Just looked at the latest bill, $612, up from last months $302. Love those summer rates!

Either I am hallucinating or this is crossposted on two different forums here on disboards.

I am hoping it's just cross posted. Though I would like to just crawl back into bed for the day if I was truly hallucinating.....

I don't even want to see my electric bill for this month! Last month it was $350something. I'm sure it will be almost doubled for us too because it's been so hot and my AC is really working hard!

I just saw you were in Columbus, I am too and WOW! We have never had an electric bill that high! YIKES!!! I knew they would get high this summer so I decided to do budget billing...that way I know my bill won't change at all for the year! So $144 every month is way better than the unexpected 300-400 that we could possibly get over the summer! You must have a really huge house or something! Good Luck to you this summer!!!!

Our bill increased substaintially like that a few months ago - it was in part because our rate had almost doubled.

I called the electric company and found out that my contract had expired, so I was essentially paying "market price" - the most they were allowed to charge. We renewed our contract and went from paying .28/kwh to paying .11/kwh - and we're locked in for 2 years.

I'm in TX so I know how much high electric bills can go once summer hits! We are also able to "shop around" and choose our company - this has also saved us as well!

Our bill almost doubled between this month & last month too, and we're not even running the A/C that much. Just at night in the bedroom, and sometimes just on fan not cool. We are using other things more though - running fans as white noise for the baby, sometimes playing a CD all day or night for her if she's fussy. Babies are expensive in some sneaky ways! Good thing they're so cute. ;)

Does any one have pictures of the dinner for two on the balcony of the grand floridian.
I am going to disney and have already made my reservation for the dinner for two on the balcony with the butler service.

But they will not show me photos of the views from the balcony.
They say you can see the castle, the illuminations show and the wishes show as well from the balcony.
Even though i am sure it is a great view i want to be certain.

She is kind of shy so I am planning on proposing on the balcony durring the fireworks. So i really want that night to be perfect in every way that i can make it.

Any other suggestions would be greatly apprecited.

4500 sq ft, 20 year old house, two teens and DIverse Power (the old Troup electric). Summer rates are just double the regular rates. Usage stayed the same.

Cross post, you're not hallucinating! After I psoted there I realized it was a budget thing, lol

You have soo convinced me to stay in a small house! We have a 1900 sf and its 20 yrs old..good for me my kids are still young so I still have a little control over them as far as lights and stuff go! haha I only thought we had GA Power...hmm guess you learn something new everyday! I knew it was going to be crazy for the summer but I wasn't expecting it to be that crazy! Again Good Luck! Hopefully, since June was crazy hot, almost to what August would be like...your bill won't be much different for the summer!

We live close to the Harris County line, once you pass Williams Road The EMC kinda kicks in. I really cannot complain about them though, when we have an outage (and it's rare) they have us back on a lot quicker than GA power. WE are total electric, so no gas heat and I get complacent with my $300 bills till the first summer bill kicks in.

There's your problem, lol. Get a smaller house! I would hate to clean that thing.
We have a 2,000 sq foot, 6 yr old house with four people living in it. Our bill, in North Texas last month was $157. Last year well got close but didn't surpass $300 with gas heat/water ($25 month tops in summer).

Glad I live in a smaller house - cheaper to cool and easier to clean.

I just got my bill, it was $93 for a 3300 sqft house. Last year was more than double that, the average temps were 66 this year and 69 last year. Last August we had lots of insulation put in the attic, air sealed the house, installed window film, installed CFLs and I've recently started drying 95% of my laundry on a drying rack.

Oh my! I've never leaving my 2 bedroom townhouse if those are exapmles of regular electric bills  Especially since I'm one of those people who requires A/C (otherwise I'm a terrible, miserable person to be around.)

My electric goes up a lot in the summer too, but from the $20 winter bill to maybe $80 in the summer because I like my house COLD. My gas bill does the opposite, so it all works out.

Sorry you have to pay such a huge bill.

Wow, we northerners always wish we lived someplace warmer in the winter so we wouldn't have to pay so much for heat. But if that is what you electric bill looks like, than I will keep my heat bills:rotfl:

My average yearly electric bill is $52/month. My house is small, only about 1200 sqft with one adult and two children. Heat bill is about $200 a month or so for the winter months only. So that averages out to $152/month all together.

Oh yeah, I also rarely use AC. Haven't even put them in yet, and it was 90 here today. My house is in the shade most of the day, and I actually don't like AC. Wierd, I know.

I just got my 1st bill for the 1900 sf house we moved into last month here in SC. I thought $122 was high. As the heat index has been over 100 the last couple of weeks, the air has been running more than normal although set at 78.

I am hoping it goes down to $100 next month since we fixed a problem with the hot water heater. Broken thermostat causing the water to overheat and then shut itself off. Had to reset it every few days. I am sure it ran up the bill reheating the tank of water.

I am pretty sure today is the 1st day I actually put the AC on here in NJ. We had SO much rain and nasty weather, today was the 1st, hot, humid, summer feeling type of day.

OMG Robin, I was ticked that mine was $171, it is still on budget billing from when it was in my mom's name, they just kept it that way when we bought the house. I think it would be about $250 otherwise. I just had a brand new duel fuel heating and air system put in at the end of the year with an electric heat pump for the AC.

Our house is almost 60 years old and only 1300 sq ft livable space, we have an attic that runs the width of the house and I think we are having some heat coming in from the opening, guess I will be at Home Depot this weekend getting something to fix that.

I am in Phenix City and work in Columbus. It really is a small world.
