The Darling Family June Beach Club Trip:Hugging Ewoks and Finding Peter Pan

Oh wow the Treehouse Villas look amazing :) Saratoga looks really cool, just looked it up on WDW and it is huge! I love the sound of a whirpool bathtub :)

Shame the rain ruined your swimming but hopefully you get to check it out later on?

We nearly went in for DVC, but I was a little worried about getting tied in/down with such a big responsibility, when we didn't even have our own home. Am wishing we didn't cancel though because we could have been at the world by now. Maybe next time we go :)

I am glad to see that everyone got to get their baby Simba pictures taken. Poor Wendy, I am happy that she conquered her fear. Too bad you didn't get to meet Daisy. Next time!

I am finally all caught up! What a wonderful trip you had :thumbsup2 So many great experiences...I love all the pictures and details about the Beach Club since I really want to stay there next time ;)

All the character interaction at SWW looked terrific! That would be great to do but my DH has trouble with the crowds so I'm not sure it would work for us :sad2:

My goodness you got so many PP pictures - I'm going to have to take lessons on how to scout out the photographers :rotfl:

The family pictures on the beach turned beautifully, the one with you all walking towards the camera is my favourite.

How fun that you had friends to meet up with - we met up with various friends on our trip and it made the whole experience even more amazing :goodvibes

Looking forward to reading the rest!

Oh, and we also got the same photo album :)

Gorgeous pictures of the villas!! I'd love to stay in a villa someday.:cloud9:
The Treehouses really were beautiful. It made our 1 bedroom villa look tiny!

Wow! How did I miss three updates? I'm so glad Wendy got over her fear and enjoyed Kali. I didn't think there was a drop but it's been so long I wasn't sure.

I LOVE the Baby Simba pictures. We will be requesting those! My poor kids are going to be SO tired of pictures. ;)

Did Wendy ever get anything to eat?

The Treehouse Villas look awesome. I'd never really thought of doing the DVC through resale. Something to think about if the time ever comes that we can consider it.

I'm so glad you and your family got to spend so much time with your friends on this trip. It's obvious that seeing them made the trip special. :goodvibes
Wendy definitely built Kali up in her mind to something it definitely wasn't. The drama of being a girl:rolleyes: Make sure you request Baby Simba. We've never been offered it without asking. I can't remember if Wendy ever ate anything:confused3 She isn't a huge eater anyway (as you can tell since she is a stick). It seems like maybe we got some Mickey Ice cream as we left the park, but I'm not sure. And if you decide to look into DVC definitely check out the resale market. The prices are so much less especially if you're interested in SSR. Your trip is coming up. Less than a month now:banana:

Saratoga is a lovely resort and it is really spread out. This has both its pros and cons, but it makes for a real relaxed atmosphere. The Treehouse villas seem really remote. The bathtub was a fun bonus and if we'd stayed longer I would have loved the washer/dryer. It was great for drying the swimsuits. And that lets you know we did get to go swimming eventually. That is coming up next. I know how you feel about being tied down to DVC. Even after the initial purchase you still have to pay the yearly fees. That is really what makes us think twice about it.

I am glad to see that everyone got to get their baby Simba pictures taken. Poor Wendy, I am happy that she conquered her fear. Too bad you didn't get to meet Daisy. Next time!
I'm still kind of sad we didn't get to meet Daisy in her Safari outfit:sad2: But obviously I can't complain too much because we saw plenty of characters this trip:laughing: Overall the AK day was a success.

Wow you've been a busy reader;) The Beach Club is amazing! I highly recommend it. And SWW was fabulous, but it was crowded so if crowds aren't your thing it's probably best to avoid. Send any PP questions my way. I consider myself somewhat of an expert;) And that family beach picture is hanging on my wall in a 16 x 20 version so it's obviously my favorite too. Meeting our friends really did add to our trip. I hope we do it again sometime! (Well I know I'm meeting BDF there in January, but we'll both be solo!) Good taste in photo albums;)

Since the rain was still coming down we decided to hop over to the DVC models. They are open everyday for a couple of hours for current DVC members to tour and the Disney Family was our ticket in. The question was how to get there? We had a minivan with 4 adults and 7 kids. Shhhh . . . don’t tell anyone, but I suggested we all crowd in like we did back in high school. You all know what I’m talking about.;) I drove a 1976 Honda Civic (it was old even then) and one time we got 9 people in that little car! Oh the glory days. Anyway everyone agreed with my bad parenting suggestion. The big boys thought it was pretty much the coolest thing in the world that they all got to ride in the very back of the van. We were responsible enough to put the 3 year old in his carseat, the Men sat up front and the rest of us squeezed in. It was a short ride and we all survived. We arrived at the models and had fun looking around. The AKV model is just beautiful and I’m really hoping we get to stay in one in January 2011. (I know it’s a long way off.) Here is Wendy on the balcony.

