Ghosts?!!

I am watching Most Haunted Live on (ironically) LIVING TV.

It got me thinking about ghosts, and naturally at this time of year we hear spooky stories.

I was wondering does anybody have a story of when they believed they saw a ghost? Or do you not believe in them FULLSTOP?

Just thought it might be an interesting topic for this Halloween Time!

The only time that I saw something unusal was when I was a Kid (only 5 or 6). I moved into a new house in the countryside, in a small village. The house used to belong to a man and his mother. He lived there until his mother died a few years prior to selling the house. It was within the first week of moving in that I saw or dreamt about an old woman sitting at the bottom of my bed peeling an orange. She looked like a stereotypical granny, and wasnt scary beacause she had a very kind face with a huge smile.

I told my parents of this when I was on the way to school the next day, they both took the mickey and made out I was only dreaming. (which I was pretty sure of). But a month after the man who used to live in the house came to say hello and showed us old pictures of the house. One of the photos was taken in my room, and to my suprise there was the very same woman I had dreamt about sitting in a chair where my bed is now. She was smiling in the same way, she didnt have an orange in her hands though (so I still dont know the significance of that). But both my parents picked up on it too. And echoed my description of the old women in my dreams.

:confused3 I dont know what to make of it to this day! I really dont believe in Ghosts, BUT I cant explain what I saw or dreamt? Maybe it is pure coincidence.

Who knows?

Whats your stories?

In the cold light of day I really don't believe in ghosts but at night time it's a different story.

As a child we lived in a 150 year old cottage and I'd never go upstairs on my own it was just too creepy. Later as an adult my mother told me that my nan (who lived with us) had seen her sister in her bedroom in that house. Her sister had died 50 years before a a young child.

Now a days I could never live in a house that is older than I am. Which is strange as my mum lives in a fairly modern house now and although my great uncle and my nan died there it doesn't spook me at all.

When my father died of a heart attack, at the same time, my sister who was on a farm in New Zealand heard my youngest neice who was 1 at the time giggling and talking to someone.
She went into the bedroom and saw my father, who said to her, "tell your mum I'm sorry" before dissapearing.
She knew nothing about what had just happened.

Yikes, that's crazy. There are far too many stories like this which make me think that there must be ghosts or an afterlife of some kind.

What do you think about what your sister said?

I was only 15 at the time and it wigged me out, but since then other episodes have happened which make it seem "normal"

When I was a young child, about 4, I remember waking up one morning, as I looked at my bedroom door which was open there was a black gloved hand. I thought we had burglars and screamed for my Mam. She came and the hand disappeared.

Years later my Mam told me that in the same house she had woken up in the middle of the night to find an elderly man with a big old fashioned watch on watching her, she blinked and he vanished. All round the house she could here the ticking of a clock.

Shortly afterwards we moved and on speaking to our old neighbour, the neighbour commented on how much the woman who moved into that house screamed. The previous occupant to us was an elderly man who had died in the house.

I can imagine it did. Interesting how you say it seems normal to you, it's funny how some of us see things while others don't.

That's a rather chilling tale. I wonder what the old man wanted.

I have a heck of a lot of stories around the paranormal that I could share, but I hope y'all won't take offence that I don't want to share them all....

When my Dad passed four years ago, we were all at home tucked up in bed. It was around 2am. My Mum didn't want to ring my Granddad (My Dads Dad) as he was around 83 at the time and she didn't want to scare him by making the phone ring in the middle of the night. So she rang the next morning and my Granddad said: "So it was you that did something with my phone at two this morning?" and she said: "No, I deliberately waited to contact you. Why?" Apparantly at the time my Dad died, my Granddads mobile phone went beserk- Lights flashing, vibrating (He didn't even know how to put the vibrate setting on!) and all kinds, but there was no incoming call or message. It just went mad. We see that as being a bit spooky.

Later that evening, my Mum and me were sat in living room. There were lots of bouquets of flowers that had been delievered to us with sympathies. One contained loads of lillies that were yet to bloom. We were utterly shocked when the heads began to 'jump' off the lillies. Not dropping to the ground, literally firing across the room. One by one... About 14 flowers in total, and all the heads shot straight across the floor.

