Help me understand...PIN code question

I got a pin code a few weeks ago for FD, before the FD became available with a code. I booked Pop Century. Now, I can go to the website, and by booking the same room and tickets the amount is $277 cheaper. I call Disney but they won't let me apply my pin code to the now less expensive room rates. I didn't enter any codes on the website - so how is this doubling the discounts?

My PIN has ended up doing me no good...

You're at Pop. Did you get the regular DDP with your PIN? If yes then the value of your package is better than the value of the free dining available to the public as the new offer only includes the QSDP at Pop.

Are you sure it's the same room? You don't have preferred on one reservation and standard on the other?

Does one include insurance?

If you can book the same package online for cheaper than your PIN then just do that and cancel your previous reservation. Why do you need to actually use the PIN?

I second the other reply in that I think the online quote has something like the difference of trip insurance and/or a preferred room vs a standard room (last night when I was looking at the values, most only had preferred rooms available). Trip insurance for 2 adults is about $140... and depending on the number of days the preferred room can be a good chunk of change (around $18 a day or so).

If your PIN is for DDP rather than QSDP, then you are getting a better deal because you are getting the table service meal vs only counter service. To upgrade your 'free dining GP offer' to the DDP you would have to pay the difference between the two plans.

No difference in the rooms or tickets or anything. If the PIN is truly for FD, then I should be able to book the cheaper room, then apply my PIN for FD, right?

Otherwise, I'm not getting FD, only reduced-price dining. CM says I can't book the cheaper room rates now, and use my FD pin.

Every discount, be it PIN, free dining, whatever, has a certain number of rooms available. It may be that the rooms available for your PIN are all booked already, so that you can't still get the PIN. It may be that all the public free dining code rooms are booked already so you can't get those. Simply because a room is available at POP doesn't mean that it is available for your particular promotion.

That being said, I'd call again. Disney is notorious for having different CMs who give different answers to the same question!

You're still comparing apples to oranges.

I also got the free dining pin. I'm going to assume we got the same thing.

The pin includes the regular DDP at value resorts. The general public (GP) code includes the QSDP at value resorts. Disney does NOT have to give the same room rate for both offers, though I believe it is the same rate anyway.

I still believe that there must be some kind of difference between the two packages whether it's insurance, room type, number of days on the tickets, park hoppers, checkin/checkout dates, something.

Then again, there are more blackout days on the PIN than there are on the GP code. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Like I said, I got the same PIN. We booked at a moderate so once the visa and GP codes came out, my PIN became pointless. One thing it DID get for me though was the ability to book my resort of choice. When I called Friday morning around 10am (visa deal came out Friday morning), my resort was already sold out for the visa deal. The GP deal has the exact same price that I already have, to the penny, when I price it for my current resort so it does feel as though I got a bit cheated out of something special, but only a bit. I'm already past that and I'm obsessing over other details of planning my vacation (boy do I have a long time to continue obsessing :rotfl:).

I'll ask again. Why don't you just book the new deal for the savings and cancel your original reservation if you can get the identical deal for cheaper online?

You said the room rates are now less expensive. You can't add free dining to a discounted room rate.

If I book the cheaper room online, how do I apply the PIN code for free dining?

My guess is the alloted rooms at the Pop for free dining are now gone. So, they have discounted rooms available.

In other words one was a room discount, one was a dining discount. You can't have both. If you can call and book free dining over the phone at the Pop for less than your current trip, then go for it :) Good luck!

I guess I'm confused because I'm not trying to book the Free Dining code. I'm not trying to book the FD offer on the website. I am using a PIN that I received weeks ago. In my mind, that is separate from the FD offers out now. Maybe not. That is just confusing to me that it seems the CM's consider them one and the same.

OK, I think I may be understanding now.

You're looking at the ROOM discount rate online and then trying to apply your pin? Is that right? If it is then you're out of luck. You can not use 2 different deals. You either have to pay rack rate to get free dining (yes even with the pin) or you can get the room discount and then if you still want a dining plan you pay for it.

As I mentioned above, if the room is at all discounted, you can NOT add free dining to it. You can get free dining with a room at rack rate, or add paid dining to a discounted room - but you can't have both a discounted room AND free dining.

Right really your pin and the now GP released pin are really one in the same. It was released to a few weeks ago to test it. Then, they decided to release it to the GP. This does happen from time to time.

Your advantage was having it in hand sooner to take advantage of before the public.
