The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Dinner is up in the air. Buddy wants to do something tonight but is crabby so I want to stay home. There is nothing worse than a man who thinks he is calm and reasonable when in fact he is anything but :dance3: We'll see what a few hour chugging on a tractor in the coolish (it is not hot here) sun will do for his temperament. I am going to iron and pretend I am creasing more than slacks and shirts :upsidedow

LOL:rotfl:

Vic, I think you'll all have fun at Whispering Canyon Cafe!

Keeping my fingers crossed for CG!!!:cool1:

T-Rex cafe new to us and dont know any one who's been but the boy thinks it looks GREAT so we'll give it a go.

Oh yeh...and there's a little get together at Cali Grill with some very fine lassies ( and some very fine DH's too ;))

:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Have a good day..BBL x

Oh...I want to come to the CG!!!! My favorite place...enjoy my friends. Please toast all of us unable to attend. :guilty:

Vickie, we ate at T-Rex on our last trip in March. It was surprisingly good.
We shared a delicious flatbread appetizer and I had baked onion soup as my entree. DH got his usual burger. :thumbsup2 I don't believe they do ADRs, we went around 4:45pm and were aboe to walk right in to eat. Your boy is goin got love the atmosphere!

Wasn't Paige with y'all when we met?

Yes, what an amazing memory you have! She's been with me for a long time now, but I'm afraid this may be the end. She is supposed to be graduating this year so she'll be moving on. That part is so hard since we get so close to those girls. Paige and Hailey are especially close. As a matter of fact, Paige told her new boyfriend not to worry about her Daddy, to worry about Hailey. She said she wouldn't necessarily dump him if her Daddy didn't like him, but if Hailey didn't like him then he was out. Talk about pressure on that poor boy.

Oh my, it's hot as HELL here!! 102 right now, at 5pm, earlier it was 106-108, depending upon the part of town. How hot is it in y'alls areas?

It isn't that hot, but we're not too far off. There have been several times this week when the temp at 5 p.m. was 94 or 95. The humidity here is awful! You can't make it from your front door to your car at 7 a.m. without sweating.

Alex is becoming the bottom less pit. He had his highschool physical today :faint: My baby is 5'10" 172 lbs :upsidedow he is just 14. Last night he ate a shish kabob sandwich and half of my combo platter.

Wow, he is having quite a growth spurt. I thought Patrick was getting bad, but Kenny assures me it will get much worse. I do remember my brother going through his bottomless pit phase when he would eat a 1 lb block of cheddar cheese in an afternoon - sliced on a whole loaf of bread. We may have to take out an equity line if Patrick starts that. My grocery budget is already higher than I like.

I probably won't check in again until Sunday night. Tomorrow morning Liam has a baseball game, and then we are heading to Becky's for dinner and a sleepover. I bought lots of yummy fish today...wild salmon, tuna, swordfish and sea scallops, so we'll have seafood mixed grill one day and the salmon the other.

Have a great weekend friends!

That sounds wonderful. I love seafood and especially in the summer. I'd love the fresh scallops and clams. We only get the frozen scallops. But our shrimp here are delicious. Since we live on the coast, during shrimping season we can be eating shrimp in the evening that were swimming in the ocean in the morning. And since fresh shrimp taste completely different than the frozen ones, I think I'm probably missing out on the scallops too.

I have not seen much of my Princess this past two weeks, Marisa has been home so she has been home a lot too :sad1: She was here yesterday though and it was raw and clammy out so when Nola went down for a nap we cuddled up on the couch under a blanket and watched Mulan together. The day before we watche Hanna Montana something. I missed watching TV with her, usually she and I would go watch a movie until it was time for her to go to bed.

Gretchen, please send the books to Nancy!:cool1:

:thumbsup2 Will do. They'll go out on Monday.

:rotfl::rotfl: Nancy, you crack me up.

We'll be working in M&D's house today, then Kyle's baseball game then finally out for my birthday dinner!!!!:cool1:

Have a great time. If you had a better tax lady, maybe she could figure out how to deduct the dinner as a business expense. :rotfl:

I'm sure we'll do it again sometime. It went something like this:
"Ooooh! Cheese!"
"What? Where's the Kraft?"
"That's somewhere else. This is the GOOD cheese. NOT the $2 cheese."
"Oh. You mean there's MORE THAN ONE cheese department at this store?!?"
...a bit later...
"These are red beans."
"Oh. What do I do with them?"

:rotfl: At least you didn't do what a girl I used to work with did. We had sausage cheese balls at a work brunch and she loved them and asked for the recipe. We had no idea she couldn't cook AT ALL until she called from the store to ask how you got those big chunks of cheese into those little balls. :rotfl:

The Boy woke this morning with a head cold,I think the head ache last night was the start of it.