This is one I never ever told my Mum about as she was distraught when my Dad died and somehow I thought this would upset her more. I got a voicemail from my Mum one day at school (Shortly after my Dads funeral) and in the background, clear as day, I heard my Dad's voice say 'Robyn'. At first I thought I was hearing things, so listened a few more times. I then passed the phone to 8 or 9 different people (I didn't tell them what to listen for). The ones that knew my Dad freaked out and said they could hear his voice saying my name. Those who didn't know him said they could definately hear a mans voice saying my name. My Mum was alone when she left the message.

Now, I'll share some that don't involve my Dad (Even though there are so many more!)...

When I was very young, a friend of mine insisted there was a ghost in her house. Naturally, I didn't believe her. Even though her house was a big old rusted place with loads of history, I refused to believe in a ghost. She said it was a girl about our age who'd died of illness, which again, I wouldn't believe. One day in the summer we were all in the garden (Me, her, her brother, her Dad, the dog, and three or four other kids from our street). It was a really hot day, very still, with no breeze. Her windows fastened on big old fashioned hook latch kind of things (I hope you know the ones I mean!) that were really rusty, and it was a struggle to get the window open or closed most days. Her Dad had gone round the house that morning and forced them all open onto the big rusty latches to air the house. We were all playing games, and Kim (My friend) mentioned the ghost and said she would have liked to play. Someone else said: "Theres no such thing as a ghost! Theres no Isabelle here." (I say Isabelle because thats the name Kim used for the ghost...). We all then freaked out when the big heavy metal latch suddenly lifted in the air and something slammed (And I mean slammed!) the window shut! We ran inside to check and there was no-one there at all, and no wind or breeze to blow the window shut. Very creepy! I started believing in the ghost after that. She used to move toys round and things like that, nothing too severe. Her Dad still lives in that house and little bits and bobs still happen occasionally, but not so much since all the toys and childlike things have left the house.

Another one is a bit more recent. Shortly after our engagement, we'd gone to Robert's parents for the weekend. Now, I've never liked Robert's bedroom. His parents live a big old terraced house and his room is the Attic. For some reason, it just creeps the hell out of me. In the daylight, not so much, but at night I hate it. In the dark when we've gone to bed, I would swear I'd seen faint outlines moving around the room, but I can't say for definate as I obviously don't have my glasses on when I'm trying to sleep! Theres a couple of little rooms that lead off the attic, and the doors from them sometimes slam open (One came off the hinges once, at which point I launched down the stairs and refused to come back up.) but again I could attribute that to the breeze. However, on this particular occasion I was not a happy chappy at all! Smoking is strictly banned in Robert's house, and the few visitors who do smoke are made to do so at the end of the driveway. We were upstairs in the attic, and all of a sudden I was hit by a VERY strong smell of cigarette smoke. And I mean really strong. Robert noticed my nose wrinkle and asked what was up. He couldn't smell it at all. It was driving me mad. However, his auntie and uncle were visiting, and his auntie smokes. I went downstairs to see if she was outside smoking. Nope. I popped my head round the living room and asked if she'd been out for one. Nope. I marched back upstairs and was this time hit by the smell on the landing. It seemed to follow me back up the stairs, and wherever I moved. Then it got cold in front of me. That sounds weird, but thats what it was. Just in front of me. I turned round, and it was cold in front of me again. And I could still smell the smoke. I was getting really upset now as I naturally thought I was loosing my marbles!! Robert was adament there was no smell of smoke, which is why I was getting so upset! Then I remembered. Robert was desperately close to his Nanan (Which I believe is a Yorkshire word for Nana as I've never heard it anywhere else) as a child. He was her favourite grandchild by a long shot and she adored him. She passed away when Robert was only 11. She was also a very heavy smoker. Robert's Mum has often said she wouldn't be surprised if she followed him in the spirit world as she was crazy about him, and she often claims that she reckons she 'haunts' the attic a lot of the time because thats where Robert is (Actually, when Robert moved out, his Mum and Dad reported a lot of strange bangs and thumps for a few weeks afterwards!!). And indeed, a medium friend of the family who had never met Robert before picked up on her presence on a seperate occasion stating that she could see a "Grandmother figure." Before quickly saying: "I'm being informed she's a Nan figure? A nanny figure? Something that sounds like Nan but isn't."...! So I wondered if it was her following me around the attic. I jokingly said: "I wonder if your Nanan thinks I'm not good enough to marry you!" and all of a sudden, the atmosphere in the room changed. It suddenly felt lighter (If that makes any sense at all!) and the smell of cigarette smoke got lighter. Then I felt the cold kind of all around me, almost like a hug?! Robert said: "Don't be daft, she'd have loved you. She'd have thought you were a lovely wife to be." and with that, the smell completely vanished, as did the cold. Robert still maintains I was out of my tree that night, but I would swear on my life that it happened. Since then I've still felt weird feelings about the attic, but I'm not really scared of them anymore. I often think it's his Nanan following her favourite Grandson and seeing what he's up to!

