i have seen on all the various disney forums that there is so much confusion over baggage allowances with this new baggage allowance business, i have been told by va who i stressed to that i booked with tcd , go in feb and paid in full and i got told"you WILLreceive the original allowance of 2x23kgs , but someone else in same position got told something completely different.
What im getting at is that its about time va/vh/tcd SORTED it out and put a proper CLEAR message to all their CUSTOMERS and end this confusion as people will just vote with their wallets in the end, i call on everyonw to bombard va/vh/tcd with emails telling them how unaceptable this is and tell them all about these message boards and how their inconsistencies are causing confusion, despair and anger amongst all their customers,...... rant over

I've been hearing the same things about VA customers still get the original allowance if they've paid in full as they will have been ticketed at that point, however VH/TCD will not receive the original allowance if they have paid in full because VH/TCD will not have paid the money to VA at that point.
Like you say very confusing and Virgin really need to make a clear statement about this to help people who havn't got a clue what's going on

it all depends on if the tickets have been ticketed before the date or not,

If not tickets have been issued you get the new allowance, if you book direct with VA then its ticketed almost straight away and tickets are sent out via email so you will get the old allowance

I emailed VA a couple of days ago and they replied straight away:

Our checked in luggage policy will change effective 25th November 2009. However as you all booked your flights before 25th November 2009, the existing baggage allowance will be applicable for your trip. Hence Upper Class passengers will be allowed to carry a maximum of 3 pieces per person, weighing no more than 32kg each and Economy passengers can carry 2 x 23kgs per person with a maximum linear measurement of of 158cm (62in).

But when booking with VA, you have to pay in full and get E-Tickets at the time of booking so not sure if that makes a difference!

I knew this would happen as soon as Virgin announced the change.

To be on the safe side I asked for written confirmation from Virgin that I was still entitled to the previous baggage allowance which I received within 24 hours of requesting.

If it helps anyone the email address I used was the following:

customer.services@fly.virgin.com

My concern was checkin at DTD for our return flight.

We always fly PE and you would therefore think that we had more than enough allowance, but last year we returned with the maximum allowed.

In the past I have always found MAN okay but have heard numerous disagreements occuring at DTD.

errr i have paid in full to tcd so i dont care if they have sent the tickets or not i have paid for a holiday with 2x23kgs and that is in my holiday contract so thats what i am entitled to if they think they are going to rip me off they have another think coming, i just want what is in my holiday contract which i have paid for, i have emailed va asking them about this and told them i had booked a package with tcd and the nice man from va replied telling me that as i have booked before 25th nov and paid in full i would recieve the original allowance of 2x23 kgs so as far as im concerned thats what im getting as per contract, im going to take the email with me and show them if needed

just giving you my opinion, having worked for VA!

Next time I wont bother

OK,
lets try and get to the bottom of this shall we?

Stop listening to everyone else. ONLY VIRGIN ATLANTIC can confirm which allowance you get.
It doesn't matter which travel agent you booked with, the flight is with Virgin Atlantic, NOT Virgin holidays, NOT TCD, nor any other travel company.

Its NOT the travel companies allowance, its the carriers and in this case its Virgin Atlantic. Martin you are wrong, look at your TCD terms and conditions, I bet it does not state an actual baggage allowance. Orangetiggs is quite correct.

Contact Virgin Atlantic direct, not through the travel company or through a forum, but DIRECT!

Tell them your situation and get a response by email which you can take to the checkin desk/bag drop.

Its no use turning up to a carriers checkin saying "but my booking is with TCD and they said its 2X23" its not the carriers problem what TCD or any third party stated.

Personally I would like to know what you think you can do about this at the airport on the day. If you turn up with 2x23kg bags and the checkin desk say 'Sorry - you're only allowed 1' - what then??:confused3

I followed the good advice of someone else (apology I don't recall who :rolleyes1 ). I went into Manage flight on Virgin Atlantic's website.
called up my booking and selected baggage allowance.
I then printed it off. This is now safely tucked away in the travel folder and will be accompanying us to Gatwick and DTD check in :goodvibes

I'd think most package holiday companies would have something in the T&Cs covering themselves for changes in baggage allowance, been a while since I booked a package though so don't quote me on that!

Nope :goodvibes

What you did was quite right. You have an email from Virgin Atlantic confirming you are entitled to the old allowance.

its more for the dtd check in tbh as we will be doing plenty of shopping(really the missus will and i dread the credit card bill!) if at dtd check in they say to me only 1 bag and i show them the email what can i do if they try to stand firm?

Ask to see the supervisor. If you don't get anywhere, (But you should be OK, as you have proof) take the cases to MCO and checkin there
If the worst comes to the worst, pay the extra baggage cost and demand it back from Virgin Atlantic when you arrive home (plus some miles for the inconvineience)
