girls tried to teach Kady to curtsy and fell over, it was the creaky one. W went during Halloween. Kady was Snow White there and one asked for her Prince because she had 7 guys already :rotfl2:

Sheryl, what about Crystal Palace? I have not eaten there but I am pretty sure that Laura and Greg liked it. They have the Pooh characters.

Sheryl- Crystal Palace is fun as well. It is not as noisy as CM and certainly not as chaotic as WCC. Have you considered Garden Grill? WE liked the dinner although I cannot remember if there is a character lunch anymore.

We had dinner out today after the Dr appointment. I had a huge Greek salad with grilled chicken. I really wanted a gyro.

The Dr was a friend of my DBIL's and he was so nice! he told us that the tumors do not need to be removed right now. He wants to keep an eye on them though. He did say that the tests that have been ordered have all been appropriate, that the reason the Dr freaked out was because the way the tumors presented made her think that they had metastasized from somewhere else. That is why they rushed him into the specialists. He wants him back in 8 weeks to see how the anti inflamatory he prescribed is working on the pain. Ladies, we are going to owe Mike our lives, this guy is booked solid and he insisted that Buddy get in in the time frame he specified. The Dr also said that our insurance company rocks! He told us that the tests that were ordered and approved were almost unheard of, he generally needs to fight for the span of study that was done. Now we neeed to find out what is causing the pain and the weakness on Bud's left side but we both feel relieved and grateful. Thanks again for the prayers, I know that they have made the difference. :grouphug:

Nan - I am thrilled for you both, you must be so relieved. I, too, believe in the power of prayer.

Your 1900 Park Fare experience sounds like so much fun! I am thankful the Dr got you in so quickly and that he is confident it's not necessary to run to surgery yet. I sure hope those new meds bring him some relief. I'm sure it's difficult for him to work with that going on.

I made this for dinner, and perhaps I was just hankering for a curry dish tonight but I thought it was really good. Easy and quick, too!

From the latest FN magazine:

Home-Style Shrimp Curry
Recipe courtesy Food Network Magazine

Prep Time: 20 min
Inactive Prep Time: --
Cook Time: 26 min
Level: Easy
Serves: 4 servings

Ingredients
1 cup basmati rice, rinsed
2 teaspoons Madras-style curry powder
Kosher salt
3 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium white onion, quartered
3 cloves garlic
1 2-inch piece ginger, peeled
1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes
1 to 2 serrano chile peppers, halved (remove seeds for less heat)
1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup whole or low-fat plain yogurt
1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Directions
Combine the rice, 1 1/3 cups water, 1 teaspoon curry powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/2 tablespoon oil in a saucepan. Cover and cook, undisturbed, over medium-low heat, about 15 minutes; keep warm. (They didn't say to boil it, but I did it as written and nothing happened so then I cranked the heat up, brought it to a quick simmer, and then let it sit on med-low for a few minutes until it finished)

Meanwhile, chop the onion in a food processor, drain the excess liquid and set the onion aside. Mince the garlic and ginger in the processor and set aside, then puree the tomatoes with 1 cup water.

Heat the remaining 3 tablespoons oil in a Dutch oven or deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until golden, about 12 minutes. Add the garlic-ginger mixture, chiles, 1 teaspoon salt and the remaining 1 teaspoon curry powder and stir-fry until slightly browned, about 3 minutes. Add the tomato puree and simmer until thickened, about 8 minutes. Add the shrimp, cover and cook over medium-low heat until the shrimp are firm, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from the heat, then stir in the yogurt and half the cilantro.

Serve with the rice and garnish with the remaining cilantro.

Greg is going to put a website together for me when he's done his current course. I will take some photos when the next few pieces are done...

:goodvibesCannot wait!

Nan - I am thrilled for you both, you must be so relieved. I, too, believe in the power of prayer.

We needed all of the help we could get. The pain is nowhere as bad as it was, the Dr said that some sort of trauma could have inflamed the nerve and sent pain shooting down his leg. As the inflammation went down the pain decreased.

Hey Guys, Quick check in...I am tired and this computer is acting up...

Maria, Thanks for the offer to help with the computers...I think I just need to get a new laptop. I dropped it a few weeks ago and it has not been the same and yesterday was the worst. This desk top...I have no clue. Andrew downloads so much crap. I would love to see the pics of your work too.

Nancy, So glad that Buddy is continuing to get good results at the dr.

Gretchen, Please take care of yourself. I am sorry that you are so sick.

Kat and Sheryl, so happy for your Mardi Gras trips.

Kat, Andrew is excited and I am getting excited. I think Tom is excited too...he has been so dang busy so I think he is stressing a bit. Thomas smiles when I see the MM march.

Sheryl, I mailed your check today. Thank you!

UGH! Tom just called, Andrew has the TV blasting so I lost my train of thought.

Ellen, I love hearing your farming stories. My brother is a farmer in VT...dairy. I once had a cow named after me and when Andrew was born he was working on a morgan horse farm and name a baby after Andrew. He also worked on a water buffalo farm which Bobby Flay visited for their yogurt. I too got a little weirded out thinking of what happened to Jewelmaker Lauren! :scared1:

Robin, I really need to try to make risotto. Your dinner sounds great.

Lauri, Too funny about your furbaby. Riley always runs to his crate when I call him but he cannot get in since I have it closed. He still has to wear that collar and I do not want him getting stuck.

Laura, I am so glad that you enjoy making Caili's costumes and she is so appreciative. They really are beautiful!

Marilyn, gotta do a TJ run and see if I can get that pancake mix. Enjoy all your games.

Crap, now the cat made me lose my thought! UGH!