I'm so sorry if these all sound nuts, but I promise that they did happen and I've only told you all what I know!

They don't sound nuts Bob, thanks for sharing. It seems you've had some unusual experiences, especially the ones concerning your dad. While upsetting, I hope that these happenings have also given you some comfort in the aftermath of your dad's passing. Likewise with Obi.

I think I attract them! I've had quite a few brushes with the paranormal.... Not helped by the fact my Mum knows two mediums, who both some bizarre reason love me!

The experiences do help with greif. I'm often reluctant to share them incase people think I've created them from my own mind to help ease the pain. I honestly don't do that. I take things as they happen.

I realised one major story I omitted from my earlier post that is still ongoing. My Dad built our conservatory. When he was diagnosed as terminal, he went mad trying to finish it before he passed. He got most of it done, just a few bits had to be finished by someone else. However, when it steams up in the cold, you can clearly see my Dads handprints on the panes of glass. They're definately his hands (He had hands like bear paws!). We've washed both sides of the windows several times (and had the windowcleaner in!), and yet they still come back. The next time it happens, if I remember, I'll take a picture to show you all. :goodvibes I quite like having the handprints there... It's a nice reminder...

Wow these are some very interesting happenings! I love hearing about these kind of stories. It makes ya think??

Maybe they like you because you're more receptive than other people? While I've never seen anything paranormal, I often 'feel' things (well, I think I do).

What a lovely reminder of your dad. :goodvibes

I saw a ghost once, I was 17 at the time and I saw my best friend the day after he died. A group of us were very close friends, David was the eldest of the group and had gone to university the previous year. We were still close to him as his brother was also part of our group as he was the same age as us. Anyway my friend tragically died in a fire at his halls of residence. The evening of the fire the rest of us had been out to church youth club like we always did on a Friday followed by our usual drinks at the cricket club next door. I was the only one in our group with a car so I always drove and dropped all my friends off afterwards. When we got to my friend Stevens house we noticed a police car parked near his house, but we didn't really think much of it.

The next day I had gone into the city for orchestra rehearsal at the college of music like I did every Saturday morning. When I finished rehearsal I went out to find 2 of my friends waiting for me, they had come to tell me that David had died. They wanted to meet me from rehearsal as by now it was on the front page of the newspaper and they didn't want me seeing that on the way back to the train station on the way home. So the three of us decided it was probably best for all of our group of friends to be together that afternoon. So we caught the train home, got my car and drove to meet the rest of our friends. Once we had picked the last person up and we were all sat in my car we looked over at the window of the house where the last person we had picked up lived. It was then all 5 of us saw the same thing, our friend David was in the window, he waved to us, showed the OK sign with his fingers, waved again and then bent down and was gone. All 5 of us saw the same thing, we even all described the same top that he was wearing. I am sure he just wanted us to know he was OK.

My whole family believe in ghost and anything spiritual. We've had many things happen and a few old Polaroid pictures with ghosts. I've had one experience whilst in bed but I don't like to talk about it as it isn't appropriate and still upsets me it happened. Keep up with the good stories and maybe some pics? Ox

reading this thread sent a shiver up my spine, it's amazing how many people have experiences to share. I never used to believe in ghosts but I do now.

