The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Oh no! Please keep us updated.

Bethany please watch her.....did you call the ER doctor?
Lily was stung in the eye by a wasp & her poor face blew up in seconds, we were very lucky that her vet was opened, steroids & Benydryl for her with that vet trip. She was running to come into the house & ran right into a wasp. Please keep us posted.

I couldn't get through earlier between 5 and 6, when the swelling was getting worse. It was getting worse slowly, but it was obviously getting worse. Since I couldn't get a hold of the vet, I called my friend who has 4 dogs and whose DD is the one at LSU Vet School - the ones I got Anabelle from. She said I could give her liquid Children's Benadryl and how much to give her. I gave her that and the swelling has gone down considerably. I can give another dose 6 hours apart, and I'll call the vet in the morning.

She is acting her usual feisty self now; I'm still keeping an eye on her but I'm much less worried about her. For awhile I was worried she would have trouble breathing....which is why I had her on my lap - to feel her breathing.

On a different topic...you foodies will be so proud of me. I was watching an show on tv where they were interviewing Ralph Brennan. :rotfl:

So glad to hear she's doing better!

Kathy, You know I'll be praying for your family. Call me if you need me.

Bethany, Keep a close eye on her tonight! We've had a lot of dogs & I've never had one have a reaction to vaccinations.

Bethany How is your little one today. Make sure your vet knows about the reaction. My stepmoms cat used had a bad reaction to one of the vaccines. How big is she now?

Maria I watch Chopped. I love that whole channel.

Kathy Sorry about your SIL.

Merle that is such a sad story :littleangel:
I got a grilling cookbook at the library last night so I guess I'm looking for good weather this weekend so I can try out some of the recipes.

Tonights dinner is whatever I find at Costco.;)

I started replies three times yesterday but life got in my way. The last time Life was Buddy. I am sorry that I did not reply, all of my quotes are goner.

Kat-- I am so sorry to hear your DIL's story. She is in my prayers, as is your entire family. So sad :sad1:

Bethany I am glad Annabelle is better now. So scarey!

Maria- I wish we could vote for Emily like they do on So You Think You Can dance! I know she is going to make that final cut though :thumbsup2

Sheryl- Be Careful!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that I :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:picturing Kat, Sheryl and Bethany. Yup...one month and you are already a NOLA gal!

Good Morning! Quick check in...

I am a bit sleepy this morning. Maybe too much wine and Tom woke me at 3am not feeling well (allergy related - but thank God he was OK) and I could not get back to sleep.

Kathy, I am so sorry for your SIL...I will keep everyone in my prayers. Please call me for anything/anytime. I may not post alot here lately but I am always reachable. Love you.

Maria, Congrats to Emily. How great! I hope Lily is OK.

Bethany, How is Ms Anabelle today?

Marilyn, Noah's story is so sad. I pray for his family.

Laura, Yes, Andrew is going to the baseball camp in Williamsport, PA next week. Maybe I will reclaim my house then!

***
Hugs to everyone! Have a great day. We are supposed to have heavy rains with flooding...YAY! Dinner will be bisquick pot pie.

Lauren, I hope Tom has some relief from his allergies today.

Kat, prayers for your SIL. So sad.

Maria, congrats to Emily. You must be so proud!!!! :cheer2:

Bethany, glad your furbaby is better.

Staying home today to try to get something accomplished. I have lots of cleaning to catch up on, and I would love to maybe bake some cookies if the kids cooperate.

Not looking forward to weekend b/c DH is on-call again. Last time he was on-call we could not do a darn thing without the phone ringing.

Not sure WFD, I have a bag of frozen shrimp I would like to cook... I am thinking scampi saute or honey mustard skewers on the grill.

Hey y'all I'm asking for prayers, here's a little background. Three years ago my sister-in-law lost her son at age 19 to drugs. Within a year she and her husband divorced and she was drinking heavily and on pain pills. She is now dying, her liver is shot. From what the doctors told us a little while ago she doesn't have much time so please keep her in your prayers.

