Booking seats on BA

Well, bit the bullet and phoned up today to pay to pre-allocate our seats for our flight in a couple of weeks. It was £20 per person per flight, so we did it just for the outbound. In the end, I figured £80 was worth it to avoid the last minute panic of us being split across the plane - I just had visions of us traipsing up and down with a two year old deciding whether to sit with Mummy or Daddy. On the upside, we got 3 seats in row 18, so should beat the worst of the queues at immigration.

It seems a lot of people are taking advantage (or is that the other way around?!) as it took me over 30 minutes to have my call answered, and the lady I dealt with said that they had been inundated with similar bookings all morning (today was the first day you can book). Anyone who has booked a flight already needs to call them, all new bookings can take the option at the time of booking.

Are these seats now GUARANTEED for you? If so, I think it's quite a good service. I know that lots of people are furious at the price, and I do think £20 each way is a bit steep, but at least you can rest easy that the seats are definitely yours. That's why I hate about Virgin Atlantic -- all you get is a measly "request" and it's frequently changed. I'd be happier to pay if it meant we could be sure of our seats.

Yes the seats are guaranteed unless there is a technical issue when they can move you and you can get a refund if they can't seat you somewhere you are happy with.

I also phoned yesterday and booked our seats for our outward flight. I will probably book the return ones but will have to see how the budget goes whether I can justify it!

Yes, just to agree with Ann, it's about as certain as they can be. They read a spiel about your chosen seats are now confirmed, but they reserve the right to change them even after boarding in the event of technical issues etc - unsurprising that they have to cover themselves I suppose. But yes, it was confirmed if they have to move you and you are unhappy with your re-allocation, you can apply for a refund.