Before I believed, I had experienced a few strange things which I couldn't explain but not long after my now dh and I became engaged we started to experience some strange things together.

We decided to move house and when we cleared out our old home we got rid of a lot of things which had belonged to dh's mum who had died. DH (Db at the time) had her old school books which we decided we had to get rid off so I decided to submerge them in the bath with loads of domestos to bleach the writing and turn them to mush, anyhow when I went to check on them about 20 minutes later the water had all drained away and the books were perfectly dry and had not been marked at all from the water or the bleach.

When we moved we started to experience 'activity' in our house which was just weird, it was silly things like the lights turning themselves on and off or the tv, shadows in the doorway or the linen basket emptying itself or when we went to bed(we live in a three storey town house and our bedroom is on the middle floor) we would hear footsteps above us and a bedroom door opening and closing when there was no-one upstairs. I was really spooked out but the worst episode had to be when I got home on a really hot day and as I opened the front door a rush of cold air came towards me, I totally freaked, turned and ran to my car and before I put my key in the ignition my engine started, I was so scared I rang dh(db) and made him come home from work.

Anyhow to cut a long story short I had a raiki session and after my session the girl who did it, contacted me and told me that she didn't want to alarm me but explained that I had a spirit with me. I talked her through what was happening at home and how scared I was and although she tried to reassure me she put me in touch with someone who came out and cleansed the house with crystals. After that things settled down although we would still sense someone behind us or smell tweed perfume (very random) but I wasn't scared.

When dd arrived we experienced different things, dh was terrified one night as he walked into our bedroom and although I was asleep in bed and dd was in her cot he was adamant that someone was holding dd in the corner of the room. As dd has got older she seems to experience things which we can't explain, it is the type of thing that you hear a lot about ... little ones talking to someone or pointing and smiling when no-one is there but as dd is getting older, she is now 3 she talks to us about Mary who comes to see her when she's in bed and how she tucks her in and gives her a good night kiss. Dh's mum was called Mary although she died a long time before I met my dh. We have no photos of dh's mum on display and we don't talk about her as dh really struggles with his grief, but when we got a photo album out we were showing dd pictures and she pointed to one of my dh's mum and said there's Mary, we couldn't explain how she knew that. Quite often if dd is playing she'll stop and tell us that Mary is sitting watching her or she's sat next to her in the back of the car, it's just strange and we can't explain it.

Wow these stories are really interesting i am fasinated by things like this. i have never seen any thing myself but in a totally different league when we lost our cat both dh and myself felt some thing brush the back of our legs while sitting on the sofa we knew it was Ginger bless him.

It's situations like this, when everyone saw the same thing, that I don't understand why people are so skeptical. It's nice that your friend wanted you to know he was ok. :goodvibes

You've had some very interesting experiences, particularly one you described about your DH's mum. Isn't it lovely that your DD's grandmother can spend some time with her, even after her passing.

I've had one spooky experience, my nan used to smoke like a trooper and some nights when im laying in bed i get really strong wifts of cigerette smoke (i dont smoke), one night it actually made me gag.

I told my mum and she said it was just nan checking up on me. It was very nice of her but did an half freak me out :lmao:

All really interesting stories :D I have two

When my Grampy first passed away his cup he always used when he came to us at my mum and dads house would always fly out the cupboard when my gran or aunty would come round he also would always walk along the path way to the front door where as every one else walks across the drive and some times we would al swear we would see some one walk past that window

This year my gran died my gran was very ill and me and DF had just bought our own flat on the 2nd floor my gran was too ill to ever come round but the night she died I had a dream her and my grampy came round and were walking through the hall way but in the dark like they were there whilst we were asleep. Also the night she died I was woken from this dream what felt like some one lighty touching my shoulder to roll me over to see my phone was a light I sleep through every thing and my phone was on silent upside down so i couldnt even see it was ringing but some thing or some one was telling me to look at my phone and my mum was rining me to tell me my gran had died and I was the only one that wasnt there so i feel like it was her wanting me to know
