January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

So last night Logan and I were looking through Netflix watch instantly trying to find something to watch.
I was scrolling down, and he said "Enchanted, how about that?"
I told him I wouldn't mind watching it, but I thought he wouldn't like it. He said that he had never seen it, and the previews were funny.
I started loading it, then added "It's a singing movie." He looked at me and said, "You didn't mention that."
Anyways... we watched it, and he liked it. I was happy, because he hardly ever wants to watch movies like that with me.

Becca, that's great!! I love when Mike watches those with me...and likes it!!! Has anyone heard from Trixiequilts? Shelly?...

We love that movie!! Even DH! I just think there are so many funny lines. My favorite part is when the guy finds himself sort of bobbing his head with the music and catches himself doing it!

We're having a nice lowkey 4th until tonight we'll go watch the fireworks over the St. Croix river.
I had a friend (Sarah's friend and mom) over ALL day yesterday! From 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. It was fun, but I kept wondering if they were planning to spend the night! So I didn't get to get on the boards AT ALL! I felt so deprived.
Shelly - great job maintaining our threads all this time! THANK YOU ! We'll be looking for the new chat thread! That will be fun.

Soleil and Kim - Good luck with the Jan. 2010 I may still peek in from time to time!
I think I've subscribed to everyone's TRs so I'll be keeping tabs that way too.
The Dec. 09 thread hasn't really got much action. Although now Shawna came over to say hi!! YAY!
Shawna - Dave says he'll show you our BLT room if you show us your Tower room!!

Girl!!! It's a deal!! That Dave is a genius!!!!! Mike and Dave can visit while we ooh and aah over the details. I may have to borrow your W&D!! HA!!!:laundy: I would sooo pay extra for that!!! Mike wouldn't....he does for the monorail tho'....how goofy is that? Yeah, glad I finally got on the Dec thread... I just keep hangin' on to this one! Ha!!!

We are stayin' inside here for the 4th. We have that darn heat wave and with the heat index we are around 105 this weekend. :scared1:HOOOTTTTT!!

Probably get some stuff for thekids to pop tonight. I really can't believe that they didnt ban it...we have had a burn ban for a long time now. We have only had one rain in about 5 or 6 weeks!!!!We'll see!!:wizard:

Hey kids!

I keep trying to convince my friend that she should do a pre-trip report with me, but she's not buying in to it. She LOVES Disney but that's just not her style. When we went together in 2007, neither of us knew how it would turn out - me, her, a hotel room, and 3 days alone together. It worked and it worked REALLY well. I was the perky (heh!!) Disney cheerleader and she was more sedate, more of an Eeyore type personality, but when we got home, she started planning our next trip. But really, everything is planned. We made our ADR's, bought our plane tickets, and then booked the trip (strangely, in that order). Oh well. I guess I'll have to find a new hobby.

Her birthday is the day after we fly back. I'm debating ordering a cake to celebrate it, early. Of course, she might just prefer GIANT RICE KRISPIE TREAT instead.

The husband grilled dinner tonight. He realized that we didn't feel very festive, so he went to the store to get hamburger buns and hot dogs. He came home with corn on the cob, pasta salad, fat free hot dogs (??), and angel food cake. No hamburger buns. We made turkey burgers and oh can I just say they were TERRIBLE. It seems that you can freeze ground beef for half a life time, but ground turkey has no such give in it. Oh well... at least we had plenty of other food!

Then we went to see Capitol Steps. They come to Ann Arbor every year for the 4th of July. Ann Arbor is an unusual town, but the crowd is very responsive to their humor. Anyway, when one of the members, Morgan, stepped on stage, I looked at Jeremy and said "Aha! Now I know who Obama reminds me of!" They're not dead ringers but so very close. And I think it's funny that a politician reminds me of a comedian... but then again, maybe it's apt.

We got home just in time to listen to all our neighbors shoot off fireworks while watching the Boston ones on TV. Ha!! Our neighborhood is very very diverse and it's great... and one of households that has an extended family who all immigrated here always have the most fireworks, the biggest bbqs, and so on every year. It's kind of fun to see - as a native, sometimes you get blase about it, so it's always kind of inspiring to see what the US means to those who intentionally moved here.

Holy cow, I am writing SUCH a novel.

Happy Fourth, for what's left!

Hi everyone, Just stopping to say hi. I heard today about the tragic monarail accident in WDW. So tragic, and so sad.
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

Dave is very happy you said he was a genius! I'll have to watch his ego now!
We won't have a w&d in our room - we have a cheap (ha) studio. Otherwise, sure!

I'll have to go check out the accident report!

Oh my goodness I hadn't heard about the monorail accident. What a shame. The boy was only 21 years old.

