The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Nan - I'm so sorry your Angel is sick. I'll be praying that she gets well soon and also that you get good results on Buddy's MRI.

$150 for cut and color???????:scared1: My hairdresser charges $65.

What a dreary day !!!! DH started painting Luke's new bedroom today, so I went out with the kids to run errands. My parents offered to keep Luke with them so I could run around easier. I was so grateful because it was hard enough getting Emma in and out in the rain.

WFD- Chicken cutlets with pasta.

----------------

Nancy- sending prayerd for Buddy's MRI review.

Maria- why were you posting at 1am last night?? Are you still having insomnia? Bread pudding sound yummy!!! I love it, DH not so much. Just like I love grapenut pudding...darn guy lives for chocolate cake, not me.

Marilyn, pumpkin cookies sound great to me. Recipe please.

Gretchen, so exciting building a new home. Glad to hear hailey is coping better.

Kathy, what a guy you have pampering with your takeout. How are Kyle's spirits this weekend? Is he still with Mariah?

Aimee, I pull those grey hairs as well. We better start listening to Sheryl. ;)

Becky, I love those personal size LeCreuset casseroles. Dinner looks great as usual.

God bless parents, cherish them every day my friend.

Yep, I think I'll hold on to my guy for a while.;) Kyle is in great spirits. He's always been the kind of guy that doesn't let anything weigh on his mind for long, wish I could be that way. I really don't understand the kids today and their relationships. He tells me they're just friends yet they talk on the phone 30 times a day. Now he says they are "getting back together". I give up trying to figure it out.:upsidedow As long as he's happy I'm OK.:goodvibes

Hi All,

Complete change of plans for dinner.....1st we decided not to go out to dinner, then it was gong to be the bison, I didn't want that so Greg is out picking up yummy cheddar burgers & onion rings.
We will have the bison tomorrow, I will take some photos but I have Becky picture intimidation:rotfl:hence why I have stopped posting my food porn.

Ann, the insomnia isn't as bad as it was but still gets me. Thank you for asking. What color are you painting Luke's room?

Aimee, how are you feeling?

Nan,praying for a good doctor report for Buddy. Poor Kady. So many of our little ones have been down & out:hug: on WFD.
I miss Marissa on WFD:hug:

Color & cut is $165 + tip here. If I get a gloss it's a bit higher.

Was hoping to hear from Vicky today....

Have you tried the Le Cellier recipe? I think that is a good starting point. I use that as a guideline and then change things.

Sorry, Aimee...I just looked at the Le Cellier recipe, and that isn't what I use at all! I'll try to find the one I do use. I have made the Le Cellier one though. I left out the celery, because I hate celery, and I blended all the ingredients to make the soup smooth before adding the cheese and beer. If you need the recipe, it is on the first page of the Disney Recipes page, or I know it is posted on our thread somewhere.

Nancy -- I'm sorry Kady is sick. I hope she feels better quickly!

I'll take a look at it - I know people rave about their soup (I can't remember it being stand out, but we had such a bad exp there that I've blocked most of the experience). If you can hunt down yours, I'd love to have it! :goodvibes

Aimee, how are you feeling?

Eh. Thanks for asking

We ended up going out when I had to run errands for tomorrow.

Aimee--we don't keep that drug at our pharmacy, so I have no experience with it. Hope it starts working soon.

The cost of hair up-keep is what keeps me out of the salon except a few times a year. I'm just too cheap. I get a really good haircut a few times a year and color it myself.

Kathy--take care of that ankle! Hope you're having a good time with Kyle at home!

We had a nice day of fundraising. We spent much more than planned but all for a good cause. I did manage to place the winning bid on the class Christmas artwork. We also had the winning bid on an afternoon painting pottery with your teacher. Emma is so excited about being able to spend an afternoon alone with her teachers. Now time for bed. We have church tomorrow and then we're going to try and see the toy story double feature in the afternoon.

Is there a recipe for this!!! It sounds like something I would love!!!

