Another endless golf cart q

I am staying at FW Cabins in December. 2 adults, 3 children (9. 6. 4). We will be spending most (if not all) days at the parks. Do I really need a golf cart to get around FW (to and from the bus stops and marina). The cost is a lot and the only time I can see using it is at night after a long day at the parks. Has anyone stayed in a cabin and been okay w/o a cart or regretted not having one.

Thanks for the info.

I have always had a GC at the cabins. But this last time we rented from Kenny. It was around 230$ with tax for 7 days. If we had to pay Disney prices, we would have not rented. It is way too expensive. This last trip, we were on Loop 2100 at the very very beginning. It was very close to a bus stop and with in walking distance to the pool/bike barn and shopping. So I think it is doable. Just request a certain loop or area on a loop.

We have stayed at the Cabins several times and never used a Golf cart. We have also stayed Campsites many times and no cart. I think its just a personal choice.

We'll be there for 12 days and are not renting a cart. We based on our decision on this question:

Will we get annoyed/upset/mad if we have to wait for a bus in the campground? Our answer - NO.

We don't do commando, we don't stick to a schedule and we won't be on the dining plan. So, we'll use the internal bus system to get around FW and to the marina. Luckily, we'll have our van so we'll drive everywhere else.

I think the cost of a cart is ridiculous. Even the outside guys are over $30 a day. That's a LOT to add to your daily cost. I'm sure it's great and easy to use a cart over the bus, but we'll manage.

With all the discounts Disney offers it's no wonder they try to get their money back on something else. As far as I'm concerned, if I get stuck paying rack rate - they should throw in a golf cart!! Even better, all cabins come with a golf cart no matter what I paid!! :lmao:

Oh yeah, then the GC traffic will be horrible, everyone will complain and they'll be banned!!!!! :rotfl:

If we choose not to get a cart and find it horribly inconvienent (sp?), can we get one during our stay or do you really need to reserve it in advance?

Thanks again.

It depends on when you are traveling. If you will be there in low season, there probably won't be a problem. High season, they do sell out... despite having a SEA of carts.

:santa:

I would reserve a golf cart for 1 or 2 days now for the middle of your visit so you can loop at night to see all the Christmas deco. You can cancel the reservation 24 hours before you are scheduled to pick the cart up if you change your mind.
Also, I just read on another thread, that WDW is wheeling and dealing with rates and one of the rates was for a golf cart. It could be this wheeling and dealing is only for August and September, the slowest months at the Fort, but it might be worth a call to the Fort. Staying at the cabins might be enough to get you a better cart rate....:confused3...maybe.
Good luck.:thumbsup2

If it helps from a cost perspective, there's some info on a couple of great off-site rental companies that are generally a LOT cheaper than Disney HERE.

We are staying in the cabins for a week in June 2010 and just reserved our golf carts. There was no wheeling and deeling to be had. We no longer even get a discount for renting an entire week! Ouch.

Although I agree with many of the posters (you really don't need a cart when on a relaxed schedule), it is a big part of the fun for us. We spend a fair amount of time just driving around the resort, going back and forth to the marina, going to the trading post etc. We also play "Golf Cart Scavenger Hunt" where we look for the highest numbered cart and lowest numbered cart.

Although it is expensive, it is part of the experience for us.

No, you do not NEED a golf car,,but they are fun and enjoyable. After all, the Fort didn't always have golf cars,,how ya spose folk got around then?
