Post Your Wedding Cake

Lurkyloo thank you. As much as I would love to keep the top layer, I doubt we would be able to bring it back with us to the UK, not to mention I LOVE cake!

We are going to check out the GF bakery next year to have a look at the different designs and cake toppers. Do they do not edible castle cake toppers? Not sure if I want a chocolate one.

The bakery doesn't offer plastic versions of the chocolate toppers, but you can certainly bring your own topper to use. Also, your Disney Florist rep. may have a selection of toppers among all the other accessorites they have on display at Franck's.

Just to warn you - the GF bakery does not have a storefront, so you won't be able to go visit it. There are usually a few cakes on display in Franck's, but the best way to see the bakery's past work is to use the CD of images you can get from your planner (all of which are posted on the first few pages of this thread). While there are a few styles they do a lot, these are by no means the only ones they can do. So you shouldn't feel constrained by what you see on the disc - the bakery can work from a photo or a sketch to create just about any design you dream up. :thumbsup2

Here is our cake! The flavors were carrot cake, strawberry shortcake, and marble cake with raspberry and chocolate mousse. My inspiration was a cake I had seen in Martha Stewart Weddings, and our baker (Peace of Cake, in Stevensville, Maryland) customized the detail to match designs I had created in our invitations.

That's a beautiful cake!!!

:rotfl: Anytime... I just want other people to have an easier time of it than I did! :thumbsup2

Oh, and it should be noted that to get 50 slices outta the Escape cakes you'd need to bust into the top "anniversary" layer, and cut pretty small pieces. :cutie:

Speaking of the top anniversary layer, was there anyone who did take it home with them?

We did take our anniversary layer home actually... of course my husband proceeded to eat it the next two days after we were home but its all good!! It tasted a bit dry just from the week that it sat but he ate it anyways! :goodvibes We had it wrapped in several layers of saran wrap then tin foil then saran wrap again.

Thanks my DF really wanted to know this, prob so he could eat the cake the next week too. :rotfl: Did you guys fly home?

If you're having an Escape wedding with an added-on dinner 'reception' at an on-site restaurant (WP to Narcoossee's for us, we hope) can the cake cutting ceremony be performed at your dinner? Will they hold/transport the cake for you? It just seems silly to me to have the ceremony, cut the cake, have it boxed up, and THEN go to dinner.

I was told you can have it boxed up and you can do the cake cutting somewhee else, but I don't know all the details on that.

This is possible...for a fee. I am sure Carrie will be along soon to tell you how much as we did not do this, I don't know the cost.

You don't have to cut the cake at the ceremony site - they will box it up for you to take with you to dinner while you do the toasts. They will not hold the cake for you, and lately it seems like they won't even transport it for a fee. Back in the day, brides were paying $75 or so to have it moved to their dinner location. Now they seem to be told they have to arrange to transport it themselves, but, hey, it's free!

If you have a private reception arranged with DFTW as an add on to the Escape package, you can have the cake/champagne set up at that, right?

Bloves- I think we still may cut the cake and box it then send it over, but only in an attempt to cut down on the amount of time we need our photog, we are not having them take pics at the dinner..but we do want the cake cutting :goodvibes

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! At first I was disappointed but the more I think about it, maybe we should just go ahead and do cake right after the ceremony. I forgot to take into account the gap between the ceremony and dinner which will be used for photos of DF and I. And of course, cake cutting pictures are important but as someone else mentioned, I doubt I'll have time with our photographer at dinner itself.

I guess post-cutting I'll just have to ask a family member to run off and immediately get the box containing our top layer into a fridge?

Hiya,

This is what we are doing. We are getting married at the Boardwalk, having photos taken there and then private reception at Sago Cay at the GF. We are having the champagne and cake ceremony over there rather than having to transport the cake around.

The only problem we have is that we are going over to POR from the GF for some photos and I'm a bit worried about the cake melting in the car before we get back to the Boardwalk!

Does anyone know if you can have "and they lived happily ever after" added to an escape cake and if it would cost extra?