I started getting Migraines around his age and I fear the worst when he says his head is sore.

Thanks for your concern lassies...

Vickie, I started getting them around puberty. The doctor said because they were puberty onset, I should probably not get them after I got pregnant. He was right. I can count on one hand how many migraines I have gotten since I had Hailey (thank heavens). But I still remember the intense pain. I hope your son doesn't start getting those.

Oh...I want to come to the CG!!!! My favorite place...enjoy my friends. Please toast all of us unable to attend. :guilty:

Ann, we must have been posting at the same time. Of course we will toast all of you who aren't there. Maybe one day we'll all have to plan at least a weekend together. :cheer2:

I forgot to post dinner. We're having burgers, baked beans and chips. I have to run, the dog keeps bumping my hand from the keyboard with her nose. I guess she wants some attention.

Ladies - I have a favor to ask. Dad is having a hard time eating because he has blistering all through his digestive tract. He will eat soft foods and I thought of mac and cheese since he really needs the calories. My mac and cheese is a baked kind and isn't very soft. Do any of you have a recipe with a melted cheese sauce that you add to the cooked noodles? I'm particularly interested in what kind of cheese blends you use. TIA

Hi everyone,
Sorry I'm so far behind. If my mother-in-laws problems weren't enough my girlfriend from work had her daughter in law living with her along with 2 granddaughters almost 2yrs old and 6 weeks old while her son was at bootcamp. The daughter in law ran a stop sign Thursday night and was killed. The 6 week old died Fri. morning and the 2 year old is in critical condition. Her son is coming home today he never even got to hold his 6 week old daughter. SOOO sad I'm trying to help with what I can over there. Sorry I'll try to catch up after all this settles down.

Lauri- I came on to catch up but I cannot get past your so very sad post. My heart is breaking for your friend and her son. :sad1: I just don't have words but I will pray for this family as I pray for you, I know you will find a way to help

Oh Lauri, That is so terribly sad. :sad1: Prayers for your friend & her family.

Hey Y'all,

Busy day today. The wedding will be dinner!

I had a fun day with Bethany yesterday! Lunch & running errands.

Kat, I gave her the easy version of red beans & rice. Blue Runner beans & smoked sausage! I have never seen anyone get so excited over the price of cheese!

Vicki, Your adr's sound great! I'm hoping you get everything you want! I really hope we get Cali Grill too! I'm so excited to meet everyone!

Maria, Please go ahead & book us for all WFD events. The only one we're iffy on is FF, Bob thinks he might still want to do the PFTS that night. Although I'm leaning towards the Tutto Italia food & wine pairing lunch and FF that night. So we'll see. Bob said he was really hoping we'd have a crowd going to the PFTS, he thought that would be fun.

Gretchen, I'm sorry you're Dad is having such a rough time. I believe Laura has a recipe like that she fixes for the kids.

Gretchen, Bob wants to know if we can come see your BLT room? If money wouldn't be so tight right now ( my surgeon is not on my insurance plan ) we would have bought BLT. He was excited to here you are staying there!

Nan, I'm sorry you aren't getting lots of Kady time. I'm sure Marisa is really enjoying spending more time with her girl. Although it would be a lot better if she wasn't recuperating from surgery!

I cracked up over NanaWONKA Camp! :lmao: Wonka really fits me!:upsidedow

Kat, Sorry you are doing house clean up today! But I'm happy that the house is going to be rented!

Enjoy your birthday dinner with your guys!

I've got to run, sorry if I missed someone or something!

Have a great Saturday friends!

Lauri~ I can't even come up with words for this tragedy. My prayers are with this family. I'm just so sorry:hug:

Hey Guys what does PFTS stand for?

I don't have that problem about making big batches of food. That's just never been an issue with me...:rotfl:

Now that you are somewhere that you can get a better variety, not to mention basic essentuals you never know. ;)

ADR's tomorrow...want to know my choices....no...well tough...Im gonnae tell youse any ways !! :rotfl:

Whispering Canyon is really good, have your son ask for ketchup, whether he needs or wants it or not. ;)
We like 50's as well but are a little burned out on it, we've been there just about every trip. Uncle Tommy was the best, even though he was never our waiter. :rotfl:
T-Rex is really good, ask to dine in the Ice Cave if possible. :thumbsup2

Going to the concert tonight and trying to get things cleaned up here at the house so that I can work on my quilt projects. Thinking of doing sausage and onions with pasta tonight and saving the shrimp for tomorrow night.

Lauri, how horrible. Prayers for your friend and her family.

