If you were to go to Las Vegas....

for 4 days and you don't gamble what is there to do after you've walked the strip. Do you need to rent a car? We are looking for a relatively inexpensive long weekend trip for our anniversary in October. Any ideas?

There is lots to do! For discounts on shows, check out openvegas.com. You can get some really good deals. There are also half price ticket booths in Vegas where you can get discounted shows for that night. You don't need a car, so put that money towards the room/entertainment/food. Walking the strip and taking in the sights takes a long time. It's a lot longer than it looks in pictures. We would usually walk up an end of the strip and Taxi back to our hotel, usually less than $10. There are also buses, if you don't mind riding with crowds. DH and I are going to be in Vegas next week.

I've never rented a car. We always use the Duece bus.....we buy a day pass, as many trips as you want. It goes to the outlet mall....where there is a Disney outlet

Last trip BBF and I did only free things. It filled our 4 days. Carnival at the Rio, water show at the Wynn, pirate show at Treasure Island, Volcano at Mirage, M&M movie, walking around the Forum shops is fun, lions at MGM, over to Fremont street to walk around too, walked the strip and looked in all the resorts, Bellagio fountain, chocolate fountain there too.

You can walk but distances are deceptive in Vegas. They also have a monorail but it doesn't cover the entire strip. I don't think I'd rent a car because of the other ways of getting around.

There are a lot of good shows. I think you'll have a great time!

There are a bunch of tours too. Ask the concierge at the hotel. Hoover Dam is not that far and there's hiking and horseback riding in Red Rock Canyon. A lot of those places will pick up on the Strip as well.

As others have said, most of the hotels are worth wandering around themselves. They are all so different and almost all of them have some sort of free show.

There's plenty to do in Vegas but as pp have said it will take some time if you plan to walk the entire strip. It is very long.

You can stop into each hotel/casino even if you don't gamble just to check out the theming and there is usually some type of free "show" at each one...the fountains at Mirage, the laser lights at Luxor, etc.

You can spend a day poolside at your hotel, you can see shows, ride rides, take a Hoover dam tour, get married (LOL), the list is endless. Vegas is not just for gamblers anymore.

We went for 8 days last trip and we only rented a car one day to drive to a golf course. I don't think you'll need one, the buses and cabs are great although the buses do get a little crowded.

And if you don't have on near you, I suggest you try a Fatburger...fast food but excellent.

Well I like to have cocktails so just the bars and lounges could keep me busy for 4 days. We usually drive there so have a car but I have flown. You couldn't pay me to take the bus there or the monorail for that matter. The monorail stops are in the back of the hotels and some are a real long walk from their drop off/pick up stops to the front of the hotel. Also Oct can be quite warm so if you pick a hotel with a nice pool that could be something to do as well.

I love Vegas, and I really don't gamble very much at all.....maybe $20 or so in the slot machines, and that's about it.

You can go to the old downtown, that's fun to walk through, and they have that video show with music, on that overhead screen, nightly, I think.

Once when we went there, we signed-up for a river rafting trip. It wasn't one of those wild rafting trips, it was very smooth and no white rapids or anything like that. It started at the base of Hoover damn. I think it lasted about 4 hours. There were about 20 people, and everyone gets on one large raft. We met at a specified location that morning, (I can't remember which hotel), and then they take you on a bus to where the trip begins. By the time you take the bus there, do the rafting down the river, and then get back to Vegas, it's pretty much the whole day.

There are also many comedy shows you can go to. Donny & Marie have a show. And there are many other shows you can go to with popular entertainers.

And then there's the food. Some great food to be eaten out there!!

There certainly isn't a lack of things to do.

As everyone has stated; there are plenty of things to do for non-gamblers in Vegas.

I just wanted to recommend cheapovegas.com - I found it to be an excellent resource on free/low cost activities and they have reviews that I found enjoyable to read, etc.

Also, don't under-estimate the fun of people watching in Vegas. One warning: beware the people offering discount or free show tickets - they are timeshare salespeople (we call them vultures) and they will start their speil with friendly banter like where are you from? The often are placed in hotel lobbies or near the entrances to catch the crowds walking by.

Yeah..my usually easy going DH hollered "NO" at those people once because he was just so sick of it.....it was so funny because he usually isn't like that, but he had had enough.

We usually get nice hotel rooms and order room service and chill by the pool when we go to Vegas. We are boring Vegas people but it's really relaxing to have no time schedule whatsoever.

We went once and didn't rent a car and I will never do that again....

I love Vegas and am not a big gambler. I would have no problem with the not gambling part of your question - but the inexpensive part would be a problem. I like the fancy hotels and the upscale dinning. I like the $10 drinks and the best seats for the shows. We go to Vegas a couple of times a year. I can spend in three days (without gambling) in Vegas what I would spend for 7 in Disney

Just wanted to add that it's not at all unusual to enjoy Vegas and not gamble. It's a great adult vacation spot, and frankly, I don't know anyone who gambles beyond maybe a few quarters in the slots. It's far much fun spending money on shows, The Fashion Mall (love that place!) , and the amazing restaurants!