At one point all the kids went out on the “balcony” and shut the door. It was fabulous. It was so quiet! (That’s something we don’t experience too often.):rotfl: The BLT models were very nice as well, but the Studios seemed really small to me. And the bathroom/kitchenette layout was really strange. In one room is the toilet and shower. Then in an adjoining room is the vanity and the kitchenette. I’m not quite sure what they were thinking.:confused3 I guess they wanted to separate the vanity from the shower and toilet, but I’m not sure I want someone doing their hair and makeup in the same space that I’m preparing my breakfast. I’m actually staying in a BLT Studio with BDF in January so I guess we’ll see how I like it then.

After our DVC visit everyone was starving so we decided to head to Earl of Sandwich for dinner. But it was still raining so we had to wait for a bus. The Disney Family always has a car at the World so they weren’t too excited about having to take a Disney bus with the masses, but parking is bad at DTD so what are you gonna do? We headed to the bus stop and waited. And waited. And waited. And every bus but ours came at least two times.:rolleyes1 And we waited. It had been about 30 minutes when BDF remembered she had a number to call if you were having transportation problems. I called the number and told the operator where we were and how long we’d been waiting. She said she would get right on it. About 20 seconds later a DTD bus pulled right up.:cool2: That is service for you! Everyone at our bus stop was impressed with my influence.:rotfl2: After our adventure we finally made it to Earl of Sandwich. This was our first time, but the Disney Family are regulars here and I can see why! Yummy! We had a great meal and we even all sat at the giant table! Perfect.:thumbsup2

It had finally quit raining and we decided we’d head over to the World of Disney for a few minutes. I was on the hunt for frames from each park and I thought this would be a good spot. Well it wasn’t. Oh well. We all browsed for a bit. BDF bought a little something, but the Darling Family walked away empty handed. Next stop Goofy’s Candy Company. We would not be walking away empty handed from there! Look at this treat. We didn't buy it.

We had a few snack credits to use up and we had a grand time deciding on and watching our creations being made. (Current reports are that snack credits have really been cut back with the Make Your Own, but they were still doing them full blown when we were there.)

John and LB#2 showed more interest in the candy bars.

Even DH got one this time. They are in order by age. We were all pretty full from EOS so we got these to go and ate them the next morning. Since the weather had cleared we figured the pool had finally opened back up. So everyone but Wendy and I headed back to get on their suits and head to the pool. Wendy and I stayed a few extra minutes to check out the Days of Christmas store. Lots of cute ornaments but all the figures were connected to glass balls. I really didn’t see these making it home safely plus I wasn’t sure there would be room so we passed on the ornaments. Wendy and I had a nice walk back to our villa. It took around 7 minutes which made me chuckle a little considering we’d waited 30 minutes for the bus. We changed into our suits and headed to SSR’s main pool.

It was around 9:00 and the pool had just opened up. It was a real nice pool. Of course it is no Stormalong Bay, but they had a smaller waterslide that John actually rode and loved. He was braver because his friends were there. Michael didn’t need any persuasion of course.;) At one point he decided going down feet first was getting boring so he came plummeting down on his stomach head first. Of course the lifeguard blew the whistle and we had to explain to him that is against the rules. He thought about that for a while and then later told DH, “Dad, sometimes it’s fun to break the rules.” :rotfl2: DH had to try real hard to keep from laughing because that is a true fact. We may be in trouble in about 10 years!
Wendy had a fabulous night here because she actually made friends with some girls!!!!:dance3: This was something she hadn’t had for the entire trip. Girls to actually play with! That is one disadvantage to Stormalong Bay. It was just so big that it didn’t really invite friend making (though the boys made a friend one day in the sand/kiddie area.) Anyway Wendy had fun playing with her new found friends and of course the boys had fun with their old friends. LB#4 took a liking to Michael and was very cute as he followed him around the pool trying to keep up.:cutie: Us adults had a nice night too as we just talked and relaxed while the kids played.

Before we knew it the lifeguards were packed up and it was 10:30. Time to hit the sack. We sadly said goodbye to the Disney family, our best neighbors ever.:sad1: But we were so grateful for the magical time we had together in our favorite place. As BDFDH put it, “At least we got to be neighbors again for a little while.” We sure do love that family.:grouphug:

We headed back to our villa and pulled out the fold out couch for the kids. They had no trouble all fitting on it. (FYI: All 5 of us were on the reservation. Disney had no problem with that though the stated occupancy is 4. There was no bedding or towels for 5, but we just gave up one of the extra pillows on the King sized bed and the boys shared a towel.)
DH and I happily retreated to our own room and king size bed. That is the way to travel!:cloud9: We closed our eyes to enjoy our last night in that magical place.

