I keep seeing a lot of pictures of those pretzels from there where you pick your own toppings in trip reports and food picture thread and I just don't get it. That can't possibly taste good, right? A pretzel rod covered in chocolate chips, sprinkles, and caramel would taste like eating a sugar cracker. It's baffling to me. Or is it just more of a cool thing to do to say you did? People who engage in this activity, please set me straight.

We did this last year -- dipped in milk chocolate and rolled in peanut butter cups. It was delish. No sure what a sugar cracker tastes like :confused3 but I'm a chocolate dipped pretzel fan to begin with so I enjoyed it.

Wow... obviously you have never lived the joy of combining something salty with something sweet... yum! Give 'em a try... you just might like it!

Yeah, I get the salty/sweet deal. Pretzel rods aren't THAT salty though. It seems like covering it with oreo, chocolate chips, and caramel would completely overpower the pretzel, thus rendering it basically a cracker.

I will try it though. It just seems that in all the pictures, people are picking combos that couldn't possibly be good. I'll probably go for a rice krispie treat since it's a more substantial base to work with. With all of the amazing things they have in there, I always think "you'd really rather eat an awkwardly paired oreo, peanut butter cup, sprinkles pretzel rod than all of this other wonderful stuff?" Are you telling me that doesn't pale in comparison?

Having tried both the dipped rice krispie treats and the dipped pretzel rods, IMHO the pretzel rods are better. The toppings are so sweet that the plainer pretzel balances it out, whereas the marshmallow in the treat makes the whole thing almost inedibly sweet. (The marshmallows on a stick were even worse in that regard.)

I did dark chocolate, nuts, and caramel.

Oh yeah I totally agree. I have seen some combinations of toppings that I wouldn't have chosen personally!

I usually choose the big chocolate covered peanut butter bars instead of the pretzels anyway!

See, you know how to pick toppings. That's an excellent choice. I don't know that caramel goes with pretzel, but the nut selection adds another salty element to balance out the two sweet layers. You can do apples to, right? How about that over the pretzel? That way you can do caramel, nuts, and.... well I don't know what the hell else you could really put on there that wouldn't be terrible, haha.

I looove chocolate covered pretzels! Carmel is good too, although I prefer a small amount of it. I don't go for the wackier combos, but I'm telling you, you've gotta try chocolate and caramel before you knock it.

Where is this place? I LOVE pretzel rods dipped in caramel, rolled in pecans, then drenched in milk chocolate....YUM!

It's in Downtown Disney.. and I know what you mean OP. When I go, I do something simple like dipped in chocolate and rolled in pecans. With 2+ ingredients it just gets messy and very sweet! I think a lot of people just love the experience. It's so fun!
