birthday trip report...now finished!

One of my favorite things about your thread is watching the title change! :upsidedow

I hope E is feeling better, I hate it when my kids are sick. I have one home now with a sinus infection and he is frustrated with missing Jr. High. He can go back tomorrow, but our school is being extra cautious about kids being sick and swine flu and possibly spreading infection, so, we have a Dr.'s note and he will just carry that around with him until he has been on medication for a few days.

I can understand the school's cautious protocol since there have been some swine flu cases at school - it's just hard for Jeff, since he hates to make up classes. Kinda makes me wonder why we decided to do a trip NOT on a school holiday??? OH yeah, we were avoiding the crowds. :crowded:

Echinacea, orange juice??? I would suggest chicken noodle soup - but, how about tofu noodle soup??? For days like yours TV is a good thing. Relaxing, and he can lay down and rest while watching. Good luck!

There are some great vegetable broths out there too that would work. Nothing like homemade noodle soup to make you feel better.

Hi all!

There was significant improvement yesterday. It really made me happy. Today he's a bit snorfly again, but feeling and looking better. I enforced calm-time yesterday, and i'm doing it again today. Usually I let him go with his feelings for activity (he's a very active kid, even while watching TV, always has been), but I think he was hurting himself by self-regulating. I'm keeping him calm today, too.

I have definite hope that he'll be healed up for the flight.

I feel awful, though, that he's missed so many classes at the Y. I should probably just call them and withdraw him from them. They end the week we get back and he'd already miss the Monday swim, then with the Star Wars he'll miss the last swim class of the session, leaving only gymnastics, but unless he goes this Thursday he'll have missed nearly half of them anyway....

So today I should make our transportation reservation. And I'm stuck. Price of car rental never came down enough, so I want to do Grayline through GAT (discount!). But. I'm stuck b/c I don't want to pull up to the GCH on a bus.

Stupid stupid stupid....sigh.

And I'm thinking of moving our Minnie's breakfast, too. Also need to check GAT's price to compare it to normal price. See if a voucher is a better idea.

All of the last minute things can be a real pain! :headache: Especially when you have a sickly kidlet and want to help them get better as fast as possible. For me, that is a lot of time spent with them, because if I am resting, that helps them rest. And then my kids do a lot of sleeping on me when they are sick. Well, only my 5 yr. old does anymore. :( The rest of them are to "big" to need to lay around on me. But, they never seem to get to old to need their mommy, even when they are grown up.

Glad to hear he is doing better and hope you are too. Good luck with all of the rest of your planning. How about a taxi to the GCH? Instead of the bus, oh wait, never mind, then you have to bring a carseat.

Never ever thought he'd get to a place where I could actually tell him to lie down on the couch and he'd do it...willful little thing, he's always been. And my attempted "look of death" doesn't work on him, he seems to be immune to it. Very odd, it worked well when my mom did it to us! So glad he listens now.

I'm really bad at making soups...I mean, REALLY bad. I'm not a bad cook overall, and a pretty good baker, but soups just elude me. And soups kinda scare him...I think he's not sure what might be in there (sharks, perhaps? miniature giant squid?) and doesn't want to take his chances.

Nope, you never outgrow wanting your mommy when you're sick. Sigh.

Since we're coming in from LAX, a taxi is right out. :)

I'm having some stupid snob issues in my head, which is ridiculous as we're not snobby. And I don't, personally, think the GCH is such a fine resort. I'm just being silly.

Though I am annoyed at the idea of stopping at DLH before getting to GCH. Not so annoyed that I want to carry everything from the DLH over to the Grand, though.

I think we will be taking the stroller. I was heavily considering not bringing it at all, but I'm sure he'll tire out a bit easier from all of this, so we'll be sure to bring it.

Grr, I upgraded my Firefox browser to the current one, and I just HATE it. It looks wrong, feels wrong, doesn't do what it used to, and I changed some settings and now I need to remember where to set them back, b/c the settings I changed are bugging me. Grr.

Loch Ness Monster? Missing Link from Monsters vs. Aliens? :lmao:

I used to be very bad at soups and didn't like them very much, but after being married to a soup loving, Chinese soup kinda guy, I have learned to make them and also to like them. But, it took me a long time. I still don't like non-chinese soups much. :confused3

My kids really like Chinese noodle soup, with the noodles and broth - don't make them eat the veggies. But, at least they eat the noodles and broth.

Do you like Kim Chee? I know it's a weird question, but I was just wondering......

I like kimchee sometimes. And sometimes not. And I think the times I don't are when the kimchee has been prepared with sardine goop.

Sometimes when I'm sick, and I can convince myself to eat it, eating some kimchi helps me get better FAST. Robert also has a bean sprout soup that's spicy and WOW does that help.

On whatever day that I was crazy-sick, Robert got me a vegetarian soup...it has wontons that they make by hand, and with all veggies, but they come separately, and I just wanted the broth. It was good, but he put it in my coffee mug (my disney one) and now my coffee keeps tasting like soup. Urgh.

