We're back from our trip and had a fabulous time. I know that many of you had questions about the new HOJO pirate kid suites, so here's our take on staying in one.

LOVED having 2 seperate rooms and bathrooms. It's great for both privacy, changing clothes and whatnot, and having two bathrooms was a definite time saver when getting ready in the morning. Two of us could be showering and getting ready at the same time.

YES - the bunk beds are true twin size beds, so for those of you who have teenagers, if they fit in a twin size bed, they will fit in the bunk beds at the HOJO. If they have longer legs and their knees hit the side-rails on the top bunk when lying on their side, then have them either sleep on the bottom bunk or on the twin-size sofa sleeper (or should I say love seat sleeper). :thumbsup2

Highway noise - okay, yes, you can hear the traffic on the freeway a bit in your room. It's not horrible, but if you're a light sleeper or someone not used to traffic noise (like me) it could be a problem for you. However, it was HOT when we were there, so we had the AC on all night, which worked out nice because the AC fan worked like a white noise machine, so I really couldn't hear the traffic noise much at all. So here's a good piece of advice for you.......run the air in the room at night (doesn't matter if it's the AC, heat, or just the fan, as long as the fan is running it will drown out the traffic noise), or bring your own white noise machine from home. I'm a light sleeper, but I didn't have any problems sleeping at all. :)

Beds - The king pillow top bed, pillows and comforter can be summed up in one word - WONDERFUL! I truly love the new beds, new pillows, and the new comforters at the HOJO. It's like you're wrapped up in softness and comfort. I wish I could describe how nice they are in better terms, but man oh man......just heavenly!

Pirate decor - okay, the decor is not really overly piratey. In other words, the rooms aren't nearly as thoroughly themed as say what you would find at a Disneyworld Resort hotel. But that said, the new kid suites at the HOJO are really cute. I actually love the colors and patterns.....it's makes the rooms so light, bright, and cheerful. The Pirates of the Caribbean pictures around the rooms are actually pretty cool (our boys really like them and recognized scenes from the actual ride) and the wall lights look like they are filled with sand, which I thought was neat looking.

Castaway Cove - Our kids really enjoyed it and had a great time, and it was nice for DH and I to relax and get off our feet for a bit while the kids could run off some more steam. We watched the fireworks from the hot tub two nights during our trip, and the view is great!

Garden Pool - We also enjoyed swimming in the garden pool. It's a nice size pool in a pretty area of the property, and it was definitely refreshing because it was just so darn hot and humid when we were there.

Here are a few pictures of our room, decor, and view.

It looks great!

If it were available when we were going I would book it! I hadn't even thought about how much of a time saver 2 bathrooms would be.

Did you get The Entertainment rate?

We will be staying at The Hojo for the first time in December. I was a little nervous but I think we will really like it.

thanks for the report...we'll be staying in one a week from Saturday!

Hey Capri! Thanks for the pictures! Can you tell me if the door into the suite (from the outside hallway) goes into the kids area or the parents area? Or are there 2 doors to the outside?
Thanks!

Thanks for the pictures, really worth 1000 words to see it.

My question for you: could you fit a twin rollaway into the kids' side along with the bunk beds and pull-out sleeper? I am contemplating the kids' suite for a future trip but would have to fit 4 into the kids' room.

Thanks for posting the pictures and answering questions!

Yes, we did get the Entertainment rate, which currently is $99 plus tax per night for the kid suite.

Hope you have a great time in December! :santa:

Oh, just around the corner! Have a magical time! :woohoo:

Thanks!

The door to the hallway goes into the kids area. There is no outside door to the hallway in the parents part of the suite. I'm not sure why they set it up that way since it seems that the funiture could easily be switched around so the door opened up into the parents area, and the kids part of the suite could be the side with no door to the hallway. I believe both sides of the suite are the same size, so that couldn't be a factor in how they determined which side was the bunk bed side and which was the king bed side.

I know that some people were concerned of young ones unlocking the door and walking out, but truthfully we were more concerned with our boys playing and rough housing out on their balcony (we were on the fifth floor) without us knowing they were out there, and one of them falling over the railing. The first thing we did when we got there was specifically tell them, "YOU DO NOT GO OUT ON THE BALCONY WITHOUT MOM OR DAD THERE, PERIOD!" and they never did go out on their balcony. :goodvibes

A twin rollaway could easily fit in the kids side of the suite. There's PLENTY of room. :thumbsup2

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I have been talking to my sister about booking this suite.

