Hi Everyone
Just a quick question, we are going to Yacht Club for Xmas this year, first time over the actual day.:banana: Wanted to bring a few treats to put in the kids stockings from the UK...ie Large bars of Cadbury's Chocolate, dry roasted peanuts. Am I allowed to take them into the US . I know on the plane they say you have to dispose of all food, \i assumed this would be dairy, sandwiches, fruit etc...does anyone know if these would be included??? What about if they were in the hold luggage? Just wanted to bring a bit of home from home for xmas...Is this allowed ?:confused3
TIA:goodvibes

Hi

We always spend Xmas in Florida and I always bring chocolate from home and have never had any problems.:confused3

Notsure about the nuts as we have never taken any but you can buy nuts from any of the USA supermarkets (Walmats, Publix etc):worship::worship:

Hope this helps a little

See you over there!!!!:banana::banana:

I would be careful of peanuts as they are classified differently to other nuts and are not actually a "nut". Chocolate bars etc should not be a problem as long as they are sealed in original packaging and in your hold luggage.

You may not take any "open" food or fresh produce from the plane and this is where the confusion is. You can use the CBP website - they do keep it fairly up to date and will advise you if you are concerned. I took dry cereal for my daughter who has special dietary needs due to allergies and they said it was fine but recommended it be packed in the hold baggage. I am usually inclined to check anyway, as it really isn't worth the hassle of risking your cases being opened to confiscate stuff. The hassles and delays (and having to buy new padlocks for the luggage) is really not what anyone needs after a 9+ hour flight.

we have taken chocolate in our hand luggage before with no problem

Regarding them going through your cases, they ca do this anyway, we often have missing padlocks from our cases and the TSA letter inside to say they have searched them. they recommend you dont lock your cases going to the usa or using tsa approved locks as they can then open these and lock them back up

I had a bag of dried mixed fruit and nut that I bought in M&S at Gatwick.

It was in my hand luggage and I checked I was ok to have take this off the plane and the VA Staff said it was fine.