Steph, I would love to see a picture of the artwork you won!!!! I'm so glad you got it!

I dont know if these are considered recipies but there both 5 minute meals and pouplar with kids.

You need:
A pack of FLOUR tortilas (corn dont taste right)
Pizza sauce (you dont use much so I recomend the kind in the squeeze bottle)
meat (not alot, less than half a pound)
cheese (whatever kind you like on pizza)

precook meat
Open tortilas, spread on some sauce, toss in other ingredents, MAKE SURE some of your cheese is near the edge. Then you toss it in the microwave for around 30 seconds (to melt the chese). Take out, fold into thirds (lengthwise) and make sure you have a cheezy edge on top. Press down and it should stick.
Serves 12 (depending on tortilla pack size)

Another "recipe" to use up leftovers

same ingredents MINUS tortilla. You also need bread

Put pizza sauce on bread. Put ingredents on One side. Put other peice of bread on top. Place in sandwich maker (or microwave but it dosn't come out as well). Serve.

Let's see...I just HAVE to post what I had for dinner at the festival. :lmao:

I saw Sheryl and her DH! :goodvibes Well Sheryl made me try something...pheasant quail andouille gumbo. NO LIE. :faint:

Yes, it was good. She'll back me up on this. :lmao:

Bethany I really like peasant. My cousin used to hunt peasants before his stroke. It makes a really good soup. I think it has a turkey taste. I have never had quail though.

Last nights soup was good. But I wonder if I left out the celery if I would like it more.

Aimee More than half of a beer cheese soup success or failure is in the beer you choose. That much I've learned.

Tonight is Glynis' pot roast in the crockpot.

Is there a recipe for this!!! It sounds like something I would love!!!

I will get the recipe from DM sometime this week for you. She makes it for me because it would go to waste at my house and Dad loves it.

I am going to try your Italian Ravioli Stew this week, I bought the fixings and am going to add me own twist to it. I figure I better put some meat in there for DH. I am going to try adding mini pork meatballs to it.

Ann, the insomnia isn't as bad as it was but still gets me. Thank you for asking. What color are you painting Luke's room?
$165 for your hair :scared1: , I thought $115 was bad...that is why I no longer highlight eventhough it is my favorite look for my hair. I just can't justify the expense with not working.

I am painting the room "Wild Porcini". It is a taupe. I am going with a sports theme with accents of denim, red, and blue.

God bless parents, cherish them every day my friend.
I sure do! I will never take my time with them for granted. I know my kids and I are so lucky to have them.

----------

My little guy woke up all congested last night around 11pm. We had a rough night. Poor thing's sinuses are so congested and his nose is runny. No temp.
I just gave him some Triaminic. I hate having the kids sick, and I worry about him giving it to Emma.

DH is at the Patriots game today. My DM made him pulled pork to tailgate with. I will probably be eating pulled pork myself.

I dont know if these are considered recipies but there both 5 minute meals and pouplar with kids.

They work for me :thumbsup2 Welcome an please continue to post.

My first husband used to hunt pheasant but I never tried it. I wish now that I had.

My little guy woke up all congested last night around 11pm.

I am beginning to feel the same way. I have told you Buddy's idea a long time ago....I should go to his hairdresser at the convalescent home, sh is cheaper than mine :scared1::eek:NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOld him that was not een up for a discussion. But I really need to reconsider how much I spend on my hair, especially since I have not liked the cut lately. The color is really good though and the highlights are done well too. See my dilemma?

Poor Luke  Hope he feels better today

My SIS Il is at the game today too :thumbsup2

$150 for cut and color???????:scared1: My hairdresser charges $65.

I think that the highlights are what brought it up but her prices are more than that for a cut and color, that is why I am trying someplace new. I cannot justify that kind of money right now.

When I was a kid I worked in a little family restaurant. We made grape-nut pudding all of the time and it flew out the door! I used to make it for my Mom. All I did was make a basic custard and sprinkle Grape-nuts liberally on top. Bake the way you make a custard. YUM! We did make it in a pan, not individual dishes. This is a basic recipe, use whole milk. Reviews indicated that if you bake in a casserole the baking time is about 75 minutes.

