So annoyed with myself

Booked my flights online a while ago and for some reason i decided to check something this evening. Logged on and noticed that my mums name was incorrect!

Instead of Alison Foster it was Aliison Foster - obviously just a typo on my part but it took me a 45minute phone call to the call centre in India and cost me £30 to sort out!

How annoying. I'm always terrified of making mistakes like that - I'm afraid I'll turn up at the airport and one of our names will be wrong and we won't be able to fly.
At leats you spotted it and sorted it out, even if it cost £30 :goodvibes

This always really annoys me - it's clearly just a straightforward typo, and it must have taken Virgin about a second to correct. It isn't as though they are having to go to the expense of re-issuing paper tickets. How can they possible justify £30? At least you have it sorted though :goodvibes

Oh god £30 what a nightmare!

We had a good one with Continental 2 of my DS have the same initals all have to have an S!!! and when we went to check in at the airport they only had 1 KS not 2!! the women said i must have made a mistake! well i had printed off everything so they could see i had booked for 2 took ages to sort out!! Funny now but not at the time!!

S xx:flower3:

:headache: what a nightmare !! its naughty to charge for it

Its clearly identified here:

"For security reasons it is absolutely essential that the name on your booking, ticket and passport are exactly the same.

If not, you will be unable to board the flight. This also applies to marriage or maiden names; we can no longer allow passengers to travel by accepting marriage certificates or decree absolutes in conjunction with a passport.

Your booking and ticket must reflect your first and last names only. Middle names are not required.

If a mistake has been made, you can amend the name on your booking and ticket to reflect the correct spelling in your passport, up to 2 hours before the flight is due to depart. However you cannot transfer the ticket to another person.

To amend the name on your ticket please contact your travel agent, tour operator or our contact centre. There will be a charge of £30 to amend each name."

Its not as easy as "pushing a button" and why do people think that computer systems/databases, internet connections, links to security services fixed costs, staffing costs etc etc are free?

I do appreciate the cost of staff, internet etc (believe me working in IT im often grumbling about the same things myself :) ) but £30 is a little excessive and is not likely to be the true cost of actually amending it.

Its funny really because last time i booked my flights over the phone they kept telling me its better to do it online as its so much quicker and easier to manage if you have a problem. Ive booked most of my flights online but i wont again now - just incase.

I agree - if you make an ADR at WDW for example you don't get charged £30 to call them up and change it - they still have systems/IT staff/CMs manning the phones etc., but it's all part of the service.
I think it's because it's after-sales in this case - they already have your money so if you want to change anything they've got you. If it's pre-sales and you want to change something, they'll bend over backwards to accommodate you for free despite the extra cost.

When we went in Feb, my husbands name was on the e-ticket as Nicholson instead of Nicholas. I phoned Kenwood Travel who I'd booked with and they amended it on their screen as I spoke to them and waited for me to receive the new e-mail. It was their error so they advised virgin and it didn't cost me anything.

i haven't flown in a year, but there is almost always a mistake in my name on at least one of my flight tickets...
an extra letter, an incorrect letter, a dropped hyphen....something different every time...
in fact my passports don't even match....
i have two passports, and my name is spelled differently on the different passports....(so is my daughter's name for that matter)...
so my flight ticket will match one or the other, but not both.....obviously...

i find it hard to believe they would actually keep you off the plane for spelling it aliison instead of alison...
but i guess i'll find out...