Of course you can! You just have to promise to overlook the mess. Hailey tends to put her "mark" wherever we go. Seriously, we'd love to have you. Anytime that works for you will be fine, but it may be easier before or after the Citricos dinner to just hop on the monorail, but I'm sure we can work it out. We're in a 2 bedroom bay lake view because we didn't have enough points for the MK view. I would have preferred the MK view, but Kenny thinks drinks on the balcony overlooking the lake sounds better.

Anyone else who wants the tour is also welcome.

Party for the Senses - I think.

Sheryl and I went to the supermarket together yesterday. It was good times! :thumbsup2

How fun!!!

We'll be working in M&D's house today, then Kyle's baseball game then finally out for my birthday dinner!!!!:cool1:

Yay! Have a good night out! :cool1:

Mickey Back Yard BBQ- we have done this every time we have been to WDW.I wasnt sure the boy would want to go this year ( too old ) but he said "Are you havin a laugh,If chip n Dale are there then so am I "....I was so chuffed because I love it !!

:rotfl: What a funny kid he is! Your dining plans sound delish!

When I flared last time and my mouth/throat were swollen with sores, and my colon was inflamed so I couldn't eat much, I discovered Easy Mac in the microwave containers. It's just processed cheese product, I know, but it gets really soft and doesn't taste bad (esp when you're starving). Plus easy to fix when you don't have much energy. Might be worth letting him try one of those in a pinch and see if they go down okay. I love homemade mac and cheese but real cheese seems to be thicker than the processed stuff.

Oh my gosh, how terribly sad. I can't imagine what her son is dealing with right now. :sad1: Update us when you can.

I am not sure what we're doing - likely getting something out, as there isn't much here. Not home enough to buy much groceries right now :confused3

We have NO plans today!:banana: Man, I live for days like this.

Rouses on BC Hwy and Lapalco. Sure. :thumbsup2

That's my favorite store! Has your DH ever had beans & rice, does he like them? Just trying to figure out if it'll be worth it for you to cook them from scratch or just use the canned ones.

Yes, what an amazing memory you have! She's been with me for a long time now, but I'm afraid this may be the end.

I remembered because she left quite an impression on me, she is so good with Hailey. How tough it'll be to lose that one.

Busy day today. The wedding will be dinner!

Hope you have a nice evening!

Our plans are all screwed up now. Kyle's game got pushed back to 7:00...our dinner reservations are for 7:30. Looks like he & Mariah will be at the ballgame while Johnny & I go to dinner.:upsidedow

You can make a roux of equal parts butter and flour then add half and half and an American cheese blend to it. AC will melt "softer" Over cook the pasta, that will make it nice and soft, then mix the sauce in with it. Salt and pepper to taste.

Some other softer cheeses are goat cheese and Monterey Jack.

Sorry I am so tired to post. I finally had one of my demo things today I am not used to the hours on my feet.

:hug:For all who needs them

Lauri, I am at a loss for words. Sending prayers to all involved. I am sure your friendship means the world.

WFD- steak and portobella sandwiches, fries, ...formula & chicken nuggets!!!

O my friends our whole community is all upset. The news people are all over this and my friend is really a private type person. News people waiting at hospital for ?s for family and at airport as son flyies in ect. Please say a prayer she takes care of her self also it has not even been a year that she has been given a clean bill of health from breast cancer herself. Just wish I could think of more I could do to make life easier for her. You girls are the best I pray she can trust the good Lord. If you can help me think of anything more I can do for her she is the type that is always doing things for everyone else and doesn't want to be fussed over.

quickly checking in while feeding T...

Lauri, My goodness, I am so sorry to hear about the accident. Prayers for everyone. Just be there for your friend and I am sure that will be very appreciated. Maybe send a meal that they can eat or freeze.

Lauri-- I can't even imagine what the family must be going through right now. Prayers going out to them. Hugs to you too.

Good morning! It is a beautiful sunny day here it is supposed to be in the low 80's here.

Last night I was laying in bed watching tv when I saw a clip of the upcoming movie Julie and Julia it looks so cute. I immediately though of all of you. It is about a person who decides to cook every recipe from Julla Child so she can blog about it. I have always admired Julia Child she was one amazing woman.

Last night we had burgers on the grill and fruit. Tonight is still up in the air.
perhaps chicken something on the grill.

Kathy I hope your Birthday dinner was nice and Kyle won his game.Too bad it ended up a little upside down.

Vickie How is the boy doing. I always feel the worse just before my cold finally breaks out. Then you know what it is a can take the appropriate stuff.

Ann I hope you weren't serving the formula to the nonbabies in your group ;)

Bethany I forgot to say what a cute baby you have. Make sure you train her right so I don't see you on "It's the dog or Me" those people are nuts
I envy you having a trip going through that grocery store. It must have been a culture shock to see you have choices.

I hope I am not missing anyone please forgive me. :flower3:
