I figured it out! We know the secret!

I, occasionally, peruse the other boards on this site, not really sure why as all the cool people are here

Anywho,

I came across a thread about staying offsite vs onsite and hit me right between the eyes! WE get it! This is essentially the list:

Pros for offsite:
Room for parents to be up and have a little adult time after the kiddos go to bed (duh, camping)

Room for the kiddos to play while parents relax (duh, camping)

A place to prepare a meal, keep snacks etc (duh, camping)

If you are not a family of four, it's waaaaaay expensive (duh, camping)

A place for friends and family, that won't squeeze in to one hotel room, to gather (duh, camping)

Pros for onsite

That Disney magic (duh, Fort Wilderness)

Onsite perks like free parking, extra magic hours etc (duh, Fort Wilderness)

Use of Disney transportation (duh, Fort Wilderness)


Plus, there's a whole load of stuff they haven't even figured out yet. WEall sleep on our own sheets (I'll keep my own germs thank you very much) The sense of friendly community. The unspoken understanding that the red plastic cup should contain an adult beverage. No need to leave Fido at home unless I want to. The list goes on......

So, yeah, I was a bit slow to figure it out. I guess the "ohhhhhh, I see, you're .......campingat Disney" said with slight pity made me think camping wasn't for everybody

Today I realized, its not that. They just haven't figured it out! So, DON'T TELL! It's hard enough to get reservations. I just tip toed out of that thread and back over here and I'll just stay quiet for a while and hope noone followed me

Never saw this thread either. But, on rare occasions, when we decide Friday noon to pop down to Disney for the weekend, a hotel on 192 serves it's purpose, but I ALWAYS visit the Fort

And we pack our own food, now wouldn't you rather pay Disney prices and save yourself the trip to the grocery store.

Oh, and did I mention we were the last to get a themed pool? And there are never any discounts or pin codes for the campsites.

We too were a bit slow to figure it out.............we would go to Disney every year and stay at one of the resorts, then we started staying at Shades of Green because we thought it was a good deal.....then we bought our camper just to use on weekends to camp local. Well, just for curiosities sake, I came on here to the camping boards and was skeptical at first, but after reading, and re reading and talking with the great people on this board, I was convinced. We HAD to try camping at disney for a week. Well, after making plans and then reservations, I nearly fell off the chair when I realized it would cost me the same price to stay at the Fort for one week, as it would to stay at a big resort for 2 days...........sooooooooooooo we decided to stay for two weeks!!!! We have never been able to stay for more than 6 days because we simply couldnt afford it. I wish I had found this board years ago!!!!