Oh my, I hadn't heard about the monorail accident until I read it on this thread. I had to google it, to see what happened. That is just so terrible.

I hope everyone had as much fun this weekend as we did. Friday we didn't get to the inlaws until about 9 PM-ish. We sat off a few fireworks and then went to bed. Saturday we had fun with water hoses and water balloons. By 6 PM the only one not soaking wet was my sister in law and that was b/c she was wearing a white t-shirt and she would go back into the house if anyone came near her with water. My father and brother in law grilled burgers, steak, and chicken. The burgers were great, I didn't have the chicken, and the steak was overly cooked for me and had some black to it. We started the fireworks as soon as it started getting dark. My mother in law brought out a radio and we listened to an oldie station and my sister in law brought out the Mike's Hard Lemonade. Instead of sitting in a lawn chair I grabbed the lawn swing thingy and laid it down, so it was like a bed. When it was a firework that went up into the air, it popped above my head. Both nights of fireworks were great.

Okay, I am officially naming Kim and Soleil co-Auntie Snowbirds!! :yay::yay:

Thanks guys! The 2010 thread is all yours!

As soon as we fill up this thread I will start a new chat thread on the community board and post a link here so we can all keep in touch and talk about our January and non-January trips! :goodvibes

Have a great 4th of July everyone! :cool1:

Co-Auntie Snowbirds ...Shelly you're too cute! I don't mind if Soleil wants to do it on her own. I think she mentioned it first. :flower3:

Thanks for keeping up with this thread so much. Hope the unpacking is going well! :crazy2:

I almost forgot....the goats handled the fireworks ok. My mother in law wanted to put them in the garage, but my father in law wouldn't let her. the goats didn't like the water balloons. I was trying to help my mother in law feed the goats, and my sister in law pelted me in the back with one, and got the goats as well. It scared the yeck out them and sent them running. I was afraid the fireworks would cause the goats to have a head attack. I've eaten goat before and it was very traumatic, and I didn't want to eat goat b/c they died from a heart attack from fireworks. Their neighbors peacocks weren't happy with the ones that made noise.

Believe me, you'll need 2 of you to keep up with things before long!

We are still working on things at the new house. We have moved some stuff, but the new carpet/flooring is coming tomorrow. After that we will be able to move a lot more. So by this time next weekend we should be all moved and trying to get all unpacked!

Awww . . . a singing movie! LOL That's too cute. My son doesn't much care for singing movies, except Willy Wonka and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He's ok with those for some reason.

So sad about the monorail accident. And to think that driver was so young . . .

I need a co-auntie!!! I need a co-auntie!!!:yay:

The one thing I dread about moving (which will happen soon enough LOL) is the unpacking! I can do the packing and the moving of packages to said location...it just takes me months to unpack. However this time I have a plan I'm calling down MOM LOL!!!

Shelly wishing you all the luck as you get your flooring in and hope you guys get settled very quickly!

Well, I'm just over halfway through my first day of work after knee surgery. I took care of my email and sorted all the regular mail (into "file," "do one easy thing then file" and "stuff that requires actual work." Is it bad that I'm leaving the last pile until tomorrow?).

My friend saw that mororail accident on the news this morning. She hasn't ever been on the monorail and I was afraid now she'd NEVER go. Luckily, she only said "note to self: do not ride in the first car. ever."

I just read about that monorail accident. I feel for that boys family! I will definitely be praying for them in the days to come!! I can't understand how that even happened. That is such a weird thing! God bless them.:sad1:

Sarah...love your story!! and your cruise ship!!!!!

Shelly...don't u just love the smell of new carpet!!!!My allergies hate it, but I love it!! ha!!!! How are the boys doing with it? My kids are great little packers!!! I loooove the big moving boxes that you can let them just dump all the stuffed animals in. It gets full, but doesn't weigh 500 lbs!!!!

Jen...I can always come help you!!!!!! Are you def. gonna be in Austin, or somewhere outside there? I forgot!! My cousins live in Hutto and they say it's the greatest town ever!!!

Sheree-guess you and I can just hang out one night at the laundry room together then!! Ha!!!!! Are you doing a countdown calendar or chain or anything? I am, but I want to wait till 90 days I think.

Oh my gosh!!! I haven't been on here in forever :rolleyes1 I had such Disney blues after we got back that when I came on here it made me so sad :sad1:

I am happy to say that I am going back in Jan :cool1: I decided to run the marathon :rolleyes1 So I'll be there for a very short visit from the 8-11. The part that scares me the most is I am traveling by myself :headache: I have never done this before and having 3 small kids alone time just doesn't happen for me....so I am a little scared.

I'm happy I will have some people to plan with again...I couldn't have done it last time without you all. Any tips on solo trips...I would love
