Anyone bring their bikes to Disney?

We are not planning on getting a car this time down. My bike could serve me well to make the run for a morning coffee. Or just to get out and ride around on a day off. Some must think I am a madman. Well somewhat. Just wondering what peoples experience has been with bringing bikes on property. I don't believe I've seen anyone riding around the property.

Thank you

I think the reason you don't see bikes around is because the roads are not bike friendly. However, they do rent bikes at Fort Wilderness for use there.

You are right, I did not think about how some of the roads have no breakdown lane.

Hmm... next Disney project, install bike paths. :thumbsup2

Would you be bringing your bike on the plane?
At OKW we do ride bikes but contrary to bringing our bikes, feasable since were from Florida, we still just rent them. My son love the "Family Bicycles" where a few peddle and some ride for free! You also see them on the Boardwalk & at the Beach Club.

I have seen plenty of cars with bike racks but I can't recall ever seeing someone riding a personal one.

We have brought bikes when we stayed in Fort Wilderness and OKW. Just rode the bikes on the resort area, never outside on the Disney roads themselves. It was nice to be able to ride up to the pool area.

Actually, I've heard that bicycling on the main roads (between resorts and parks) is prohibited! There are many roads with no passable shoulders. Hopefully in the future (as the US continues to get more interested in energy conservation and sustainable modes of transportation), Disney will take the opportunity to invest in some terrific bike infrastructure. They're already experts at designing for the pedestrian scale (the parks).

I can just picture you walking your bike down the hallway at BW :rotfl2:

Makes sense about no riding on the main roads. I see people running now and then, but they can easily run off to the shoulder.

I would love to see a bike path infrastructure put into place. Whether I brought my bike, or rented one.

Runners are asked not to run along the roadways for fear of getting hit. The Disney security will often stop and pick them up if they see them. And there are signs that say no running/walking along the side of the road. Bike riders have the same problem. Plus where are you going to store that bike when you are not riding it? You'll have to store it inside your villa.

Any resort that has bicycle rentals ought to also have bike racks, where you may lock your own bicycle (at your own risk). I've seen them at Fort Wilderness Campground and at Wilderness Lodge. Never looked at other locations though.

But if there is just enough room to lock up the rental bikes, there won't be any room for your bike at night.

I guess I'll have to stick with resort bikes or stationary bikes in the gyms until Disney sees fit to put in bike paths. No worries. It's the age old question for travelers. How does one keep active with workouts? I know that can bring some responses. Yes, I know that you walk a ton while at Disney, but for some of us it's not enough. When my family takes their afternoon nap, I'd love to go put in a 45minute ride. No, I am not much of a runner.

Thanks for the reply's.

I hear you. Yes, walking around the parks is a lot of walking, but it's not the same as a workout. I generally hit the fitness center and/or go for a really brisk walk/run, when I can fit it in.

We have brought our bikes to OKW for years. We use them in the resort and over at SSR. We can ride to DD but you cannot take your bike into the DD area - just ride outside and back to OKW. We use them to go to HH - for whatever reason. We have never worried about them being stolen.

We were there in March (drove down) and my husband said the equipment in OKW was pretty new and updated. He likes to run, but on the days he doesn't he went into the gym.

We are not planning on renting a car when we go next week. A first for us.........but we have a big trip to Hawaii in August and want to save some money!!

Dh just asked me about renting bikes for the week while we are there. Are there any off site companies that rent bikes for the week? I know you can't use roller blades in the area near the pool and such but can you use them on the roads at OKW?

A bike path would be great!!

Have heard this as well.

Yes; on one of our trips we'd seen Disney security vehicle pull over and approach 2 people jogging on Bonnet Creek Pkway just outside of POFQ, presuming it was to inform them of this......

We rented bicycles at SSR. Plenty of trails to run and cycle around SSR/OKW.

This is my understanding as well re bicycles - only permitted at resort properties that offer bikes for rent.

Within OKW itself (?), idk I'm not sure - - can't say I've ever seen roller blading on the roads at OKW or along paths they indicate for bicycle riding. If you can get through to OKW's front desk maybe they can answer or transfer your call over to Hank's to find out.

Roller blades are not permitted to be used on Disney property unless you are a CM at Tarzan (since defunct).
