Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

So you plan on using DME only one way, from your resort to the airport? Very easy answer, then ... you can wait until you are there in WDW. At least 2 days from your last day, go to your resort's front desk and request a DME reservation for the ride back to the airport; they'll even print you out your bus vouchers. It's really that simple.

But if you want to sew it up in advance, call DME directly at 866-599-0951.

But just remember, if you are going only one-way from resort to airport, there's no need for DME luggage tags or anything like that.

THANKS this is why I LOVE this board!

I even called to make sure they had the info correct and was told by the CM on the phone "Yup its all correct" and the papers came in Thursday and it is all wrong! ..............:headache:

Hi - We are leaving in 3 days for our trip.......We have never used the DME luggage service before. I want to but I am a bit nervous about my luggage getting lost. Does this happen? And if so how do I go about finding it?

Thanks for any info.

It may help you feel better about DME luggage service to know that the DME luggage tags have barcodes, and each barcode is scanned 5 separate times between airplane and inside of resort room. In addition, the dedicated DME luggage delivery trucks are tracked by GPS. In other words, Disney knows where your bags are at all times.

Have there ever been delays? Sure ... no system is perfect. But overall, it's a fantastic system that is very very popular. It's been around since May of 2005 and there have not been any consistent or widespread luggage problems.

And DME has a much better track record with luggage than the airlines do.

We are staying at POP and arriving extra late. Our flight is supposed to arrive at 9:30, which would be before the deadline of 10 o clock arriving flights. I am confused on what will happen to our luggage since it is so late but still before the deadline. Will it be brought to us in the middle of the night? Brought to us the next morning? Will it be somewhere that I could just pick it up in the morning? I am just trying to figure out our best plan of action on what to do if we want to get our own luggage or let DME take care of it. TIA!

If your flight arrives ontime, before the 10:00 cut off, your bags will be brought to your resort..POP. But, the baggage people may not be on duty at POP when the bags arrive...they may very well be stored until the next morning. I would be sure to pack anything that is needed for the night in your carryon, and anything for first thing in the morning. That way, if your bags don't get to you until the next morning, you will have what you need to start the day.
If it were me, I would be very tempted to not tag the bags and get them myself upon arrival. At least you would have them that night and not be worried about their arrival.

That is what I keep telling my Mom. But she thinks that it willl add extra time at the airport. My theory is its going to be so late at night not a lot of people will be arriving anyways so I am sure it won't take too much longer!

Here's the thing...you can wait the 20 mins or so to get your bags right at MCO. Or, you can hope they get to you that night, before you turn in. More likely that they won't get to you until the next morning. I don't think 20 mins is a huge amount of time to wait. But, moms can be stubborn.

Could some of us wait for luggage and meet them at the bus while the others went to check in at DME? Or do we all need to be there to check in?

That won't work. Once you check-in, you are expected to get into the bus queue.

Only one person from each party is PERMITTED to be in the check-in line. But since you are arriving at 9:30 p.m. or so, you won't have a big wait ... it won't save you any time to have one person check-in and then wait for the luggage-getters.

Thanks so much for answering me so quickly......but, one more thing. When exactly does the luggage become DME's responsibility?
We are leaving from newark so is continental responsible until the bags reach orlando?

Continental is responsible for the bags until you land at MCO. As soon as your bags come off the plane, the yellow luggage tags will be spotted and the bags will be pulled out at this point. This is when DME becomes responsible for them...when they get to the baggage area at the airport.

We received ME tags today, but they are not ours. They are for the same last name but different dates and hotel and guests.

We had originally booked the same hotel and dates as this person with a travel agent but then canceled and booked directly with Disney.

I opened the package thinking that the messed up the first name, (my husband and the other guest share the same 1st initial), since the address was correct. This may answer why people are not receiving there packages, they are being sent to the wrong addresses:confused3.

I am about to contact ME and let them know about the mistake. We are renting a car so it doesn't matter about ours.

No kidding! My first - no, wait, my second - DME trip, my packet went to my address but with a Kentucky zip code. Never showed up here. Neither did the second packet the TA requested. Finally, and almost at the last minute, a third shipment got sent directly to me, overnighted by Disney.

We have never stayed at a resort nor used any of Disney's services. We were to be lodged at the ASMo. Astonishingly we receivd word that our entire group has been upgraded to the GF! We have already received our luggage tags(one yellow and one green) and are concerned that our luggage make it to the upgraded location. It was recommended that we do not place the green tags but only the yellow which contain the barcode. The green tags only identify our group and initial destination. Is this a proper procedure?

Believe me, the only sound at the meeting when this was announced was that of jaws dropping to the floor. Then shrieks from the parents and daughters who knew what this meant. When we are dropped of at the concierge’s desk to sign in, we will finally realize it's true.:thumbsup2

That's awesome! So your group paid for it? Not Disney doing this? ?

This could be because Disney overbooked the AllStars and had to move some to another resort. Or, the group organizers decided to move the group. Since I"m not part of the group, I can't be sure. But it isn't a 'normal' occurance.

As for the luggage tag question..yes, just use the yellow ones, with the bar code. They are all you need. Even if the resort is incorrect on the tag, the bar code will have the correct info.

Diane, thank you for your response.Yes this fabulous upgrade is due to an overbooking at ASMo. Our entire block of 24 rooms has been upgraded to the GF! We are still in shock! 0ur daughters will be performing at the Waterside Theartre in DTD on Wednesday. This is our first time staying on property and we are astonished at our luck with the unexpected upgrade.

At the moment I am waiting to get my wife discharged from the ER. She ran afoul of some poison oak and woke up this morning with her face almost swollen shut. After an IV and three syringes of drugs she is much improved.