Janice, hopefully the weather is not too bad for you. You dont want to be rowing from the library.

Aimee, How are you feeling? Please take pics of your babies in their costumes. I a going to be a bit sad not to have Riley trick or treating with us.

Becky, I really need to get a German food fix. I meant to stop and get some sausage, kraut, etc. and I opted for Chinese food instead. I went to walmart, forgot my wallet, went home and back and did not feel like going to another store then cooking after that.

Glynis, way to go on the Marathon! I hope your Dad goes too; that would be awesome.

Lori, Any more cruise pics? I am really wanting to go on a Disney cruise.

****
I hope I didnt miss too much. I hate not having my laptop...

Love to all! Have a great night~

We just got back from the library. We were about 10 minutes from home when the rain started up again. At least we are home now.

Kathy If when you go to Blue Zoo if you can stuff Mr English in a doggy bag I would be very grateful maybe even forever :worship:

Gretchen Make sure you rest this virus is really rough. You don't really want all of us knocking on your door.pirate:

Maria I hope your business does well.

Sheryl I wish Angelina much luck also

Ok I am off to watch a little tv then to bed.

I don't think I would like your dr very much. To bring up weight & age in the same visit!:mad: I have to say he's a brave man. ;)

I agree with Sheryl on this one! I am usually in a bad enough mood going into my appointment...are there freezers in doctor's offices? ;)

Sheryl -- I am so glad Angelina got the loan. That is great!

Gretchen -- I'm glad Hailey is recovering. I hope she feels like her usual self soon.

Laura, Your opinion on Crystal Palace?

I've only had breakfast there, and we did like it, but that was so long ago. In general, I avoid buffets now, and specifically, I avoid them in restaurants with Liam because of his allergies. I know you are looking for kid-friendly places, but my kids prefer the non-kid places. They love CG, Artist Point and Jiko. Rose and Crown also is one of their favorites for the fish and chips, and the excellent view of Illuminations. The closest they come to kid dining is Coral Reef. They really like that -- although Liam hated ALL the food on the kids menu...and I do mean all the food. They brought him several dishes, and he refused to eat any of them. He was in a bad phase that year though.

Reclaimed furniture themed & decoupaged.

Please post pictures if you can! I would love to see them.

We are expecting tons of water and thunder storms later. Sounds like fun doesn't it. At least it is not snow.

At least it isn't snow! Please don't send it my way. Thank you for the nice compliment on the costume.

Nancy -- I am glad Buddy is doing well.

I think it is good that I have a make-up zumba class tomorrow. I bought my Halloween candy today, and I needed to sample it for quality control. ;) Plus I ate a ginormous amount of kielbasa for dinner. It was really good.

Janice - glad you made it home safe and dry.

Greg is going to put a website together for me when he's done his current course. I will take some photos when the next few pieces are done...

Thats great. The descriptions you gave earlier sounds really pretty.

Sheryl - great news for Angelina! That dinner looks good!

Nancy, I'm so happy that the good news keeps coming for Buddy. And I'm glad you have good connections to great doctors!!

Laura - your kids rock. Seriously, I'm so impressed by them, their activities, the food choices. They must have great parents! Especially you, since Greg is busy keeping the rest of us safe.

Janice, enough with the rain. Is it going to clear for the weekend?

Lauren, are you going to do a character meal with your boys? That would be so cute for photos.:goodvibes

Kat, do I see the start of a "mini" Disney meet?:goodvibes

I will try to find some photos of furniture I've sold in the past & post them.

Dinner was take out, it was ok.

Good Morning~

Now my shoulder is aching me...what the heck? My hand is still pretty bad and now my shoulder. I guess I should go to the dr...maybe when I come back. I will soak in the hot tub when I go.

Sheryl, I missed the news about Angelina...so happy for her!

Maria, we have Cape May and OHana booked for breakfasts...so that should be enough. I also plan on getting T's hair cut on Main St. We are staying part of the week at the Sheraton...it is really nice there. My sister owns there. I may look into that. It is just so hard to trade out DVC for other locations.

Laura, We are trying R&C for the first time this trip. I hope my picky eaters like it. All I know is I want a Welsh Dragon!

Not sure about dinner tonight...got packing and cleaning to do. I invited some people back after Trick or Treating. Not sure why I did that since I am trying to keep the house in order but I have all of Sunday to clean more.

Have a great day all!

shrimp, white bean, arugula ragout...BBL

Hi gang, prep (cleaning, shopping and food) for the Christening was going good but we have a major snag in the day now. My DB called me last night very upset. My DB and DSIL are DD's godparents. They just found out my nephew has a championship game on Sunday. Normally not a big deal, they would come to the baptism and send their son with another parent because it is a youth league. My nephew was recently diagnosed with a heart condition and the Dr has told them no more contact sports after this year. My poor brother feels so guilty and did not want to call me. I totally understand, being a parent comes first. He is so worried what we will think of him for going to the football game. My poor nephew was crying that they were not going to the game. Football was a huge part of my DBs life, and he is very sad his son won't have that in his life in the future. My poor DB cried when he told me this was his last chance to see him play any sports, and how honored he is we chose him as DD's godfather that he feels he is letting my down.

They decided DSIL will come to the Christening and stand up for DD, and another one of my DBs (Luke's godfather) will stand in for my DB. My heart aches for my DB, they have not told DS yet that he can not play sports going forward. It is going to crush him because he is a very competitive and active kid.

Sorry for the long story...today I have some errands to do. I am going to head to Dm's later in the day to help her with the prep she is doing for the party.

WFD- not sure this has been one crazy week.

Thinking of you all and wishing your families well. :flower3:
