I Paid Someone $5 for a Catchy Trip Report Title, and This is All I Got-Updated 12/29

After picking up the Kim Possible Kim-municator in Norway the ladies met James and I in Germany and we went to Biergarten. Our ADR was for 1:00 and we were about ten minutes early. After waiting about a minute, we were seated and Axel, our server, introduced himself. We gave him our drink orders and made our way to the buffet. Here’s my first plate where I got a taste of the various salads, pretzel bread, and a couple of sausages.

James asked if I wanted to take a picture of his plate, so I said, “sure”. I thought his selections were kind of funny. He’d filled his plate and had barely made it out of the salad section of the buffet, except for a meatball and some kind of gelatinous meat mixture that I knew he wouldn’t like. He didn’t. :crazy2:

Here’s a shot of Judy and Marlene with the flash off so you can get a sense of the room. I have a better shot of the room coming up a few pictures down.

Here’s my second plate, where I’ve worked my way down the buffet line a little further. I had a meatball, salmon, some potatoes, cheese spaetzle with glazed onions, applesauce, and weiner schnitzel. Allears.net lists it as “Schnitzel Weiner Art (Breaded Pork Schnitzel Vienna Style)”. I’ve had the good fortune to visit Vienna (actually my DW earned the trip for us through her direct-selling business) and try their schnitzel (Wien = Vienna), which is pounded down more, until about half the thickness of this one and it would have taken up the whole width of the plate. But this one was good enough to bring the memory back to my mind, and while I just sampled some of the other items I took, I ate all of this baby. Looking at this picture, it looks like James had already started on dessert. I didn’t remember that -- I was just getting started! I think that’s vanilla pudding with chocolate chips in the upper-right of the picture.

I wanted to make sure that we got to see the oom-pah band, Oktoberfest Musikanten, so that’s part of the reason why I made our ADR time for 1:00, I had seen on a Disney World entertainment website that they started at 1:15, so I figured that would give us time to begin eating and then enjoy the entertainment. And right on cue…

img_0705.jpg

Here’s a good shot of the overall room. Leave it to Disney to be able to make you feel like you’re outside, at night, in Germany, enjoying Octoberfest. The theming even included a full moon.

Marlene started on dessert. This was like a berry concoction (looking at allears.net I think it’s called “Rote Gruetze with Vanilla Sauce”, although she didn’t get the sauce) and Blackforest Cake. She loved them both, but especially the berry concoction.

Lauren enjoying herself.

Here’s Judy’s dessert sampler. The item in the upper left was a strawberry-rhubarb kind of thing. I don’t see it listed on allears.net. Then going around the plate: apple strudel, Bavarian cheese cake, and Blackforest cake. Judy loved the cheesecake. It had a different consistency than the cheesecake we’re used to -- it was creamier.

img_0709.jpg

The band began their “beer barrel battle of the bells”, or maybe it was “battle of the beer barrel bells”. I don’t know. I think I’ve got all the right words in there, just not sure about the order.

I went to get dessert and a guy in the band started playing this Alphorn. Judy took this picture. I think it’s her only one of the trip.
Sorry, but I can’t look at this picture and not think, “Ricola!” :rotfl2:

Partway through our lunch an older couple was seated with us. They lived in Forth Worth, TX and the wife grew up in Germany, so she carried on a little conversation with Axel. I’m jealous of people who can speak multiple languages fluently. Anyway, when I came back from getting my dessert, the husband asked if I would like him to take our picture. It’s one of my favorites from the trip.

And lastly, my dessert sampler. The apple strudel was good, but I think my favorite was the cheesecake also. ::yes::

We all really enjoyed our meals. I would definitely eat here again. :thumbsup2 After we returned home, Judy told me that this was one of her favorite meals of the trip, but then added "after Boma, of course" since Boma is one of our all-time favorites.

In the next installment: Club Cool’s Beverly and wrap up the day.

Sounds like a great time. I can so relate to being on the wrong line in the grocery store. I never go on the shortest line any more. I hopefully have learned my lesson.:lmao:

Later on in the trip I get behind some Brazilian tour group people getting fastpasses. Fortunately, they don't grocery shop where I do!

OML they are the worst. I'm sorry you had to get behind them. Great pictures of the inside. This is one place we have never gone. The inside remindes me of some of the little towns my parents would drive through when daddy was stationed over there. The train in Germany is from the town we lived in, Wurzburg. My little bro was born there. Loving the TR can't wait for more.

oh man, I sure miss that pretzel bread!!!!!!

It's not my fav of the Epcot restaurants but they do have some good things and the music is pretty neat too!!!!

The inside of the restaurant looks lovely. Have never eaten there and had no idea it was themed like that. That is a great family shot.

Great Updates - loving all your pictures! We love Biergarten also... We only have 59 days until we return and can't wait.

Looking forward to the next installment!

I didn't realize that the train was modeled after a specific one. Thanks for the info.

So far it's my favorite, but I haven't hit some of the "biggies" yet, like Le Cellier or Chefs de France.

Thank you! Do you have an ADR for Biergarten on your upcoming trip?

I have never eaten at Biergarten's but I am sure I would like it but don't think my kids would. They aren't adventurous with food. Sounds like you all had a great meal. Great pics also.

I've recently read many reports of places I've never eaten at. Your pics and descriptions of Biergarten are very helpful to one who has never eaten there. Thank you.

the squinting eyes in many of the outdoor pix...hot, hot, hot and very sunny........and still you all have smiles on your faces...:thumbsup2

I don't think it's too adventurous, but I realize that's in the eye of the beholder. When I was a kid I thought fish was too adventurous. Fortunately, I grew out of that.

That's hard to believe with all the trips you've taken Jordan. Thanks, and it's my pleasure.

Yes, it was hot and sunny and difficult to keep your eyes open for a picture, but we were in Disney! :cool1:

I know. Your pictures show how beautiful it is inside! Who knew? Well, unfortunately, the whole gang has input into where we eat, so we'll see if it makes the cut.

A bad day in Disney is better than...........just about anything.

Biergarten is one of my families favorties! My boys love the food there and I'd go just for the pretzel bread. Plus, it gives me a chance to bring out my rusty high school German.

I can see how it can be a family favorite. I'm sure we'll want to go back.

:welcome:
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it! And I'm jealous of your upcoming trip. How many days will you be there for?

Thanks for reporting in from North America's most easterly city!

Thanks!
I've 14 nights: 10 at POR and 4 at YC (orig 8 at POP, and 6 at YC).
Dined at Boma and PrimeTime (among others) last Sept and will include Ohana and Biergarten with others this trip.

Trying not to wish my summer away!
As of today I can now say "next month"! Woo Hoo!

Yes we will be having lunch one of the days at Biergarten... I can't wait!

CW4DW, I noticed that you seem to have stayed almost exclusively at POR!
Do you try for a certain room/building/section every trip, or just stay wherever they place you?

Awesome! Hopefully my TR has helped to whet your appetite.

Thanks!

Wow, that's going to be a fantastic trip...14 nights!

CW4DW definitely appears to be the POR expert -- 3 stays in the last couple of years and 2 more planned for later this year! I'd like to hear from CW4DW too.

WalkingintheFog, how many of you are there? If you need a bed to sleep a fifth person (trundle bed), they are only available in the Alligator Bayou section. Other than that, the AB theming is a little more rustic (like a sharecropper's quarters) and the Magnolia Bend theming is a little more elegant (like a plantation house). We've been happy with where they've assigned us for our 2 stays.
