Oneworld carrier American Airlines has announced it is to launch a daily summer seasonal service from Manchester to New York JFK in 2010, just days after Delta confirmed it is to drop its own service on the route.

The new route will operate daily between May 16 and September 30, 2010, using two-class Boeing 757-200 aicraft with 16 lie-flat seats in business class and 156 seats in economy. The schedule calls for flight AA211 to depart Manchester at 1110, arriving into New York at 1350, with the return leg leaving JFK at 1940, landing back into the UK at 0755 the next day.

This will be the second US route offered by the Oneworld carrier from Manchester, joining its long-established year-round flights to Chicago. The news follows Delta’s confirmation that it is to drop its Manchester-New York JFK route from January 8, 2010. Continental – which is due to leave Skyteam for Star Alliance next month - currently flies twice-daily from Manchester to New York Newark.

Thanks for posting this info.

We always fly out to the States from Man. and we love AA. So we're very happy! :goodvibes

Well we're not gaining anything if one airline is pulling out of MAN really. What we need is someone to do a route from LBA.

LBA is expanding, at the moment Jet2 are doing a few flights in Dec to NY. What we need is a daily direct flight to MCO. That would be great. 10mins down the road.

Never going to happen.
With manchester so close and an inability for mAN to keep routes, LBA will not be able to compete on cost or services.

Will Delta still fly from Manchester to Atlanta? We love Delta, but hated the JFK transfer. This time we are going via Atlanta and I am hoping that this will become a regular thing for us.

It looks as if Delta will still be operating the Atlanta route, and Delta are suggesting this as a means of getting to New York with them.

Not sure how convenient the replacement AA service will be, as there is currently only one direct AA flight between New York and Orlando leaving at 15:35. Return flight from Orlando arrives at 14:55, so heck of a long wait for the Manchester flight (although should be possible to route home via Chicago rather than New York).

That's good news about Delta still flying from Manchester to Atlanta.

Apart from the timings, there is another reason why AA is not such an attractive proposition. For transatlantic flights, the check in times are silly early and AA departs from Terminal 3 at Manchester, which has very little by way of facilities.

LBA is just about to undergo major expansion, including a new terminal building, so you never know!!!

It was all over the local news a few months back, that the airport was trying to attract new routes and airlines. It may take years, but hey, we can still keep wishing.

From http://www.manchester-airport-guide.co.uk/terminal-3.html

Terminal 3
The newest addition to Manchester Airport. Built to serve British Airways services and many UK domestic flights, a number of international airlines also use the terminal.

Terminal 3 is directly linked to Terminal 1 giving passengers a greater choice of catering and shopping outlets.

Can anyone confirm this indeed is the case? Also, how early is check-in? We are flying with AA to Chicago in December from M'cr Terminal 3.

This is fairly accurate. There are two things that are not correct. Terminal 3 is no longer linked to Terminal 1. The bridge was torn down when the redid Terminal 1. There is either a shuttle bus or it is a short walk (less than 10 minutes) from Terminal 1.

The list of shops and eating places is also fairly accurate, but the shops are tiny. I also never have seen a Starbucks airside (I would know as I have a serious Starbucks habit), but there is a Costa Coffee. For a domestic/ shorthaul terminal it is great, but it is lacking for international departures.

As to check in time, Manchester airport recommends 3 hours for international departures and the airline might recommend different timings. I know that Delta recommended 4 hours, which is actually quite funny, as their website states an hour. Fortunately we fly out of terminal 2, which is great as far as shops and other facilities are concerned and that terminal has a Starbucks airside.