Adding her & you to our prayers

Aimee -- I'm glad you're feeling a little better today. You are more restrained than I would be...if I had a sore throat, I would be drinking milkshakes (frappes, here) all day..

I have drunk more iced mochas, lattes, and coffees than I care to admit :rolleyes1

I can totally relate!! This is probably the most upset I have ever been at my family. 2 years ago we went to Rome. I had been before, but Doug, Matthew and Stephanie hadn't. I was so excited to show them one of my favorite cities. We walked through the streets and came out onto the Parthanon. It just takes my breath away. I am standing there looking at it and I turn around and all 3 of them have their back to it and lovingly looking at a McDonalds. Right across from the Partnanon. WTH!!!! :confused3
Now mind you we had been on a 2 week cruise in the Mediterranean with wonderful food so I guess a McDonalds did look good to them but they were in Rome at the Parthanon. I lost them, before I could even say anything, they were in that line ordering Cheeseburgers and fries. They ate outside and I sat with my back to them enjoying my view of the Parthanon. I was so mad at them!!!

I can relate to that. My very first cruise we were in St. Thomas and as we passed a KFC I suddenly wanted some so badly. I think it was because we had been eating so much "fancier" foods I wanted some good "Home" cooking. :rotfl:

I sorta drooled when I found a Starbucks in Nassau...

You got 'em! How is she today?

I had a multi-quote going but had to abandon it and run to Walgreens for children's benadryl because Anabelle is having an allergic reaction to her shots. Poor baby. I hope she is okay. The vet is closed (at 5) and the emergency clinic their phone system patches to is not open until 6. :scared:

Her face is all swollen along with other spots on her body and she is really really lethargic. :sad1:

How is Miss Anabelle today? Was that her first round of shots? Which ones did they give her?

I read through some of that the other night before he died. :sad1:

DH comes home from the last camp of the summer today :yay: You know I miss him now, by next week I will be wishing he was gone again

If I have time to grocery shop after a funeral we have this afternoon, I'll cook. If not, we'll get something out.

WHAT????????? He can't be related to you & Becky!:scared1:

We often joke that is is not related to us! He eats NO vegetables except for potatoes and onions. All he likes is meat, and he could eat the same thing every day and be happy about it.

Last night John had a business dinner so I just made panini. No pictures.

The other night I made an assortment of stuff on the grill. Avocadoes, tomatoes, onions, corn on the cob tossed with lime juice, chili powder, and parmesean cheese. Plus I made jalepeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. Here's a picture:

Sometimes we wonder.

Laura, what town is the Rugged Bear outlet in???

Norwood, MA. To be honest, though, the regular stores have been having huge sales lately, and the prices are about the same. Now if you like Gap Kids clothes, the Gap outlet in Wrentham, MA is worth the trip.

Sheryl -- I'm glad Alexis got to visit.

Kathy -- That is sad news about your SIL. She's in my prayers.

Bethany -- I hope Annabelle is feeling better this morning.

Andrew is going to the baseball camp in Williamsport, PA next week.

I hope he has fun! Today is Liam's last day of baseball camp here in town. He has had a blast.

I am waiting to hear from Liam's coach about whether the team has practice tonight or not. You would think I would know that by now, but I don't. I can't really plan dinner until I know.

I know that I :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:picturing Kat, Sheryl and Bethany. Yup...one month and you are already a NOLA gal!

The three of us have not actually gotten together in person all at once yet. :rotfl2:

How is Miss Anabelle today? Was that her first round of shots? Which ones did they give her?

She is back to normal this morning! :goodvibes Thanks everybody for your concern. :grouphug:

This was her 2nd round; she got the first round up in Baton Rouge before I picked her up. She must not have had a reaction to the first round because they didn't mention it.

It was the Distemper-Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Canine Parvovirus, and Coronavirus. :confused3:confused3 Means very little to me, but that's what the paper says.

She's 6 pounds, 1 ounce now!

Bethany, I'm so glad Anabelle is better:goodvibes

Kat, continued prayers for your family:hug:

Sheryl, I love that you're being pampered. I know it's tough because you do so much for everyone but enjoy it!

