I might be looking to rent some DVC points and had a question about the classifications at AKLV. What is the difference in the Value and Standard? Is it just the location?

Standard rooms have a view of the pool (Jambo) or parking lot (Kidani). Value rooms are considerably smaller, do not have the pull-out chair to sleep 1 extra person, and have views of either a savannah or the pool. There are only a couple of value rooms, and they are all at Jambo House.

actually "value" rooms are smaller - they just didn't have room to convert the hotel rooms into the normal sized villas. (if you look at the pt charts, they have a smaller max occupancy.) i can tell you that the studios are a tight fit but the lower point cost might make it worthwhile.

"value" rooms can have a savanna, pool or parking lot view (but it's all luck in which view you get).

Standard view at Kidani can be of the parking area or the pool. There is no large "parking lot" at Kidani as most of the parking is under the resort.

How do I figure out the number of points I will need? The points needed change mid week and of course Fri & Sat are more. Do I just add up each individual day.

I also notice there are weekly rates. What constitutes a week?

Yes, you would just add up the days individually. Weekly point totals are just a guide of what a full week during each season would cost in DVC points. If you look carefully, you will see that the weekly point totals match the individual point totals for the 7 days exactly.

To find the total number of points you will need, just look at each day's needed points individually and then add the days up.

The weekly rate is the number of points for 7 consecutive nights in the same season. You would arrive at the same number if you added 5 times the weekday rate and 2 times the weekend rate for nights in that season.

If a 7-night stay spans two seasons then the weekly rate does not apply. You have to add up the nights individually, taking the daily point values from the appropriate season.