OK now I'm starting to talk myself out of Minnie's, and I'm annoyed at the bus because we land at 9:40 but the bus comes every hour, so we'll just miss the 9:30, and we'll have to wait until the 10:30. Not sure I'm up for celebrity watching! :)

I've gotten sick WAY too many times the last few years. I forget about it in between, but it's starting to really come to my attention how often I get sick.

This is no good. Gotta figure this out.

E's wearing his dreadlocks, and is acting out At World's End while we watch it. :) Calmly.

The inner vision of a red head with dreadlocks is too good. I am glad to hear that he is calmly watching the movie.

Well glad E is better and hope you're getting enough rest to get you well too. Soups are always a winner in our household - love the stuff the local Safeway makes up fresh (we're lazy that way and don't make our own).

Kimchee should do good for clearing out the sinuses at the very least. Burn that bug out! ;)

I'm a total novice at traveling from LAX (we've always driven down before). We're doing the ME bus thing and our flight is supposed to land at 9am. Do you think we'd have time to make it to the 9:30am bus?

I'm assuming we have to go to baggage claim and get our bags down to the bus and I'm thinking we won't make it and will be stuck there until 10:30am too

Good luck with the reservations and continued travel conondrums :thumbsup2

Well, I could recommend a great limo. $85 LAX to The Grand. Not bad really. Maybe you deserve a little splurge:)

I wonder some times if they have a statistic on how many times the average guest changes the PS. I know I usually change each one at least once and usually 2 or 3 times:)

Glad to hear of your improvement in health:cool1:

Looks like we'll be able to make that plane. He's doing very very well today. That reminds me, I need to get the round of vitamin C etc going...trying to perk myself up with an Emergen-C and a dropper of echinacea...

Now that I have handy dandy transfer pictures (thanks!), I need to figure out light vs dark transfers, and either find some shirts or run to Michaels, etc, for the iron on stuff and shirts. busy busy.

Oh... I am so excited for you!! I'm glad to hear that you and E are doing better. I'm sure your travel plans will work out nicely. I can't wait to see the pics when you come back!

You must be so excited... only three days left!

In the moments I allow myself to think about "we're actually going!", I vacillate between "omg we're going!" and "augh, I have to get us ready....".

I'm making a list or four *right now*.

Oh, and reading your trip report.

I wonder if Space Mtn Ghost Galaxy is allowing Rider Switch with kids that are tall enough, but not mature enough to deal with the extra frightening images....could make quite the difference in our mornings!

Just switched Minnie's to Sunday, and now we'll do a b'day dinner at Cafe Orleans. :goodvibes

I realized that Monday is the PERFECT day to open up DCA, but I had us over at Minnie's at 10! Even if I moved us to the earliest seating (which would have been 7:40) we'd have had to book over to DCA to get there for opening. Plus, being in DL already and needing to go to DCA without riding anything at DL might not work for, oh, various elements of my family. :upsidedow

So Monday will see us bright and early at DCA; I might even spend some early early time at Sephora, if they are still offering that Resort Guest makeover thingie (pay for a giftcard, get a makeover for "free"). Of course...having a makeover on the day we'll be all over Grizzly is, well, not the brightest idea ever, but oh well. :rotfl:

Solid day on Monday to enjoy DCA, then a dinner at 6 in NOS, and perhaps we'll see Fantasmic. I know, what???? We didn't, so much, enjoy it before. But DS heard about it, and says he'd like to see the dragon. So, I'll read up on the light tower trick, and maybe we'll be able to see it.

They might allow a switch. I don't see why not. I'm sure if you explain it to the CM they would be cool with it. I'm sure E will be ready soon. He seems like such a bright little guy. I can sympathize though. When I was his age, I made it very difficult for my parents to enjoy a disney park, since there was so much I was terrified of.

Good choice for a B-day dinner. I love Cafe Orleans, and I was thinking of doing it for a b-day meal as well when I go in Jan.

It is probably way too late for E, but when we where there in Sept, we walked over to the the second light tower as the fireworks were playing and grabbed an amazing spot (dead center, front row) for the 10:30 show of F!. I thought this might help.

Since you were just there, and rode SMGG a few times, when the line was long was it coming out of the ramp? The biggest problem with Space for us has been that E won't even go up that ramp. So if the CMs were down further b/c the line was crazy, it's more possible.

That pesky bit about having to show the kid for kid swap you know. :)

Ugh! The catch-22 that is kids! I bites the dust HOPING for a long line. But at least you'll get to go at all, right? I'm SO glad that everyone is feeling better. I was keeping my fingers crossed. I would have been heart broken for you had you been SO close to going, but then not able.

Well, I could recommend a great limo. $85 LAX to The Grand. Not bad really. Maybe you deserve a little splurge:)

Wow! I've been researching limo rides. They're expensive. This isn't bad! What company is this through?

Yeah... I do understand. The line only made it down to the bottom of the ramp on the first night I was there. Keep in mind that was opening night. The rest of the time the line was worse than a normal space mountain, but not down the ramp. There are 2 CM's up by the entrance to the fastpasses and the queues though.