I agree...stop trying to understand, you'll go :dance3:I am like an ostrich sometimes, it is easier that way :rotfl:

now I want a gloss!

Maria - We all have "Becky pic intimidation"! Post anyway!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Post Pics Maria!!!!!!!!!!!

Dinner is going to be the roasted chicken if the girls come for dinner. If they are not coming I'll have the kielbasa stir fry I planned with fried potatoes and onions.

Thanks for all the Well Wishes for Buddy! he is crabby lately and I know it is because he is not comfortable. He also has this long list of chores he wants to do. We have 6 or 8 cords of wood he wants to cut and split and he really has not been up to swinging a chainsaw around. He told me he is going to start yard cleanup today. That means I should go out and start mine too :upsidedow. My beds are a mess and I am not really looking forward to cleaning them up. I have no excuse, I have been home but :surfweb: is always calling me lately!

Hey lassies....

Wanted to check in.

Real tough week here.

I ended up with an infection in my tooth socket which then spread thu my system.

Really floored me and I got strong antibiotics ,but because I could not eat the made me very sick.

I also have to go back on tuesday to make sure Ive not been left with a hole in my sinus....not good with a plane journey loomimg.

Im so upset,Im trying to focus on the prize on Friday but Im really worried I'll still be poorly.

I havent read back but hugs and love ower the water.

Take care of you and yours....xx

Oh Vickie  I hope you feel better quickly! That sounds terrible!

I JUST woke up. Usually I wake up at 5:30 everyday, including weekends. But yesterday I slept in until 7:30 (I was out at a friend's house chatting in her backyard (and swatting mosquitoes LOL) until midnight on Friday night. Then last night we didn't go to sleep until 1 because of the Gretna Fest. I got up at 9:30 and poor Anabelle was like :confused3.

I paid $13 including tip for my haircut (no color/styling) a few weeks ago. :rolleyes1

Good Morning! I hope everyone is doing well...I have not really read back but hope to do so later. Just wanted to check in so you know I am OK. Busy trying to get done and trying to make a dent in the garage...UGH! I sound like a broken record so I will shut up now.

I picked up a few things at Macys yesterday so I am pretty much set for my trip. I have to get a few pairs of capris taken in in the waist. I HATE that problem!

Going to a vendor show at a local firehouse. My friend is running it so I wanted to get out of the house a but. I am sure the Mary Kay lady will try and sell me stuff but I  my current MK lady Sheryl!!! I wonder if it will be the lady that stops me all the time in Wally World...speaking of Wally World, that is where I need to go later and then stop for some groceries.

I decided not to do the walk a thon today. It is an hour away and I just dont have time. I gave a donation instead.

Not sure about dinner. I have been bad but still down a pound...not going to make my Disney goal on the weight loss. oh well. Andrew is by his Dad... they are going to the pay per view wrestling tonight so if you watch, look out for A!

Hugs to all! BBL...

Bethany – I was looking forward to trying that gumbo myself! Glad you liked it.:thumbsup2

Ann – Hoping Luke feels better soon.

Vicki – I am so sorry you’ve had such a rough week. Good thoughts and prayers coming your way my friend.

WFD - Italian roast, linguine and a salad.

Oh Vickie :scared1:, please take care of yourself. We are thinking of you and sending love. Rest, rest, rest so you can enjoy your trip.

Bethany, I am impressed you gave in to Sheryl. You are becoming a gourmet my friend!;)

Sheryl, you are right about the recipe. I think the recipe she uses was originally on the grapenut box but not sure if it still is. I can picture and actual piece of the cutout box in her recipe box. Speaking of recipe boxes I told DM the other day I wanted her recipe box as my inheritance and my SILs better not even think of touching it. :lmao:

Tired of wiping this little nose and washing my hands a 1,000 times!!
