Party Every Day - Updated 8/29/10

Woot! Loved it. I'm pleased you portrayed me more accurately than in the original version, which featured an unforgivable attack on my character (that I'm a fan of the show Jonas! :scared1:)

I followed you on twitter! (NAL107!) and i will be twittering from WDW starting friday!!

Yay! Thanks for following, we loved your comments! Following you now. Hope you have a great time. I'm looking forward to your tweets! :thumbsup2

I just wanted to chime in as someone who followed these three on Twitter and had a blast. Can't wait to relive it here!

(Still wishing I'd done a full-on TR from my recent trip.....Grrr)

I was a Twitter follower too, and loved it. You ladies inspired me to live tweet our trip too. It was fun!

Can't wait to relive your trip with you here

ScottMC! You should just write a TR now! Thanks for following us on twitter. We loved tweeting at you every time we saw the GF, Alice, or Peter.

Thanks so much for following! :woohoo: Glad you decided to live tweet too. Liz and I (Laura) thought it was the greatest way to cope with our short attention spans while in line or waiting 3 hours for Jen to get ready. ;)

Signing up to relive some of the fun I had following you on twitter and meeting you ladies! Wow! What awesomeness... just wish you lived closer :sad2:

Agreed! The day you guest starred in is going to be amazing, though.

Thanks so much for signing on to follow along, everyone! :goodvibes

Rude.

September 12, 2009 – Day 1

After a late night of packing and an early wakeup, we arrived at the airport just a few minutes before we had to board our 8 am flight to MCO. Our flight was smooth and uneventful, just how I like them. I had just enough time to catch up on the two latest DIS Unplugged podcast shows and rock out to a few repeats of my fav Peas tune, while calculating the expected tips for our TS meals for the week and filling bank envelopes with the funds (which turned out to be fantastic during our trip - we only had to add or subtract one or two dollars a few times where my calculations were slightly off).

011.jpg

Meanwhile, Laura and Liz held an arts and crafts extravaganza on our way down to DW, creating these lovely mousekeeping tip envelopes with content from the sophisticated M Mag, coloring in a Disney Halloween coloring book that we had picked up at the Dollar Tree, and finger painting with an awesome set of Crayola paints that appear clear in their little tubs and on fingers, but reveal their true colors on the special papers that come with the kit. :cool2:

Basically our row of the plane looked nuts. :joker:

After our flight landed, we found the Magical Express area in terminal B of MCO (which I am noting here for my future reference because we first went down to terminal A, as we have incorrectly done almost every time we intend to get to the ME :confused3).

The area seemed very crowded, but we went quickly through the line and were directed to the queue for the MK area resort bus. It was about 11 am at this point. We waited just a few minutes and then boarded our bus with probably five other groups. We were disappointed to get a regular Mears bus, rather than a cute ME one, but not to worry, our bus was equipped with the ME video.

We had lucked out in getting front row seats with hopes of capturing great pics of the DW and MK signs. As a result of the pouring rain that welcomed us to sunny Florida, these are the pics we got.

Majestic, no?

Once we'd passed under that DW sign, however pathetic it may have looked, we officially began our vacation by breaking out our tiaras. princess:

There we were, in DW, donning our tiaras and hot green Disney ride tees (TSM for Laura and Liz and Buzz Lightyear for me, since I'm old school, you know) - life was grand. As luck would have it, the Poly was our bus's first stop and we were the first to disembark and head to the check in desk.

We were checked in by a lovely CM who told us that our request for the highest floor in Tokelau had been granted and handed us "I'm Celebrating" buttons (because I had noted that we were celebrating Laura's and Liz's graduations with the faint glimmer of hope that we might be upgraded, perhaps to CL, but we are not as fortunate as some, such as our good pal Scott MC). Anyway, we walked away from the desk pleased that our room was ready and that our requests had been granted.

Then we realized we hadn't been given leis, so we marched back and demanded that the CM bestow them upon us. Except we actually just politely asked.

We then went over to bell services to let them know that we were expecting a couple of packages and asked if they'd like us to give them our room number then or call from our room for delivery. We were told to go to a desk outside, and that a CM there would take us to the area where we could pick up our packages to take to our room. Um, no thanks, we'd prefer not to lug a case of water around a giant resort. So we promptly left for our room to call bell services from there.

However, we decided to make a pit stop for food at Captain Cook's. Liz and I got food, but Laura didn't see anything on the menu that she thought she could eat (she is allergic to nuts and soy and is a vegetarian), so she decided to wait to get lunch at the MK. I had been absolutely ravenous this day, having consumed a huge baggie of Cheerios (truly huge, approximately three bowls full), a granola bar, and two gross but pretty large muffins (minus the raisins that were inexplicably contained in them) that were given to me and Laura on the plane (I did not steal Liz's from her). Needless to say, I was starved again by a bit before 12. :upsidedow Liz and I both got turkey club sandwiches and Mickey Premiums as our dessert, which we promptly began to consume right there in Captain Cook's while waiting for our sandwiches. That's the way to start a trip right!