Lauren, hope "A" has a blast at baseball camp.

Ann~ I have to tell you I bought a few baby clothes the other day. I bought 12 months so they should fit next summer. How Emma's little bottom? Would love to go to the Gap outlet:banana:

Another day of rain....I was outside for 10 minutes this morning, my garden is beautiful but the weather hasn't allowed anyone to enjoy it.
Today is laundry & maybe I will start to pack. I was much more organized when I worked, now I seem to wait until last minute for packing.

The choreographer is coming to meet Emily at the end of August, the beginning of September. They will sign her for a 6 month contract. If she grows even 1/2 an inch before the contract is signed they will pass on her. I have been asked to be "official stage Mom". My cousin can't leave her PT practice so I will be "stage Mom" which I know I will just love!

Dinner tonight hopefully will be take out.

Hey Y'all,

The Dis is running really slow for me this morning. Maybe it's because I'm in a hurry. Slept late again... & DD is going to take me out to lunch (in her comfortable car) Yeah, I get out of the house!

Maria, I'm excited for you & Emily!:cool1: Prayers that she doesn't have a growth spurt now!

Bethany, I'm glad your puppy is all better! :goodvibes

Sorry about another rainy day for some. :sad1:

Gotta run, BBL!

Was supposed to go see an outdoor movie tonight but they are calling for TS's, not sure what the plan is going to be now.

 I didn't realize he was gone this week. That must have been hard on you with all the tests you had. He owes you some pampering!

I have been asked to be "official stage Mom".

That is great! You will have so much fun. How old is Emily? No growth spurts!

DD is going to take me out to lunch (in her comfortable car) Yeah, I get out of the house!

Have fun!

Bethany -- I'm glad Annabelle is all better.

Well, I still haven't heard anything from Liam's coach, but since it is pouring right now, I am guessing no practice. I have been craving fried clams all week (since I didn't get them Tuesday) so I think I am giving in and getting that. The kids will probably have pizza.

Okay...I read this as you were going to go to an outdoor movie tonight, but someone was calling to make dinner reservations at a table service restaurant instead. Then I got to the part where you didn't know the plan so I realized it was thunderstorms. :lmao:

I knew I should have written that out! :rotfl:

Going to get crablegs tonight. My friend is going to get all of her laundry done tonight so that we can run around tomorrow. Going to go to yardsales and my work picnic is tomorrow night. And I am going to be good and work on getting some stuff cleaned up.

Kathy - Prayers said for your SIL. What a tough situation!

Bethany - I'm so glad Anabelle is doing ok. What a scary thing to have to watch!

Marilyn - Thanks for posting Noah's story. I read it all and bawled and bawled! The pictures of him are so adorable. What a little angel!

Maria - Congrats to Emily! And to her "stage Mom"! Like I said before, I loved Billy Elliot, and your niece is going to have a tremendous time!

Sheryl - I'm glad you are not suffering too many ill effects from Bob's tumble and the cockroach! My heart was in my throat for you, though!

Aimee - I'm so glad that you found some answers! Hopefully, this third medicine will work well for you! You do so much for others, it's about time, something went your way to make life a bit easier for you!

Things here are crazy, as usual! Alan got called in for some overtime this morning (and in this economy, we don't say no to overtime!), and he took Katie with him. I have to say I'm awfully glad! She's been a moody little thing the last couple of days. I really think puberty is getting ready to hit her hard. Should be fun!

Once they get back, we are all planning on a family outing. Don't know where, or what we'll do, but Alan promised that I could get out of the house, without being the only parental unit. Hooray!!! I really need a break!

I don't have any idea what we'll do for dinner. We grilled some chicken last night that I had marinated in sun dried tomato vinaigrette, and it was yummy! I also cut up a summer squash, zucchini, an onion and a yellow pepper and marinated them in the same dressing and we grilled them in Alan's new grill basket. It was a yummy dinner! Today it's much too hot to think about eating! Maybe we'll just pick up something at Costco, or Wendy's while we're out. Who knows!

Have a great day, everyone!