Next up: Our final Disney Day

I'm so glad you finally got to swim! I'll bet it was nice to have that little mother/daughter walk too.

I didn't know there was a number you could call about transporation. Is that a DVC perk?

The treats look yummy! I hope there are still some things we can get as snacks.

I've never been to EOS, but after all the reports on here, we just might have to try it. Maybe even our first night there! ;)

Mrs. Darling, you have a way with words! Once again, I laughed AND cried at your update. Michael and John hitting the "spa" tub made me laugh. We just spent time at Disney's Hilton Head Island resort, which had the same tub. My DD4 and DN6 thought that was the most amazing thing about the entire trip. OK, maybe a close second to their water slide :)

Saying goodbye to your Disney neighbors made me cry! We have a similar relationship with our old neighbors and we miss them desperately. I'm glad you got to be neighbors for a little while again, too... :goodvibes

So....did you become a DVC member?!?!?!

That's cool you got to see the DVC models!!!! YUM Earl of Sandiwich, love it there!! The goodies from Goofys look YUMMY!!

can't wait to hear you last day, but sad your TR is ending.

Yummy food, shopping, swimming...sounds like a wonderful relaxing day spent with friends despite the rain early on :thumbsup2

The Treehouse Villas look so amazing--wow!!! That was too bad about the rain and not being able to use the pool.:sad2:

Earl of Sandwich sounds so yummy!! We didn't get to try it last trip, we opted for WPE instead but it's definitely on our list, since it seems to get great reviews!!:thumbsup2

Yay!! Goofy's Candy Company! How can you not stop here in DTD for a few treats?? It's too hard to resist:laughing: (at least for us anyway--yum!!;))

Glad you were finally able to enjoy the pool!!:goodvibes

I'm looking forward to your next update, but sad that your TR is almost over.:sad2:

What fun to have such nice Disney friends. It sounds like your families really mesh well.:thumbsup2

I love the wavy railings on the AKL balcony. I know, it doesn't take much to impress me.

Love E of S AND Goofy's. Yumm-O!

:rotfl2: at Michael the Rule Breaker.

The transportation number was on a card my friend had in her wallet. Maybe if she pops in she'll post it for all of us. Where are you Liznboys?;)
Not much beats an EOS and Goofy's night:thumbsup2

Mrs Darling, huh. You can call me Jenny;) It was funny how much they loved the spa tub. Saying goodbye to the Disney family was sad, but I'll see BDF in January and hopefully we'll see the whole family before too long.:goodvibes And we didn't become DVC members on this trip. I'll talk about our plans when I get to my final thoughts so stick around:goodvibes

All good things must come to end. I can't believe I've dragged my report out this long:laughing:

Yummy food, shopping, swimming...sounds like a wonderful relaxing day spent with friends despite the rain early on :thumbsup2
It was a fun, relaxing afternoon and evening. It's nice to have days like that especially after all of our crazy park days:goodvibes

The Treehouse was amazing! Even though it rained it was a great evening. DTD, Goofy's, swimming and great friends:cloud9: And I don't think you'll miss my TR report too much when it's over. You'll be in Disney:woohoo:

Our families really do get along well. Even Wendy enjoys it;) I do see trouble ahead with Michael, our little thrill lover:rolleyes:

Our final Disney Day had arrived. It’s always a bittersweet moment. On one hand I am so happy because of all the wonderful time we’ve spent together making Magical Memories.:) On the other, it’s all over.:sad1: I always try to remember this quote that I think is Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” Because of our late night everyone was still sound asleep when I awoke around 7:30. Wow! I took a quick shower and DH was awake when I finished. We talked for a few minutes and I decided I’d head to Artist’s Palette and pick up breakfast. If we’d spent our whole trip in the villa I’m sure we would have had bought cereal and milk for breakfast each morning, but since we were only there one night that obviously would not have been worth it. So I headed out for the leisurely walk to Artist’s Palette. It was a beautiful morning and I was enjoying the quiet, leisurely pace of Saratoga Springs.:cloud9: It is a beautiful resort that has a more relaxed vibe than the Beach Club. I was impressed with the menu choices at Artist’s Palette. They had way more choices than Beach Club Marketplace. I got the kids some Mickey waffles and a breakfast platter for DH and I to split. They packed it to go and I headed back to our room. The kids were just barely getting up when I returned around 9:00. Wow! I guess the vacation tired them out. We had a leisurely morning planned. Since we were staying at SSR as a test run of sorts we figured we should give ourselves time to see what we thought. So we took our time packing, I sat out on the balcony for a while and we just relaxed. However, in case you hadn’t noticed, as a whole we aren’t a bunch of relaxers. (Though I would like to be.;)) DH and the kids were ready to go and actually do something by 10:00. So we called Bell Services, had them come and pick up our luggage and headed out. I’d seen a list of activities for the Community Center that included making magnets. That sounded like fun and I wanted to check out more of SSR so we headed over to the Community Center. We walked in and the first thing the boys saw was this:
DSC00830.jpg

