Are dogs allowed to camp with their people in tents? We won't be going until sept. or even oct. with our two dogs. And I have seen that you can have the dogs as long as you don't leave them unattended at the site. We will not be going to the parks while on our vacation since we live in florida we just want to camp and enjoy the things that fort wilderness offers. Anyone with any experience with camping with dogs please help. Thanks

I will have to update my web site. Disney now states teh following on the Fort Wilderness web page

"Pets

Since pets like to go on vacation too, pet-friendly campsites are available. Pets are not permitted in tents or vehicles without air-conditioning."

Good to have a definitive answer on that question straight from the horse's mouth. Thanks!!

Pets are not permitted in tents or vehicles without air-conditioning.

So they are allowed in tents with air conditioning? Or does the "without air-conditioning" qualifier apply only to vehicles? Is it supposed to read:

Pets are not permitted in tents, nor are they permitted in vehicles without air-conditioning.

or

Pets are only permitted in tents or vehicles if they are air-conditioned.

Disney, master of the obscure rule! Either way, it appears that pets are allowed in pop-ups with AC now.

Shan, as usual, makes a good point!

BTW, where in the world have you been? It seems you've been MIA around here.

FWIW, aren't the 1500 and 2000 loops (partial hookups) designated as no pet loops?

Yes 1500 and 2000 have always been no-pet loops. But tent campers are welcome to reserve a site in any loop, including pet loops, if they wish. Even in a pet loop, though, the rule has always been no dogs in tents.

I have been a bit absent... I've had a lot on my place recently. And I have a new mistress... which is to say, another forum that has been dividing my 'spare' time, ClausNET (where :santa:s, Mrs Claus, and the elves get together to talk about all things Christmas). Forgive my infidelety, I still  my DISers!

I had a feeling Christmas was partially to blame for your absence. No need to explain yourself...just my way of letting you know that you've been missed around here.

And just so you know, my family would like a camper for Christmas this year.:flower3:

Wow! I have never heard of a campground that restricts dogs from being in tents or un-airconditioned vehicles!!!!! We tent camped for years - at parks where bears and other wildlife are in abundance and always took our dogs. As long as they are not left in the tent - or an airconditioned RV for that matter - unaccompanied, why do the rule makers at WDW care where your dog sleeps!!!!!

Lawsuit's, lots of people like to sue, maybe you noticed some campgrounds are now restricting what type of dogs you can have with you..

So let me see if I got this right. Dogs are NOT allowed in tents under any circumstance? I saw the info on the website but to me it doesn't give enough information. We will not be going anywhere without the dogs and if we do we will put them in the kennel. I just need to be clear if they can hang out with us during the day on the site and sleep with us when we are there at night. Maybe I should just call and explain and get an answer. Hopefully they will know the REAL rules on dogs. Cause I will be very diappointed if they can't do either one. I will prob not book the site then, because I won't put my dogs in the kennel at night. I refuse. I guess I need to look for ones that they can be in tents with the owners there!!

I took the new wording to mean pets aren't permitted in tents at all, since it doesn't specify "unattended". And IIRC the "no dogs in tents" has always been the official policy at FW - which isn't to say people haven't snuck them in anyway, or that it makes any sense, just that this has been the rule. (Actually, up until this most recent change, it used to say no dogs in tents OR popups)

You can certainly call and ask, but if it were me, I'd be wary of any answer you get. CMs on the phone aren't always the most informed when it comes to this kind of stuff, and getting incorrect info. happens .... a lot. It would really be really lousy if you pulled up to check in and they told you then that the dogs couldn't be at your site.

Good luck, and be sure to let us know what they tell you. I'm sure lots of folks with pets will be interested.

Thanks for your response. I will call them in the morning and ask them to get the RIGHT answer and I will not get off the phone until they can verify the Rules. I surely don't want to break any WDW rules but my dogs are a big part of my life, since i have no kids yet. And would like to vacation with them somewhere. I see why they would have this rule for many saftey reason, but then again if the owner is going to be with them in the tent at night, etc and it's their choice I don't think it should be an issue. Maybe they can have some sort of wavier you can sign to be able to have dogs in tents and popups stating that you will always be with your dog and if something goes wrong or they are found unattended WDW is not responisible and can charge you a fee or something to get people not to do it. Hmmm....

Yay...Christmas in July! :santa:

In some campsites the pets are not allowed and in some campsites they are allowed. hence it all depends upon the campground management.

It seems rather obvious that they dont want dogs in tents.

Since air conditioned tents are not commonly available, I dont think the intention of the poorly written rule was to allows dogs in air conditioned tents.

It seems WDW tried to cover 2 subjects in a single sentence. No dogs in tents. No dogs in un-air conditioned vehicles.

well that's understandable in a way. But have to start seeing where else we can go and have our dogs with us:( sad Anyone know where else you can camp with dogs in FLORIDA?
