DON"T let this happen to your family!!

I'm glad your son is ok, that is scary and thank you for sharing.

Thank goodness your little guy is ok - what a terrifying experience for all of you!

Thank you for sharing this with all of us...it's a good reminder to always be on the lookout.

Did you post this story before? I'm just wondering if I'm having serious deja vous, I could have sworn I read this same story word for word before. Hope your little one is ok.

I am so sorry that you had go through this. Thank God your son is alright. Thank you so much for the warning. I have cut through the landscape before where there is a little path that has been made by other people. I won't allow my children or me to do that anymore.

:scared1: DUDE, $140,000 FOR AN ANTI-VENOM?!?!?! :scared1:

What the heck is anti-venom made out of, magical unicorn umbilical cord blood? The snake bite part is absolutely horrible, terrifying...but that "they" would charge as much as we paid for our first home to help your kid...talk about over a barrel. That is absolutely insane.
QUOTE]

From what I understand, unless things have changed in the last few years antivenin is actually made from the snakes own venom, so you have to keep snakes and milk the venom to get antivenom. :scared1: Hence the cost.

The child would have been treated regardless of the ability to pay, thats the law with emergencies.

I am so glad your son is okay, and thank you for the warning.

When dd was injured on Disney property, we never had to pay any hospital bill. I believe our health insurance and Disney settled on something, we never found out.
I would imagine Disney would pick up the tab on this one.

I am so glad your little guy is okay, I can't imagine the worry!

Glad your son is better. I have a friend at work who owns and milks poisonous snakes. The reason that antivenom is so expensive is because it is made from snake venom which is basicley attained from private snake owners who risk their lives every time they milk a snake so it's not that easy to attain. Of course I've never heard of it being that costly must be in high demand in FL. Whic would make since. I think people forget that it is still fl which is full of things like lizards snakes and gators. Will difinately be careful this week. Thanks and good luck.

Glad to hear you son is ok.

A water moccasin is a very nasty snake I have lived in Fl. all my life and were we live in the woods about 26 miles from town I have had my share of them.

The guy next door just lost his dog to one last month. :sad1:

They favor lying dormant on logs or limbs and at the waters edge of a pond or what not. Water Moccasin can be very serious.

We have a big black snake around the house ever now and then but he will keep the poisonous snakes away or at lest I am told that.

Thats horrible, and I'm glad he's doing better. Just an FYI for the rest of the folks reading, anywhere there is water nearby in the south you run the risk of running into a cottonmouth (water moc). As a biologist who works in water quailty, they are my least fav of all the snakes in the SE...b/c they are curioius, and nearly blind...which means they come towards noise instead of away (like copperheads).

Ron: the black snake you are referring to is probably a King Snake...and they are very good snakes...and they do eat other snakes. So a friendly. ;-)

Not just you, I read the same story a few months ago. I'd assume that it is the OP that just wants to remind people of the dangers of life even in the happiest place on earth.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us. So happy that your DS is okay :goodvibes how very scary that your family had to go through this. We stayed at CBR last October and this easily could have been us. I will be making sure my kids don't take any shortcuts for sure!

I hope you DS is recovering well!

I have been in a situation were I was begging the doctors to tell me if my DD would be ok.. and they wouldn't! She was too young to ask thankfully or I would have fallen apart! I feel your pain and it is the worst feeling ever. All is well with DD now, but I never forget the horrible feeling I had. People say they are willing to die for thier child, and in theory I thought I might too, but looking at that little kid in a hospital bed taught me early on in parenting that I absolutely would.

Now I just wish I could take my Jack Russell with us.. she is a good snake hunter, we have been snake, skink, lizard and squirrel free for all the time we have had her!

Thank you for sharing your story...I am so sorry that your son had to suffer that way and that you as his parent had to deal with the horror...Did insurance cover your costs? I hope so.

WOW!:scared1: Your poor family...:sad2: I can't imagine--and my kids like to run around outside our room at the Poly-lots of time barefoot!!!! I do hope you get to take another trip there & actually get to enjoy it. I hope he wouldn't be afraid to go there again... It's really too bad that states that have a poisonous snake problem can't have that anti-venum stuff available more readily (like in the resorts)-I know it's probably impossible especially at the cost!!!!! Although I think Disney probably does a good job at trying to keep them out-obviously it's still happens.

Horrible bad luck, glad the little guy is OK. Pygmy rattlers are a big problem down here as well. Because they are small and look harmless children sometimes try to play with them with bad results.

Ron, I believe that is a picture of a Black Racer, which in FL urban legends keeps away Mocassins, though I have never read that stated definitively. Racers are non poisonous and incredibly FAST. you would literally have to RUN to catch one.

OMG, my stomach just did a flip, I am so sorry to read this. I am glad he is going to be alright. I guess you just never know. :confused3

OMG! Your story gave me the chills! I am so glad he is going to be okay!:goodvibes
