The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria--Did you book a studio at BWV? My dear friend tried to book one about 2 weeks ago and a no go. Wonder if our waitlist has come through. Have a great trip! Can't wait to hear all about it! And yes, the Bellevue lounge is fun--unless, like my trip last June, you get a fill-in bartender who never had bartended before that night. Bless his heart, he was a mess. I really wanted to step behind the bar and help.

Ann--anxiously awaiting little Emma's arrival.

Aimmee--I think it is so sweet that you feel so strongly about your grandpa. He's lucky to have you around!

Nan--ugh, bathing suit shopping is the worst! I took my brutally honest DD with me (yes, the 5 year old) and she decided for me. I guess I would rather take the brutal honesty from a 5 year old than a surgically enhanced 20 something sales lady.

Kathy--hmmm, CG is gonna be Sunday night????? I'm trying to work my trip so I fly into Tampa Friday morning, ride over with my friend and then fly out of Orlando on Monday morning. So, that might work! Go ahead and add me to the list, I'd rather be one over than one under! The sushi sampler plate there is to die for (sorry vickie!)

Vickie--sorry to hear that your DS isn't feeling well! Hope he's better this am. How are you doing? Taking it easy?

Not sure wfd tonight. I do need to make the steaks in the fridge. But it's so blasted hot here this week, that I don't feel like making anything other than a margarita.

Yer having a laugh......DH has just came home from work sick with the cold.

My living room is like a scene out of ER !!

Been sitting waiting patiently for Dr Doug Ross to appear and take my vitals

but nothing yet !! :confused3

Nancy -- I'm glad Kady's show went well. I wish they did sign as a language in grade school as well. Both Caili and Liam sang a song in Kindergarten accompanied by sign called, "See Me Beautiful" and it was all I could do to not sob. Okay, I admit, I am teary right now thinking about it.

Gretchen -- I hope everyone gets well soon so you get to spend time with your sister. Hang in there.

Aimee -- It sounds like your grandfather is happy, so that is a good thing!

Vickie -- I'm glad your boy didn't have appendicitis and is feeling better this morning.

Kathy -- I hope you're feeling better this morning.

Ann -- Stay comfie another day Emma!

Today is the kids' last day of school. They'll be home at noon, and the neighborhood hired the ice cream truck to be there to greet them. They are super excited. Caili then has a birthday party, then skating, and Liam has his first playoff game tonight. Somewhere in there, Caili and I will get something to eat, but I don't know what or when. My dad is taking Liam out to eat while Caili is at skating.

Haven't packed a thing, still doing laundry & yesterday decided to clean out the basement:confused3 Can you have nesting instincts if you are adopting?

Ann~ I told my Mom how cute Luke was on the phone last night. Rest, rest & cuddle with your little boy so you can get some good one on one time before your Princess arrives:cloud9:

Laura, I'm glad school is over for the kids, your have some time to breathe.

Vickie~ the boy shouldn't scare his Mum like that. Glad he is better but a stomach virus is scary when it has so much pain with it. Tell your husband I hope he feels better very soon.
Did you look at the menu link I sent you.

Charlene~ PMs cleared out, sorry about that;)

Steph ~ I did book a studio @ BWV, check your waitlist! You never know.

BBL

F&W gals I have the dining discount card so Cali Grill, FF, etc is 20% off the table. Every bit helps:thumbsup2

I have an itinerary started in the OP which is very tentative. We're kinda making plans as we go. I'll put names of those tentatively attending events if y'all would let me know who is planning on what. I'll put you down for CG!

Is anyone one else literally baking? It's officially summer here and the high temps are making it burdensome to cook. Blech. Rant over.

It's been bloody hot here for a couple of months but with AC, I'm okay for cooking mostly.

Aimee- my aunt used to like to sit in her chair and just watch the folks in the hallway. I would cringe when I left, she would be just sitting there and would wave as I walked out the door. I was so sad for her but she genuinely enjoyed "watching the show". As much as we hated the need for her to be in that "home" she had so much more company, interacted with so many more people and had a much better level of care. I am sure the same holds true for you grandfather, but his living circumstances are not what you would have wanted for him. If I could change one thing about how we cared for her I wish that we had encouraged her to go there sooner. He quality of life would have been way better than we were able to give her. I know we all thought that we were honoring her wishes and doing the right thing but in reality we did her no favors. Please do not feel so badly

:goodvibes

Poor DH! I hope you can steer clear of all of the ick going through your house - esp when still recovering from surgery.

It blows my mind that they are still in school this late in June! When do they go back?

I think so!

Another busy day but thankfully, do not have anything organized for kiddos tonight and I get to leave a little earlier. We are going to have mexican food with a B1G1 free coupon we have.

I tossed the WW out of the window about 2 weeks ago. I haven't been able to attend a single meeting in about 3 weeks and stopped recording about 2 weeks ago. I'm trying to make good choices but know I'm eating more than I should of my points. I have carved out tomorrow during lunch to hit the meeting and climb on that scale. I hope it's not too bad :scared:

Anyone take a break for a few weeks like that? Were you able to get your momentum back up? Next week I'm at camp and can't attend a meeting again :confused3

Aimee- I did through the Holidays. It was hard going back but if I can do it ....

I know that you are swamped so counting points, measuring food and constantly thinking about it can overwhelm you.

I would try to make choices using the healthy guidelines. Choose fruit and veggies whenever you can and choose WW pastas and whole grains over white flour and processed foods.

Choose lean protein whenever possible

Try to avoid fast food.

Modify the fats in your diet and make sure that you have enough dairy calcium

Worry about WW when your life calms down.

Maria, I do believe in the whole nesting thing even with adoption. It is that whole maternal instinct thing kicking into gear.

Just lurking around reading. I am tired we real did not get to nap today. DM asked me to take her to the store because my DF was not up to it. Dad has an appointment tomorrow afternoon to get checked out. His pain seems to be getting worse instead of better.

Hope everyone and your loved ones are well.

Actually it is cool and rainy here. :headache:

The schools here where I am get out on Friday and we go back August 31st.

Dinner tonight will be leftover Chinese and roasted squash! :rotfl: I may throw some chicken strips in the oven too, there is just a little Chinese leftover.

It is miserably hot down here, mid 90's, humid, heat index over 100. No break in sight for over a week. I'll try not to use the oven unless absolutely necessary.:sad2:

Ann, sorry about your Dad, praying things go well with his appointment tomorrow. Please call if you need to chat:hug:

I spoke to my MIL, Leona & she does not have cancer in her lung, biopsies are negative. They don't know what is appearing on all the tests, she will be followed by her cardiologist & pulmonary group from now on. They have rescheduled her knee replacement for mid-August.

Thank you for all your prayers, I truly appreciate them.

It seems like the weather has been strange everywhere. The temperatures here have been much cooler than usual for June. I actually had to turn my heat on one day. I will take the cool over the heat though.

Aimee -- Most of the schools around here don't get out until next week. They went back the day after Labor Day last year.

Baseball Update: Tonight was the team's first playoff game and they won! 11-2. The best thing was that Liam was the starting pitcher, and he was awesome. He pitched five innings and only gave up two runs. He struck out the side twice and didn't walk anyone. He was really happy, but exhausted. He went right to bed when we got home.

Maria -- I'm glad Leona received good news.

Thanks, Kat!

Does anyone know how to post video here? I was going to post video of the song I was talking about earlier, but I can't figure out how to do it.
