I have put my last load of spending money on my Fairfx card :woohoo:, I have some dollars in change left over from last years trip to Mexico but was planning on getting the all of our spending money out of a cash machine in our hotel and putting it in the safe (far easier for me to keep track of money that way!). How much does the machine charge you I have $7 going spare to cover a bank charge is this enough?:)

Sorry, I don't the answer to this question, but I have another I hope you don't mind me tagging on?

I tried to check my PIN here in the UK the other day and the ATM didn't want to play, is it coz the amount is in $? Was my PIN correct because it didn't decline my PIN, it just got confused I think.

Do I even need a PIN for use in Orlando?

Thanks, and sorry for the hijack!!

Gemmy: You'll be charged $2 per cash withdrawal from fairfx. If the machine you are using also charges you, add that on, although there are plenty that don't charge you.

Meryll; I've used my card a lot (probably more than I should have!) in the UK and it's always been fine, it works like any other card, so I'd have to assume the cash point you used was playing silly buggers lol. Try another cash point. :)

And most places in Orlando like you to sign and don't have a pin machine, you only really need your pin for cash points.

most of the machines in disney now are chase machines and they charge you as well as fairfx charge you

there is a suntrust opposite dtd that doesnt charge you but you still get the $2 fee from fairfx

we used ours like a debit card and i just signed it instead of drawing the cash out

Alternatively, it is possible my PIN was wrong, but I thought it would tell me that straight rather than the cryptic message it gave me. Perhaps I'll request a new PIN to be safe!

Thanks everyone :thumbsup2

Orangetiggs was there a cash mahcine at Coronado Springs when you stayed there last year?

yes there is, they are all chase ones now so will charge you twice, the fee for chase and then fairfx charge you. I only used the chase ones once then I made sure I used a free one as the chase ones are around $2 so thats $4 in fees

are you staying on site? why not put the card on the room key (like a CC)that way you will only be charged for one fee at the end
Paul

A word of warning though guys......
don't put all your eggs in one basket.....

not long back from POFQ, Chase machine in the foyer decided in
it's infinate wisdom to deduct $500 from my FairFX account
without actually spitting the money out.......

That was on about the 10th august........still in the process of
trying to get it back.......

It was only good fortune that I could afford to miss the $500,
but I would not do it again without having back up system...

Not to put too much of a downer on it I have great faith
in FairFX to be truthful and they have helped me at every
hurdle. Used my card on numerous occations after the event
without any trouble at all

I have heard of problems with tips using the card that way, plus I find it easier to track my money in cash. Were only planning on getting 1 lot of money out so there would only be one fee until I read the post below.....:scared1:

Thanks for posting - might get the money out in two lots instead

the problem with putting the fairfx card on the room is that disney will make a charge to the card so it will stay pending till you leave the resort

they will not charge you the fee but you might find it harder to keep track on the amounts spent if you dont know the amount disney charges

We just used ours like a debit card and only drew out of the cash machine once i think at suntrust with no problems

Another question: does anyone know the maximum amount you can withdraw in one transaction from a US cashpoint machine?

I thought that Disney only chaged $1 to you card just to make sure that it's valid. :confused3

always thought these cards were no good, charged to get one and charged to get money out.Why not just get TC`c use as cash you know how much you spent and covered if lost or stolen

I like the fact that I can add on to my holiday spending money here and there when I have a bit of money spare at the end of the month then, using it as a debit card, I don't get charged for using it when we are away. Yes I could put the money in a savings account and then buy TCs but I know I would spend it if I did it that way.

As far as keeping track of spends is concerned - that's why the good Lord invented pen and paper. ;) I've always thought that surely you need to keep track of how many TCs you have left anyway. :confused3

my parents credit card got charged for $500 when they checked in last year at CSR

i agree i like the fact i can add on to my card whenever and get a much better rate than buying tc

I also agree its not for everyone but works for us as we dont have a credit card

The rate is far better with a Fairfx card than travellers cheques or the highstreet, you don't have to buy the card or get charged to use it if you don't want to.

I don't plan on using a cash point at all, I have some dollars in cash for tips and that's pretty much all I need. Almost everywhere takes Mastercard so I won't need to be charged a penny. I got my card for free too. Can't lose.

You can also easily keep track of your spending online and via text wherever you are.