Once we'd gotten our sandwiches, we walked over to Tokelau, eager to check out our room. When we entered our third floor room, I knew it would be too far from the lagoon side of the building to be able to peek off of the balcony for a view of the lagoon and that it was not on the side of the building facing the quiet pool. No matter, we thought, the grounds really are lovely at the Poly, so we'll be perfectly pleased with our garden view. Well, we were! And initially we were also very pleased with our room.

Upon first glance, it was huge, and nice and bright with the curtains pulled back. We were, however, a bit apprehensive upon seeing how small the single sink/vanity area was inside the bathroom. I knew there would be only a single sink in Tokelau, and sinks inside of the bathrooms in all longhouses, but actually seeing it made me nervous about the logistics of fitting in all of our (okay, mostly my) products and toiletries and being able to get ready in the mornings when only one person could fit comfortably at the sink/ mirror area at a time. But still, everything looked lovely and we were pleased.

Because I'm a complete germaphobe (Laura is worse, FYI), I check all hotel beds for bed bugs before putting any of my belongings anywhere near the beds. So I approached the first bed, pulled the covers back, and saw a bed bug much larger than the little red dots I was prepared to look for! :scared1:

068.jpg

It was a prehistoric-looking light brown little spider. It didn't move at all when I pulled the covers back, so I knew immediately that it was dead. I wasn't freaked out, just grossed out. I did not want to lay my head near where a spider had expired, and didn't know how many of his relatives might be lurking nearby. :worried:

At about the same time, we discovered an empty beer can in the garbage can in our room (large Coors Light - extra classy :rolleyes2). Yuck.

074.jpg

Then we noticed a large white stain on the carpet near the garbage. I'm really hoping it was just ice cream.

Next, we sat on the couch in our room, and sent out an SOS to Twitter about this unacceptable sitch. While doing so, we noticed this used toothpick on the floor.

070.jpg

Not surprised at this point.

(This is Laura, FYI) We called down to the front desk and had a rather bizarre conversation. During this phone call, they kept insisting on a description of this bug. When we told them it appeared to be a spider, they requested we go up to the bug and count its legs to confirm that there were eight. The front desk told us that they would send Pest Control up as soon as possible. As helpful as Pest Control may be with issues like used toothpicks and sticky messes littering the floor, we were not satisfied with this plan. :confused3 Moments later, the phone rang, and it was that crazy front desk again! Apparently, they just wanted to know what color the bug was. We found these exchanges with the front desk to be completely absurd, and we were getting pretty disgusted by their insistence that we examine a dead spider. Jen and Liz were too starved to wait another moment to eat, so we used this unsightly room to eat, change out of our crazy hot green shirts, snapped a few pics to disgust our twitter pals, and planned to get ourselves out of there immediately. I was too afraid to even sit on the couch in there and was just about ready to head over to see if the GF had any vacancy when good old Pest Control arrived. The fellow came in and asked if we wanted him to look at the bug. We told him that we supposed he could if he wanted, but that we would be requesting another room. ::yes::

Stay tuned to find out if we'll be stuck in a bug/ trash-infested room all week (or, just please stick around anyway even if you know the outcome because you followed us on Twitter).

Love the tiaras! Sorry about the rain. We weren't lucky at getting an upgrade either (we were hoping for RPC, instead of SL that we booked). So excited and can't wait for more.

I thought the front desk encounter was unacceptable from the moment you said "we had to go back to get leis" I wasn't having it lol.

I don't think I read the outcome on twitter (or don't remember) but i'm definitely around for this one, I was so angry reading your encounter! It's the little things that bother me about Disney check ins (no leis, no buttons if you are celebrating an anniversary etc) and what you pay for the Poly you should not expect a hard time when you call and say there's a bug/toothpick/stain in the room!! Heck, I stayed at POFQ and when we walked in the room looked in the middle of cleaning (bed not made, towels everywhere) and they were beyond thrilled to move us and make sure we were okay with the move!

Okay that was longer than I expected lol. Onwards! Can't wait for more! PS: Wizards rocks, my 18 year old brother (read EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD MALE) loves the disney channel especially wizards!

I'm in :)

That bug is totally gross and I would have been freaking out if I had found that, esp in the bed :scared1: I did not follow your Twitter (but wish I had now) so am hoping your outcome was good.

I hope the rest of your day goes well, looking forward to reading more popcorn::

Oh am loving the tiaras btw :cutie:

Oh no! Hope things improved for you. I leave Wednesday and also requested 3rd floor Tokelau...I'll be sure to scout out the room before unpacking! -fellow germaphobe

I know we should never expect an upgrade, but one sure would be nice! Though really any room category at the Poly and GF is great.

Yay this TR finally started. :)

Obviously, I'm in for this one.

:wave2: Thanks for joining us!

We agree! We couldn't believe the front desk really seemed not to care at all when we called about the state of our room! And, :rotfl:, love that your brother loves the Disney Channel and the Wizards! What a good guy! :wizard:

Thanks for reading! And, yes, the spider really was gross! At least it was dead and wasn't coming toward me while I was inspecting it!

Ouch!

You do have all the luck, which delights me, since we got to hear about your upgrade! It couldn't have happened to a better GF fan! :thumbsup2

 Yes, inspect your room first before settling in! Third floor Tokelau really was a great location and the room had a beautiful view, so I hope you get to stay there! :goodvibes
