Ok, I know my budget board girls will appreciate this one! Walked into a thrift store/consignment store today. Found a genuine coach purse in great condition....$40! Snapped that baby up in a heartbeat!! Checked online...retails for about $380! So excited!!

Congrats on a great find! That's such a steal :cool1: To me, half of the fun of thrift/consignment stores is that you never know what you might find. I hope you enjoy your new purse.

I got a find yesterday at Goodwill .... A "Night of Joy" CD from WDW for $2. I think it is 2005.

Good job on your find.

Congrats- great find! I worked for Coach about ten years ago- if you were to find one in not so great condition you could bring it into a store and they could (for the cost of shipping) send it to the factory for repair; Usually for piping, hardware etc.... Enjoy your treasure!

Great find. My Goodwill will put a *Coach* in their case and put a $40 tag on it, except they are always fakes. I feel bad for the people who buy them thinking they got a great bag for an unbelievable price, I'm glad your was the real deal :thumbsup2

Our Goodwill does the same with Kate Spade bags. Not the $40 part but way overpriced for fakes.

Congrats OP your cool find!!!!:thumbsup2

The Goodwill I go to in NYC (23rd St) had a "Prada" bag... same deal, I think $40. Problem was, it was about as fake as a $3 bill..... I loooove handbags and I could tell from about 10 feet away that it was a fake. I asked the woman if I could see it (she acted like she was guarding it with her life! LOL!). I told her it's a fake and she insisted it was real. I said that you can see it's a fake from looking at it, not to mention the "leather" was crumbling and the "Prada" tag was loose. That would NEVER happen with a real Prada.

I'm glad the OP got a great bag at the thrift shop, but I would be super careful about buying anything at that price at a thrift shop unless I knew for sure it was genuine.

The last time I was in Goodwill a woman came up to me and asked if I thought the "Prada" bag she wanted to buy was real. I just told her that it is highly unlikely that an authentic Prada would be found for $30 in any Goodwill or Salvation Army type store. If you want the real stuff you need to find a consignment shop. If looks too good to be true, it IS.

Last time I saw a "Coach" bag at Goodwill, I asked to look at it and even I could tell it was a fake and I don't do purses. I politely informed the clerk that she should tell her manager that they could take it down to the Coach store to have it verified as real but if caught selling a fake they could be fined a lot of money. Clerk looked nervous but recently in our area, a fleamarket was raided and they got $600,000 worth of fake purses.

I am almost certain it is real. The leather is real, high quality hardware, all of which are say coach on them. Even the zipper on the inside is embossed with the logo. Then there is the embossed leather patch on the inside saying it's Coach. No frayed lining fabric. It even "feels" real. If it is a fake, it is a REALLY good fake, and worth the $40 I spent, at least!

The place I got it was sort of a consignment shop. Not exactly sure. It was just a cute little store. Some antiques, some used stuff, all really cute, house stuff, etc. Nothing overly expensive. The only problem with the bag is that the zipper doesn't move as smoothly as I would like. Anyone know a cure for this? And thanks to the PP with the tip about having it "refurb'ed"!

Awesome find!
Now I know you probably want to keep the purse, but if it was me, I would totally sell it on eBay...turn the 40 into maybe 200..who knows? But that's just me...lol.

Sometimes with a slow zipper, you can either rub wax on it or take a Q-Tip with some WD-40 or 3-in-1 oil and rub it along the length of the zipper. That should help.

Oh, and if you bought it at a consignment shop, it's most likely authentic. You can take it to a Coach store to get it authenticated if you want. Or you can go to the Coach site and try to register the serial number on the bag. (if you can't register the serial #, you can call Coach customer service and ask them if it's a genuine Coach serial #)

I got one a couple of years back for .......$10, I was pretty sure in the store that it was not a fake, but for $10 I could not have bought a cheap purse at Target even if it turned out to be a fake. I took it to a Coach store to have them fix the lining and it is a real bag.

Great deal! DDs & I were in a kinda yucky thrift store over a week ago. It was the first time we stopped in there and they had things from sippy cups to furniture however some of the items were in bad condition. But what do we see..................a Michael Jackson 1984 record player. I even took a picture of it on my cell to show my boys. Can you believe the same things is now selling for close to $300. Kinda freaky.

I love a good find at a thrift shop.

2 weeks ago I stopped by the local goodwill and found a brand new matched set of Hartmann Tweed and Leather Luggage. Inside each one was all the registration info/paperwork and original tags including the leather luggage tags. They were literally brand new without a scratch on them.

I knew this was an expensive brand so on a hunch I bought them. I got a carryon, medium size suitcase, garment bag and large suitcase for $19.50!!

I looked them up online when I got home and completely freaked to see that the purchase price from Hartmann would total around $2700!!!

I sold them to my BF's bosses wife for $1200  She was very happy and so was I!!

Heck, I picked up about $80 of baby stuff last weekend yard saling. Totalling up the price of everything NEW - about $800 - $900.

I've bought several real Coaches, Dooney Burke, Fossil, Healthy Back Bags and Etiene Aigner purses at Yard Sales and thrift stores over the years - all real and all in good shape. You can find them, you just have to know what the real thing looks like!

Congrats on your finds!

Wow that is awesome!!!

It was probably mine. Just kidding. Seriously though, be very careful with your coach bag. I had a $400 coach bag (DH bought for me for very 1st mother's day--very uncharacteristically extravagant for both of us). Last Christmas we went to DH's law firm holiday party and since I came straight from work, I put my high heels and make up in the Coach bag, then left it in the passenger side floorboard of my car while at the party. Nice quiet neighborhood. I came out to leave the party and found the passenger side window shattered and my car full of thousands of little bits of glass, and the bag (with the shoes, and all the Clinique makeup I owned) gone. The police never recovered my property. I thought about looking at pawn shops. :)
It was a costly reminder to never leave valuables in the car, certainly not a bag that people can identify as designer from a glance.

I found a Coach bag at our Volunteers store in May for $58. It was real, had a little wear and I love it. I got a Stone Mountain there the other day for $12. I also found a Heisey glass huge compote for $14. I come from the land of Heisey so I knew the pattern and picked in up to look for the diamond-there it was. I gladly paid the $14 for this collectable piece probably worth upwards of $400. I have other Heisey; it's the first and only time I've seen it in a thrift store. Usually collectors snap it up.
