The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Gretchen, sending prayers and hugs out to you and your family.

Kathy, thinking of you and Johnny. Add me to the list of readers who were in tears reading your post about Johnny and the pic. Luke saw me crying and hugged me, boy how fast they grow. Xoxo.

Okay I hate car dealers!!!! We were narrowing in on making a deal yesterday, when DH's pager went off to go to work. The dealer almost dropped dead right there after negoiating a couple of hours with us. I had my red flags going off that the deal wasn't a good one but. Once, we left DH & I discussed further and decided it was a good thing he got called in. Everything happens for a reason and the more we talked there were things that the dealer was trying to screw us over on. The dealer called DH at night asking when we would be in to sign papers...DH was comical, it was a funny call. Needless to say we told him to take his deal and stick it were the sun doesn't shine!!:lmao:

If all goes well, we are going to talk to a toyota dealer tonight about a Sienna. I hope they can work an affordable deal, now I have my heart set on this minivan.

WFD- Chicken divan casserole that I made yesterday and never got to cook or eat because we were out so long.

Good Morning! I am a cranky girl today. Tom woke me up in the middle of the night and I could not go back to sleep. Finally did about 5ish and overslept and now my day is not going to be what I intended. I did get some decisions made for our November trip...as far as renting a stroller and car seat...started calculating how much formula, food, diapers etc the baby will need, etc.

Tonight we are having meatloaf (that I had in the freezer), taters and a veggie.

Have a great day all! I will be back if I can get caught up here.

Good Morning All,

Gretchen, I woke up wth you on my mind.

Kat, Kyle is going to have a great time with the "boys" & his new apartment. Crying when you leave is 100% allowed.

Ellen, I'm loving your TR. Your in my thoughts & prayers, I know you have some changes & adjustments right around the corner.

Steph, wow school is here already! Where did the summer go?

Bethany, there is always a learning curve when you start any new job & people know that. You have time to adjust before the kids arrive.

Thank you everyone for asking about our trip & the warm welcome home. We loved Bermuda, the water, beaches, people & cocktails were outstanding! The boat left much to be desired but the time with people I love & new friends was just wonderful. I will post pictures on FB this week.

Dinner last night was homemade chicken fingers, sauteed spinach & baked french fries. We broke open one of the rum cakes I brought home from Bermuda...banana rum. The rum content is so high they won't sell or allowing tasting from minors. We have a giner rum & chocolate rum cake waiting......we'll break it open next time we have guests.
Tonight dinner will be concert fare, Greg & I are going to see Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Lily's appointment went ok.....they took her blood pressure (something I've never seen before on a pup) & the vet concluded that her bp was fine so that has nothing to do with her eyes. The vet is calling the opthamologist & it seems we will be going for an appt., her eyes still had to reaction to light.
Her ears were better so I'm pleased about that but her eyes have me really worried.
Hugs & prayers for all that need them. I'm sorry I'm not up on everything.

We took Luke for the first time at 5 months and he has been 7 times already.
I was so nervous the first time calculating in everything I was going to need for him. Once you do it once the next trip will be a breeze. Things I loved when travelling formula powder sticks, disposable bibs, disposable changing pads, and microwave sterilization bags to clean bottle/pacifiers. I also brought my own sheet for the pack & play. Make sure you pack motrin and a thermometer. Also Target has a pack a grab and go bags in their travel section, these are great for soiled clothes and dirty diapers. Don't know who you are flying but Jet Blue has a changing table in their rest rooms which was great. You are going to love the Baby Care Centers in the parks.

Isn't it just funny how things turn out. Sometimes we just have to walk away. I hope it all works out in the end.

Good Morning! I am a cranky girl today.

I hope your day gets better and a nap is somewhere in there.