They had video games.:woohoo: The boys were thrilled because I made them leave their Nintendo DS’s at home. That meant we could stay all day and they would be happy. They also had a TV tuned to the Disney Channel. (Hannah Montana was on) and a ping pong table and board games. In an adjoining room they had the crafts tables set up where the kids painted the magnets. I believe it was $3 each and there were lots of choices. Wendy did a sunflower, John painted a pirate skull, and Michael chose a baseball hat. The boys were done fairly quickly (they wanted to get back to the video games), but Wendy took a bit more time. Here she is hard at work.
DSC00829.jpg

This was a fun activity and if we do ever join DVC I could definitely see us utilizing the Community Center. It was a laid back way to still be doing something. After the kids finished painting their magnets we gave them to the staff to apply the pixie dust. They told us we could come pick them up in a few hours which was just fine because we were catching the Magical Express from SSR so we’d be back. Here are the final products. I think they turned out great and fit right into our magnet collection:goodvibes
disneysouvs004.jpg

After Wendy finished up her magnet she challenged DH to a game of ping pong. Here they are going at it. (Notice Michael in the left hand margin. That is where the video game was.)
DSC00831.jpg

We spent at least an hour in the Community Center and had a great time. However, we still had a day left on our tickets and we were going to use them. Which park did we head to on our last day?

Good morning! :)

We've gotten some bad PhotoPass shots due to the sun being too bright or shadows on some of our faces. We had a really cute family shot from last December with Mickey at Christmas in AK, but poor ds#4's face was whited out due to the sun shining on it (he was lower than everyone else so the rest of us were above where the sun shone). So I have to remember to watch for that in the future when I'm trying to get a good picture. Your AK family picture isn't too bad though. :)

I love all the baby Simba pictures, so cute. I can't remember if we've ever had our boys do them?!

"The Disney Family Treehouse" LOL!! LOVE IT! :thumbsup2

I wish we could have all hung out together at our THV more. It was fun.

LOL I'll never forget all 11 of us in our minivan!!!:laughing:

Yeah, it's going to be interesting staying in that BLT studio. I know it'll be fine for the two of us, but I'm not so sure how well that would work with a family.

That was so funny how you called and then that DTD bus pulled right up!! I remember the people around being amazed at that. lol

Did you see my post(s) on the Restaurants/DDP boards about the Goofy's Treats? I posted the form we got last Sunday and what we were told about the snacks on the DDP. Things have definitely changed, at least for now.

Look at all your yummy treats! :goodvibes

“Dad, sometimes it’s fun to break the rules.” :rotfl: This cracked up dh and I!!!

That was a very fun evening at the pool... :grouphug:

Neat that you guys made magnets! They look great! I love Wendy's choice, sunflowers are my favorite flower. :goodvibes

Boys do love those video games, huh?! lol

What a fun looking gathering place. I love the baseball cap magnet, especially covered in pixie dust!

Can't wait to see what your final park is.

Wow!!! That was really worth the wait!!! The treehouses look wonderful!! I am glad you enjoyed SSR. So far that is the only DVC we have stayed at (with developer points). Next month is our first trip "home" to AKV.

Love the magnets! They are great!! My grandson was just turned 3 on our first stay at SSR and he wanted to paint a car in the community center. It was for age 6 and up, but they very sweetly let him participate!! One of the highlights of his 1st trip for sure!!

I enjoyed AP, but since we were in congress park both times we got spoiled by WPEC for breakfast (when we rarely had it) or dinner. I think we ate ther 5 times between breakfasts and dinners on our 9 day trip. The walk was so relaxing and quite pretty too! We even enjoyed it in the rain!:goodvibes

My grandson turns 4 on Sunday and Dad's birthday is Tuesday. Dad is getting PS3 and Connor is getting Wii. Two guesses what Connor will want to be doing next month.;)

I can't believe your trip is almost at an end. Boo! Guess you need to start your 1-10 pre trip report.;):lmao:

I love the relaxing morning you had. Those magnets turned out nice. It's great that you didn't feel the need to rush, even knowing it was your last park day.

I am letting my boys bring their DSs because they will NEED them in the car (and I will need for them to have them). There's a good chance they will be put away in the room, though.

Can't wait to see where you are headed!
