Concerned about cutbacks at the Fort

Typing this on my iPhone so there may be mistakes. *

We arrived June 27th @ around 7 am then checked in. *We found a campsite that was perfect and vacant that we could go ahead and set up on but it was taken by one of those miserable people who just rent sites for the extras and we couldn't have it so we had to wait. *I know that's what it was becAuse the cm told me the people had checked in, picked up their room cards, and dining plan. *The site also sat vacant for the next 4 days which is how long I was told they had rented it for.

We waited until about 2 pm (the whole time knowing our site number) for someone to come clean it but no one ever showed. *Now I know the policy and they still had time but we had made a special request and let them know we were waiting. *So I went ahead and started setting up camp regardless. *My dad went to ask if he could at least have a broom to sweep the site himself; they told him no and not to come back. *Now he is not the most diplomatic person in the world but that was just rude. *I had made several runs through the campground through the day while waiting and only saw one cm cleaning sites way over in 1500 loop. *I think they cut personel to the point of not having enough and what's left isn't running on an empty magic tank. *

Secutity and CARTS: *major problems this year

1). Lots and lots (I saw at least 10) 12-14 year oldsters driving carts. *Actually the sad part was that most of them were driving better than the ones that had a driver license.

2). Lots of just absolute imature people or plain idiots driving carts. *Everything from driving loops the wrong way (day and night and also saw a several cars doing the same) to driving loops the wrong way at night with the headlights dark on the cart and kids walking/riding bikes. *My son even had a near miss with one of these.

We saw a lot of wild driving on them. *One example was while walking back from the boat. *A couple carts came down through, around the loop in front of the store, and back out at nearly full speed while people were walking up from the boat. *Even a Disney security guard had just walked past and down to the dock but either he didn't see or nothing was done. * * **

3). *We also saw at least 5-6 12-15 year olds driving water mice by themselves. *This is less of a problem for me though since they can't really hurt anyone but themselves and not much chance of that as long as they stay out away from the other boats. *It did worry me a bit though as a few of them came far too close to the back of the FW-MK ferry boat where I was standing. *There were several Boston whaler's out and about but they were letting them get away with murder compared to what they used to call me on.

**As to the security issues, *it was lacking in just a few ways. * *
I think they are going to have to start checking cards at the new pool. *I noticed a number of the large crowd at the pool on the 4th were comming-going from the outpost end. *While at meadows visiting the "John" a several (2-4, I couldn't tell exactly) came in and changed out of their swimming trunks and back into normal clothes. *

** * Later I saw a group get off the bus at outpost and leave toward the parking lot (bags of extra gear in hand). *Because of people comming in for the review at night and un-checked parking, it's very easy to do this.*

Even boat drivers complained to us about the number of boats running and told my parents to write in and complain. *This was before the monorail accident. *Before the talk cap was put on the cm's here a few talked to my parents and soar the boy had emailed friends and complained about working long hours. *One of the cm's (not saying who so as to not get them in trouble) was the mother of a supervisor ( not the right word again) who was "having a very bad day". *I feel sorry for the family and hope they are able to find out the truth. *My personal opinion is that it's the fault of the people cutting jobs.

** * All that said, we have had a great time and there were plenty of good experiences. *I can however see a negative impact on the Fort.

Hope you are still having a nice time, otherwise. You should have dropped by 1600 Loop for the 4th!! You missed a fun party :-)

I will comment on what I saw as visitors using the pool who were not staying at the Fort.

On Sunday June 14 we noticed a large group of 10 people camping out by the pool dressed in street clothes. Something was just "off" about them. They changed in the restroom to their suits - although some swam in their clothes and used the pool all afternoon. When they were done they showered at the pool rinse off shower by the hottub - and by shower I mean used soap and shampoo. It was ridiculous and several people went to the lifeguards. Their response was laughing and saying "we can't do anything about it". It was just so blatantly apparent that these visitors were not guests of the Fort.

I found this scene to be very irritating. DH said to blow it off and enjoy our vacation which I did.

Not making excuses..but in my experience we try to stay away from camping on holiday weekends. The behavior is usually bad, and management looks the other way, because it's just not a battle they choose to fight. It's a no win situation. At least this was the case in the two campgrounds we were seasonal in. That being said, in the case of the golf carts and the water sprites..sounds like there could be some serious ramifications there. Given what's happened over the weekend, perhaps they'll make some changes and enforce the rules they already have.:confused3

I agree, last place we want to be is camping on holidays, been there done that didn't like it.

I remember a time in the early 90's when you better have had your KTTW card with you at all times or you weren't going to enjoy any ammenities on Disney Resort property.

Hi Sinclare! We saw you there, actuallly when we checked it they gave us your campsite, 2057 we went there and you guys were already there, so we went back to the front desk and finally they gave us another site, 2038. We loved your mickey ears lamp but the way.

I also noticed the teens driving the golf carts like crazy.