Gretchen ~ sweetie, my heart is just breaking for you. Please know we are all here for you. It sounds like many of us have been in a similar situation. I lost my dear sweet Momma on New Years day of 2005. Very unexpected. I left her feeling fine, kissed her goodnight and she was gone 2 hours later. What a shock. 5 months later my Daddy was diagnoised with Lung cancer. We had Hospic and they were wonderful. Daddy passed June 12. I was able to say good bye. Which in itself was hard but was so much easier. Please let us help through this. We all can help. Please know my thought and prayers are with you all.

Bethany ~ You will be just fine. They have no idea what a gem they have in you young lady.

Nancy ~ I hope Buddy starts feeling better. Please let us know if we can help. I just hate it when my man hurts. I do also.

Kat ~ Kyle's Apartment lookes amazing. I am sorry to say that Matthew is NOTHING like this. He has a house that he is sharing with 2 other guys and a Girl. He is NOT to excited with the girl being there. She is a Girlfriend of one of the other boys. Oh well she is paying her 1/4th so what can I say. Good luck my friend - We shall get through this!!

Maria ~ Enjoy your concert. I just love CS&N, still have all of the albums. Prayers to Lily that all starts to get better. Our fur babies are so important to us.

Well Doug turns 50 today. He made me promise that nothing would be done for his birthday, so I am not even fixing his usual birthday dinner and cake. I have Bunko tonight and have to be gone by 7 so he really isn't getting much. His choice, but I hope secretly he isn't dissapointed. Matthew still can't chew much more than a scrambled egg and I feel if I fixed a big meal he would kill me. So Doug's Birthday dinner will be with the whole family this weekend.
So with all of that being said . . .
WFDT ~ his 2nd favorite meal ~ Chicken Alfredo, garlic bread and a green salad.

Make it a great day!

Hello everyone! I am back from Bermuda. We had a great time!
I read back and caught up with everyone's posts.

Gretchen, I will be keeping you and your dad in my thoughts.

Kathy, reading about Kyle's apartment setup is bringing back some memories of college for sure! All the boys I knew were horrible housekeepers! Even John. I remember the first time I went to his apartment (shared with four other guys) I was so appalled! I wanted to clean is SO badly but restrained myself since we were only dating and I did not want to seem bossy.

Bethany, good luck at the new school!

Ann, I hate car dealers too!! I actually refuse to go, I make John go and buy the car by himself.

Ellen, happy birthday to Doug!

Here is a photo of last night's dinner. It is shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce with capers, currants, fidelius, and pine nuts. I didn't have any fresh herbs to garnish with, since we didn't get home until 6 PM last night, and I was too tired to go to the food store.

Tonight I am making a green goddess chicken salad recipe that was on the cover of this month's Food and Wine magazine.

I hope I didn't come off as being critical of her. If so, I didn't mean it that way at all. I haven't had my husband for a 10th of those years, but I can't imagine my life without him. I just meant that she is handling it differently than the rest of us.

Oh no, you didn't at all!

Car dealers are so shady. I hope you find a fairly honest one and get that minivan soon!

I hope the eye issue is nothing

Happy birthday Doug!! :dance3:

Hello everyone! I am back from Bermuda. We had a great time!

Glad you're back!!

My GI office called again this morning and said that my prescription drug company approved the wrong medication - that was the hold up. It took her 3 calls and a supervisor to even figure that out! :headache: So, now they say it'll be out without 24 hours. Yeah, right. I'll believe it when I see it!!

We are going out tonight. No food left in the house and haven't had time to shop yet.

I'm at work, our computer system is down so I'm trying to catch up here, sorry if I miss anything....

Okay I hate car dealers!!!!

There is nothing I hate more.:headache:

I'm so sorry you're not having a good day.

Well Doug turns 50 today.

Happy Birthday Doug !!!!!

Maria- I agree with the others, after that luxury cruise you just took all other ships will suffer in comparison for a while. Friends and family make up for accommodations any day though!

It sounds like Lily is getting very good care, I never knew that you could take a BP on a pup.

Ellen- Happy Birthday to Doug! We move birthday celebrations around all of the time. How is Mathew today?

