I've seen a LOT more availability than I expected so far. It's hard to know much is going to be available going forward as DVC clears certain inventory and RCI members become more aware of the option to trade to DVC. The availability does seem to have calmed down somewhat from the initial options. However, I see something new almost daily. There are somewhere in the range of just over 120 units it appears in the RCI weeks and RCI points combined inventory as of this afternoon. Thursday there was a 2 BR AKV Easter week and many other 2 BR including BWV, VWL and BCV.

What is 'RCI'?

RCI is Resort Condominiums International - the timeshare exchange company now working with DVC for timeshare trades outside of DVC.

DVC members can exchange into RCI member resorts and RCI members can exchange into DVC resorts.

RCI was the first exchange partner when DVC began and then was replaced by II (Interval International) when that original agreement ran out. The present relationship with RCI began in January, 2009.

Wow; my Aunt is w/RCI and she offered us her condo for a week (Orange Lake) but we really wanted to stay on property this time. How does it work? I see that it's pretty new; what properties would you be able to stay at? (Does it just depend on availability?)

It would depend on the trading strength of that resort and then availability. If you can't get a DVC trade realize that Orange Lake is a nice resort and is very close to WDW - it is almost next to AKV Kidani Village.

Your Aunt should be able to check online thru RCI to see what is available using her Orange Lake week for exchange. If she does not have anything currently banked she may need to call RCI to check is anything would be available using that resort for an exchange. Not all RCI member resorts will be able to trade into DVC resorts - in the past DVC has blocked Orlando area resorts from being able to exchange into DVC resorts.

Orange Lake is huge and it is a fairly nice resort though not in the top group of Hilton's, Marriott, Hyatt, DVC and the like. Unfortunately OLCC doesn't have that great of trading power and you cannot trade it for DVC no matter how good the trading power is because DVC/RCI blocks trades for other Orlando Area timeshares. Likely the best thing about OLCC is being able to get larger units (3 BR) and multiple units. Tell your family to be VERY wary if they are asked to convert to the new Holiday Inn points option as it is not worth a large fee to do so.