Wow, such a difference from our experience over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The CG was nearly full. No underage folks driving carts. No crazy drivers of any age (possible exception was two guys driving motorized coolers back from the boat launch :rotfl2:). No odd happenings in the pool area. CMs were liberally distributing their 'have a magical day!' replies. All sites were cleaned almost as quickly as the last person departed. Boats seemed to be every fifteen minutes. Maybe you just hit FW on a bad weekend.

Just a reminder to everyone not to let your guard down too much. We were camped in site 628 from Tues the 30th til yesterday. My bike, along with my wife and daughters were in the 10x10 behind the camper, at some point between about 8 oclock on tues til wed morn my bike was missing, it was found in the next loop though so no great loss. This is an old bike, a Cannondale but it is old, so I guess someone just decided that they didnt want to walk anymore and the temptation was too great. Bottom line, no more sites on the main road and keep em looked if you cant keep an eye on them. Had a great week at the Fort other than that. (by the way, my next door camper told me the same thing happened to the camper in my site before me)

I think maintenane had some cutback too!

Wow, we had just the opposite experience about 2 weeks ago. As soon as someone vacated a site, there would be a maintenance person cleaning it up. The trash was emptied early every day. The pool was never too crowded and everyone seemed to belong there. Our entire experience was very positive and we are already talking about a return trip. The staff at the outpost was very helpful and friendly. No complaints at all.

How did you know your site number if the site wasn't ready yet? When I checked in, they absolutely wouldn't tell me which site, just which loop. The site number was texted to my phone when the site was ready.

Sounds like a big difference between Memorial Day crowd and the Fourth of July. Obviously word has gotten out about the pool renovations being completed. Let's face it..management sure hasn't had to worry about people sneaking in to use the FW pool in the past. They might want to consider enforcing those "no pool hopping" rules, now that the Fort has a "cool pool". :beach:

The only way I ever got my site # was when the CM went behind the door I looked around at the computer. They keep the site # secret so people don't go vulture a site while it's still occupied. I know someone who was sitting outside one morning about 0900 and a lady walked up and asked her when she planned to leave. She described what she said and I think the woman got the hint. Whenever I check in early and get put in overflow I usually ride to the loop I asked for and see if there are vacant sites. If there I might go back up with a list of sites I like and request it. If I'm told no we go find something to do until 1300.

As far as renting a site for benefits, it's been discussed and there is nothing you can do. I do however wish the renters would let someone have it though.

We were in 1700 this past week and the site cleaners were cleaning sites as soon as a camper left. Most of the time the sites even stayed vacant a day or 2 so it wasn't like somebody was waiting.

I saw a kid about 9 at the Meadows one morning driving a rental cart. I'm not sure why they don't enforce it. Magic or no magic it's uncalled for. We had a manager come to our loop were we had several sites nearby and had a cart parked while talking and I guess somebody got mad and called up front. If they can come take my sitting in my cart talking to friends magic away certainly they can pull a kid out of a cart.

The 4th is a busy time at the fort. I just take it for what it is. If you go during a holiday weekend you need to expect less than usual no matter how many people have or have not been layed off. I'm sure other facilities were just as busy.

To be honest, besides new concrete and the slide the pool is the same. I liked the deep end it used to have. I think the reason for so many people is it's summer and a lot of people are on vacaton.

I have to think Stacktester is right....the 4th is well known as a "PARTY WEEKEND"....and partying has lots of different definitions to lots of different people....but you can always be certain that not all people will like the way some people party. Party weekends are definately gonna be chaotic ANYWHERE you go.

Crowds have went down a lot. Nearly 2/3rds of 2000 loop is now empty and talking to others in the hot tub, the situTion is similar elsewhere. Lots of brazillian tour groups in the parks though. On family in the hot tub tonight said that tuesday they had got stuck on Kali for 30 minutes when two brazillian girls got in a fight over which one would set next to some guy. Lol

oh we knew the number of the site because we arrived early and scoped out which sites we wanted. When we couldn't get the one we wanted because of the afore mentioned problems; they had to give us options. The confusion as to which camp ste they fought we were on came up when dad went up to ask for a broom and they asked if he wanted some other site, to which he said no but they apparently moved us in the system anyway.

Thanks about the light. My dad is a perfectionist and when I asked him for help figuring out what parts to do the electrical with, he kind of took over and did most of it. He really did a great job on it and it made him happy to have so many people stop by and compliment it. I even tried to recruit a few new people to dis when they asked about the light so if you see new people on here say hi for me. I won't be home, extending stay till next Friday.

Oh, PS (since I can't figure out how to scroll text to edit on this iPhone):

I loved all the high spirits, convoys of honking carts, people partying and having a good time for the 4 th. ( I'm not that old yet, thank goodness). However, being a parent that's been camping at the fort since mine was little; some of those people on carts were scaring me and I'm really supprised no kids got hurt that weekend.

Happy to hear that things have calmed down and emptied out some, so that you can enjoy your trip! :thumbsup2

Oh I see. My Hubby made a lamp too, but he forgot some cord of something and when we went to wal mart to buy some groceries he couldn't find it there, I was pissed because i wanted our lamp on as well. We went by your site a couple of times to say hi but no one was there, but i took a pic :rolleyes1 :lovestruc