Ann- Dan and Erica were thinking about a new vehicle but after several conversations with the dealer they just left and told him to forget it. He reneged on several things he promised so Dan was fed up.

Becky- Welcome home! I cannot believe you cooked dinner on the night you got in, we usually need to pick up take out

I am trying to clean a bit, I usually have everything in order and the floors are clean but this week :confused3 My floors are really dirty! And the sills are . I cannot open the windows while they are so yucky!

Welcome home Becky!! I can't wait to hear all about it.

Matthew is better today and back to work. Thanks for asking Nancy. It was a rough weekend and Sunday he was in a lot of pain. Funny thing though. We have already gotten 2 bills from the Surgeon. One the very next day - they must have mailed it before we left the office. One yesterday and Doug just called me and another one arrived today. Funny huh? I think they are afraid I won't pay them. I have insurance and they demanded 1/2 up front so I really think this is very strange. Oh well! :confused3

Ann -- I've never dealt with car dealers, but I am sure I wouldn't like them.

Kathy -- Kyle's apartment complex is very impressive!

Ellen -- Happy Birthday to Doug! One time, on a big birthday (maybe it was his 50th), my dad told my mom he didn't want any big dinner or celebration, so she just got some baklava for dessert. He was really mad! I hope Doug isn't.

Aimee -- I hope you get your medications soon.

Stephanie -- Your kids start school early! We're not even done summer activities until the end of next week.

It's so nice being able to have a relaxing dinner and not worrying about running out to baseball. Dinner was grilled steak, corn on the cob, green beans and bread.

Hey y'all, I knew this was coming, I've been crying all afternoon. I'm sure what I'm feeling is normal but I sure could use some reassurance. I've been "Kyle's Mom" for twenty years and that's who I am and what I do. I'm not sure what I will do when he's gone, I feel like my job is done and I have nothing else. I know this sounds depressing, I'm really sorry for babbling on about this.

Kathy be proud of the great job you have done raising him. He sounds like an awesome gentleman.

Kathy- you are normal. I think that we invest ourselves in our kids, take our responsibilities as parents seriously, spend so many years answering to Mom or being Kyle's Mom. They start to fly and then what? For me, it was when Dan flew that it really hit me. So many Mom's were counting the days til the kids left and I was trying to figure out how to keep them home. I was a mess.
I cried for 6 months before he graduated and then I just kind of retreated after that. I cleansed houses so I did not have a network of women who I cold share this with and Buddy and I were not getting along so that summer was horrible. You know that I was a basket case when Marisa asked her friends to call me when she was away on vacation "because my Mom as no friends".

Marisa enrolled me in a nail class with her and I started doing nails a few days a week. It made all the difference. Not the work, but I needed the women around me. So.....remember that you have this wonderful network of women here, all who either know how you feel or know that they are going to feel the same way as you do and way too soon. Call me, I can assure you that I was pretty pathetic so I am impressed that you are holding up as well as you are.

Dinner was :confused3 Buddy wanted the leftover burgers so I coked a few more because Kady is here. I had eggs and an English muffin. We told her that we would take her out for ice cream but she wanted to stay home and have a Fudgesicle

The Dr thinks that Buddy has a kidney stone. He needs to go for some bloodwork tomorrow, an Xray on Thursday and back to her on Monday

Nancy Load Buddy up on lemonade. If it is a kidney stone it will help break it down so it will pass. I hope it is small enough to pass. I had a few of those puppies or elephants. Thats what it felt like. I think I might have them again so I am drinking and drinking until I slosh.

Kathy :hug:I am sure I'll be in that same boat when Alex wants to leave. By the way you are still Kyle's mom you always will be.

Has Vickie stopped in lately or did I just miss her?

Tonight was leftover Flank steak made into fajita's with rice and fruit. I think I bought too much fruit.;)

Oh Nancy I'm sorry I hope Buddy gets through it without to much pain.
