Question for those who've visited WDW in the early autumn

Hi!

I was wondering if those of you who've been to WDW during late August and throughout September and October, if you've encountered a problem with yellowjacket wasps/hornets?

I'm absolutely TERRIFIED of them, and my kids are allergic to them. :scared1:

I just wondered if they're a problem during that time like they are here in Wisconsin?

I wouldn't want to plan my vacation during a time like that, when the smell of food, and garbage cans and all of that attract them all the more, and that is all found throughout WDW.

I wanted to try going during the free dining/low rate season next year, but I hesitate because of this. I usually either make my vacations in the spring or early winter, when the hornets are typically not around.

I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I have been to WDW 3 times in the fall

1 mid August
1 early Sept
1 late Sept

I have never noticed any wasps, bees, or yellow jackets on my trip. Not saying there aren't any but I haven't noticed any.

Hi-
I have also been a couple of times in September and had no issues with wasps or bees. I am deathly scared of wasps, but I am immune to bee stings so everyone else around me screams and I just smash them or swat at them since I never feel pain, just the prick they are going in my skin. I hate doing this so I would have remember, now in May one year they were horrible and I had to do this several times for my panicky DD neice and nephew.

I think the late afternoon rainstorms drown them all. :rotfl: Seriously though I've been at that time and can't say I even remember seeing one.

Been to Disney many times in September, October and November and don't ever recall seeing any.

Now there was one time years ago when we camped in Ft. Wilderness during a gypsy moth invasion. That was kind of creepy.

Thanks for all the replies!

Here, if we went to a place where they served food and people were eating outdoors, etc, like a fair or a theme park, there'd be wasps ALL OVER the place! They'd swarm all the garbage cans and the food establishments.

I'm afraid of bees too, but it's the wasps that are most aggressive and can sting over and over without dying. Those are the ones I'm worried about.

It's so bad here that I don't even like to be outside in August, September and October. But then, I'm VERY freaky about wasps.

I'm more OCD than the average person who's afraid of bees. I'm admittedly extreme, but I wouldn't want to take a trip during the height of yellow jacket season, ya know?

Thanks so much!

I've been late September/early October and I've never noticed any bees or wasps. Lovebugs, yes. But things that sting, no.

You should be fine!

Been to Disney all months and never remember seeing a wasp/bee/hornet. Disney does a great job with bugs. We went during love bug season and they were EVERYWHERE outside the park, and I was amazed that I didn't see one inside the parks at all. They must spray something good in the morning.

My wife gets bit by mosquitoes constantly, but never heard her complain at disney at night.

I have to say also that I don't recall seeing any bees or wasps on any of my trips and I've gone all different times. We did have a problem with flies at Fort Wilderness in June, not only on the food but they really bit up my legs! I have had mosquito bites.

Thank you for asking this. I am allergic to bees and wasps but this is something I hadn't thought of. I live in a small town where no matter where I am in town, I am only 4 minutes away from the hospital, so I don't worry so much at home, but I always carry an epi-pen when I travel. It's good to hear that I won't really have to worry (I will still have my epi-pen of course.)

I am also terrified of them.

And as nasty and hostile and plentiful they are around here, they are NOT down there, and we have gone yearly for 10+ years.

Yay! :yay: Bee-Free!
