Buying Entertainment Card on Ebay

I read in another thread about someone buying the Entertainment Card (card only, not the book) on Ebay to get the entertainment rate at HOJOs. Has anyone done this?

I'm torn about this as it seems deceitful to get the card without purchasing the book. The problem I have is that my wife has a chronic illness that really limits her diet. We very rarely eat out in restaurants so the dining coupons in the book are not much use to us. The movie ticket coupons look good though.

I bought an Entertainment Card on eBay a few months ago.

There was a seller who had more than a thousand sales,

and the positive feedback was 99%.

The total cost of the card was $2.99.

HTH :earsboy:

It's OK to do, but I personally always buy the book. My book has 4 $5 coupons to the grocery store I use the most, and 4 more $5 coupons to a store I sometimes use, so it's well worth it to buy the book for 20 or 15 bucks. :)

The book isn't just restaurants, and watch out for the movie coupons...you still pay some towards the tickets. However your area probably has more expensive movies than my area, so it might be MORE worth it for you!

I bought 2 from an ebay seller on Saturday and they came in the mail today. I would love to give one away because I don't need 2!

I'll send it your way if you want it. I actually told the seller to keep it because I didn't need 2 but they sent it anyway.

I used to live in Seattle and the ticket prices ARE more expensive in the Bay Area. :)

FYI. I work for Entertainment. Starting July all books sold online will cost $35 which will include shipping. Many markets are going to see a rate increase due to 4 bonus cards ($5 gift cards) which will be on the cover. These 4 merchants will vary by market. Some markets will have no price increase with no cards, some will have no increase WITH cards, and some will have increase WITH cards. I'm in San Antonio and we will see a $5 increase plus 4- $5 gift cards. It is still a great value. The company decided to have a median price because some markets have a $30 book with a $5 shipping while some have as much as a $45 book plus a $5 shipping.

If you only want a card- pm me and I can send yo a free one. I still have a few that are valid until November 1, 2009. I will have my new books/ cards at the end of July and will be valid until November 1, 2010.

Additionally, you can buy a book later in season online for $10. You can have a card plus use coupons besides just dining. There are tons of savings for movies, entertainment, dry cleaning and car washes. We just bought tickets for Ringling Brothers and Disney on Ice for 50% off.
Good luck!

If I recall, I got my entertainment card from you as well. :goodvibes

We've already used it once and plan on using it again next month. ;)

Thanks again!!!

I don't THINK it's deceitful to buy the card online--HoJo doesn't care where you got it, and even allows sharing of cards.

I cannot recommend you buying from Entertainment directly, but if you do, I would suggest you order at least 3 weeks before you're leaving. I placed an order on 6/9 for one book with rush shipping, got a receipt for TWO books with rush shipping, and evidently am going to receive two books with STANDARD shipping, which will be coming to my home either during or after my vacation. :(

When I called them, they said there was absolutely no option to get a card to me on time--it takes 10-14 days to ship a card by itself (!), and there was no guarantee that overnight shipping for a book would arrive by Thursday, even though it was before 11 AM EST.

I had to spend 35 minutes on the line and talk to a supervisor to even get them to agree to send a new book with overnight shipping--at MY expense--to probably get a card on time. (They said they will take the "late" books back for a full refund--normally there is a $8 restocking fee--but we'll see if they do.)

So if you must order from them, I think you should allow more than ample time, and I'd suggest ordering via the phone. When I talked to a supervisor and spoke to her about the mistakes the website made (including my receipt that claimed rush shipping), she said it wasn't their fault what the website told me. :headache: At least if you ordered via phone, they MIGHT accept some responsibility for the situation if something were to go wrong.

Ok, so for our stay in Dec we need a new card....I need to remember that we can buy them in July......or I can PM you about a new card. :) I wonder what will be in our book for 2010? hmmmmmmmmmmm

I still think this is horrible!! :(

OP, I got mine on eBay, it was $5 with shipping and I had within a week.

Oh, and ballarinamom, no offense meant to you in regards to my poor experience. I'm sure you're a great employee...the people I spoke to, not so much (two were adequate and the supervisor was bad). And the website glitches have been a huge headache. Doubt you're responsible for any of those things. ;)

I continue to be amazed by the generosity of folks on the Dis. It is truly "magical". Carj (upthread) is going to send me a card and I'm thinking about buying a MA book and sending it to my sister. She has three kids and could really use all the discounts you listed. Thanks Ballarinamom.

Sorry for your bad experience. I think your problem originated from the fact that you are right in the gap of the 2009 book and 2010 book. All books were to be destroyed last week and this week as the new book is coming out any day. If you do not receive your card, I will UPS it over night to HoJo so you can receive the discount
As for the person on the phone, they are not direct employees of Entertainment. They work for a phone bank that we sub contract.
Again sorry and pm me if you do not have your card in time.

I'm with Hawley in that it is amazing to witness all the generosity here on the DIS. That was so very kind of you ballarinamom to offer to help!! I hope you don't mind if I too ask for your help. :flower3: I also need just the card. I'm sending you a PM. Thanks so much I really appreciate your help!! :thumbsup2

You rock!!!! :)

Wow; thank you so much, ballarinamom! The DISers are SO sweet and you're a great representative of your company, too.

I actually got my book/card today, though. So depending on how they handle the returns I could come out as few as $5 behind where I'd be if they'd filled my order as requested.

Subcontracted, huh? That's really interesting...it would explain why they don't have the authority to do anything much and didn't seem willing or able to think outside the box.

I just got the 2009 book for San Diego for $15 free shipping and a bunch of Mypoints points. We have alreday used 20 worth of savings, but had actually gotten it for a stay at HOJO!!