Great info - thank you for the indepth report on it. We'll be staying at HoJos next time we come down (after this October's visit) and that suite could work well for us :)

Hey Capri, what floor were you on and were you close to the elevators are closer to the other end of the building?

Thanks for the info Capri. Will need to think this over for a bit. We do have the Pirates suite booked for our (possible) November trip but I'm not sure about the room set-up with Jack. However it is an awesome price and I LOVE their beds! :thumbsup2

Thanks disney-super-mom! You answered most of my questions... one being "how piratey is it?" There is so much you can do with that theme. And of course the more you do, the higher the price. I appreciate being able to get it for $99 a night.

So, would you recommend a certain floor/room #?

I booked for 2 different time periods a long time ago -- just been waiting to see which one would work out for us. Anyway, tomorrow morning I will be cancelling one of our reservations (check in Nov. 7....checkout Nov.12, in case anyone wants to pounce on that).

Thanks for all the pics! Looks like you thought of everything! One more random question... can you fit a gallon jug of milk in those fridges? or 2 half-gallons?

That's a great room! Even without the pirate stuff it would be great; they should change ALL their rooms to those color schemes (all blocky and dotty) even with other colors, to really go with their website retro theme. :)

Is it just me who said "I've got a jar of dirt" when they saw the sand-filled light fixtures?

Hi there Callie.:)

We were very close to the elevators. We would walk out of the elevators, go left, and we were the first door (and I think only door) on the left. So our room was about as far as you can get from the freeway on the freeway side of the building.

Hi sweetie, yeah I hear you there about Jack. You could sleep in the sofa sleeper in the bunk bed side, or have him sleep in the king bed with you, to keep a closer eye and ear out for him, but then what's the point of a kid suite, you know what I mean? Also, I'm not sure how Jack is with noises, but I noticed some children who were sensitive to certain sounds/noises didn't like the Castaway Cove area because of the loud water sounds constantly going on. Ryan doesn't have much of a sensitivity to noises anymore, and he had a great time there, but I did witness other children who covered their ears and did not want to be in there.

Hmmmmm, well I know that the rooms closest to the elevator are the furthest from the freeway, so you could make that a request. However, you'll still be pretty close to the freeway, so I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes. I guess I would have to stay in a kid suite that is furthest from the elevators to make a comparison. :goodvibes

I'm not sure if a gallon would fit in the mini-fridge, but 2 half gallons could fit, especially if you took out the shelf (although that may not be necessary). :thumbsup2

I agree Molly, I love the color scheme and patterns, and think it would look great in all their rooms with their retro theme. :thumbsup2

"I've got a jar of dirt". Hahaha, I had to think about that for a second, and then I remembered Jack Sparrow with his jar of dirt. I didn't make that connection, but now that you mention it, that's pretty funny! :rotfl2:

Nice report, and great photos. Kinda narrows it down for next trip. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for the report. I have a huge grin on my face as I think about staying in the Pirate Suites in December! :woohoo: Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't think the freeway view is all that bad. When we were at DLR two years ago, we stayed at the GCH. Now, don't get me wrong, it a gorgeous hotel, but our room was just okay. And our view was pretty much of the roof of the wing next door. If we really stretched our necks, we could see a tiny, tiny piece of where the pool was located, but pretty much just a roof with a pipe sticking out. :rolleyes1 So, some trees, some sky, looks good to me!

A couple of questions: 1) Would you opt to stay on a lower, middle, or higher floor next time you stay? And, 2) Are the cool pillows on the bed covered with a washable cover or are they more in the way of being cushions?

And, one comment: Yes, I also wish they would flip the rooms around so the main door was through the parents bedroom. I'm wondering if they put the main door on the kids side for a safety reason (easier for rescue workers to get into first room in case of emergency). If Lorealle jumps in on this discussion, she might be able to give us some insight.

So I don't have kids, so sorry if I sound like a nut here...

What is the age limit for the "kids" in the kids suite? I'm a youth leader and DH and were planning a possible trip in the future and that seems like a great set up (most of these kids can fit in twin beds). I'm just wondering, from those with older kids, if hotels charge extra, or charge them as an adult. I can't imagine they're like Disney with kids being adults once they're 10! :rotfl:
