Chef Mickey, breakfast or dinner?

We did CM for breakfast on our trip in Jan and loved it! I made my dad and his gf join us for our Nov trip (Disney virgins, I know, how is this possible? :confused3). My dad is getting into the Disney spirit now and is into the idea of doing character meals and now also wants the DDP. It's amazing what showing a few menus will do :).

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Breakfast or try dinner at CM? I've read mixed reviews on dinner. I really disliked 1900 Park Fare dinner buffet, so if it's anything like that we probably won't like CM for dinner. My only issue w/ breakfast is that I have an incredibly picky DH. He eats a plate full of bacon and a bowl of cereal. He does like over easy eggs and chocolate chip pancakes, but I don't think I saw those options at CM. It's hard to justify the cost when he doesn't eat anything. However, if dinner is terrible, I'd much rather do breakfast and have DH try to eat his weight's worth in bacon. :lmao:

My other issue. Doing breakfast at Boma. Now that Dad and his gf are doing the DDP, I worry that it's a poor use of dining credits to do 2 breakfasts. They keep telling me to decide and they'll go w/ whatever I want....

We have doneboth Chef Mickeys and 1900 PF dinner with our nieces, while the character interaction was awesome at both the food at both was horrible, to the point of inedible.

We have done both for breakfast as well, 1900 PF was terrible again but Chef Mickeys was excellent..I have a ton of pictures and full review in my March link....we would go back there again in a heartbeat.

We loved the breakfast at Chef Mickey's! They had plenty of bacon and cereal for your DH ;) and they also had desserts, if he is into that at all.

The variety was wonderful at the breakfast. They had more "adult" breakfast foods like lox, corned beef hash, etc., plus creative and cute child-friendly items like breakfast pizza (with bacon and eggs).

The food was excellent, but we got so nervous when we got there. You see, we had a 7AM ADR for the time they open, but a HUGE group of about 100 people (NO exaggeration) came in at the same time we did. We thought for sure we would have to wait forever at the buffet line to get food, so I rushed up there to grab some things for my sons, then DH and I took turns rushing up there to get our food while that huge group was having their photos taken at the entrance. However, I went back up for seconds after they were all seated and still had no problem with the line! We were both very pleased with that. Perhaps this had more to do with the fact that this group seemed like a very nice and polite bunch of people (I don't recall any pushing, shoving or complaining from what I saw or heard), than the service of the restaurant, or both. We loved CHef Mickey's and we are also debating whether to do breakfast or dinner there next year, but we are leaning more towards breakfast since it was so good and we could go very early on an MK day before rope drop!

well, I've done both at both restuarants -- We hated breakfast at 1900 park fare - loved it at Chef Mickeys. Dinner at both places were the same, I would say as food goes. The character and the fun level at Chef Mickeys way out did Park Fare. The whole feel at Chef Mickeys is great!!!!
We eat there every trip. I just made ADR this morning for dinner :cutie:
I rather do a dinner at a sit down meal, I just feel I'm getting more of my money's worth.

We had dinner at CM our last evening and I have to say it was the worst meal of our week. And that's saying something considering DH had a really bad experience with his meal at Chefs de France. The meat at CM was dry and leathery. The sauces on foods that had them were congealed (brocoli & cheese sauce; beef stroganoff - or at least I think that's what it was pretending to be). The ravioli were edible (and cute) but the sauce was very strongly spiced with just one spice and pretty unappetizing. Even the deserts weren't that good - only the little mickey oreo truffle things were tasty - everything else was either stale or hard. The icecream was soft serve and hadn't really set yet. Add to that our waiter was curt and very rushed - he took my son's plate while he had the pizza in his hand and never once asked if we wanted refills on our drinks & we had to chase him down for the check.

We have done Chef Mickey way to many times for bk & din and we still do it. Love the place . The food is good it's fun and u really feel the Disney feeling when your here. I can't wait to go back in Aug/Sep/.

We definitely prefer breakfast over the dinner food at Chef Mickey's. I think after two horrible experiences at H&V at dinne time that we've been turned off dinner buffets (with excpetion of Biergarten & Cape May Cafe). The last time we did dinner at Chef Mickey's the food was only so-so.

CM is amazing both bk and din. been there dozens ov times .. a real dis fan would tell u that its great. h&v dont even compare to cm :rotfl2:

Of course it doesn't--there are no characters. But the last time we were there the food wasn't much better at CM for dinner than it was H&V...just our opinion.

Breakfast is very good at Chef Mickeys! Love it.

That's how I feel, especially w/ the DDP. DH and I aren't doing it but Dad and his gf are and I'd feel so bad wasting so much of their money on a bad meal since I'm the "expert." lol.

I read your review of Chefs! I was horrified! I re-read it yesterday to see if there had been any updates and wouldn't ya know I had a dream about it last night, lol. I don't eat fish, but I did in my dream and BUGS came crawling out of it:scared1:. Thank you for your detailed review of the food at CM, it reminds me of my review of 1900 PF dinner buffet. Only a few things that were edible. I definitely don't want to waste money on another dinner like that.

In the back of my mind I was hoping you would reply :rolleyes1. I remember reading your 1900 PF dinner review a couple of months after I wrote mine and while your was much more detailed, our reactions were pretty similar. I couldn't think of words to describe the food other than yuk, lol. I would have much preferred a greasy cs burger.

I'm so hit or miss about what I like as far as dinner food goes, I'm afraid to try more dinner buffets, hence my post, lol. 1900 PF was just so bad, I'm really afraid CM will be too. I've read about the same amount of mixed reviews from CM dinner as I did for 1900 PF dinner before we went.

Soooo, I think breakfast it is again! Maybe I'll give the other two the option to not go use a credit at Boma and just DH, DD and I will go. I absolutely cannot miss Boma breakfast!

Thanks for all the help guys!

Please keep in mind CM, 1900, CP ETC. These are buffets not Gourmet meals. It's good average food. I'm not getting when ppl say it's horriable. I really don't know what ppl are expecting. It's not only about the food. It's the experience. If ppl want better food then they step it up to the 2tb service meals. I respect the fact that everybody has there own opinion. I really do. I just don't get horrible . And I have been to these places for BK & Dinner many of times.

Honestly I didn't like the dinner foods at CM at all, but we have a four year old that loves Mickey, so guess who's going back to CM for dinner again this year. I won't say it's terrible, just not great. (BTW we didn't like the dinner foods at Park Fare either:upsidedow)

I like breakfast at the buffets much better but it doesn't always work with our touring schedule.

As long as the adults know they aren't going to character buffets for the "food" everyone will have a great time.

Is CM the only Choice for a restaurant?
There are so many more very good choices for food
and I have found that most Restaurants at WDW have
a Disney feel so I wouldn't limit my choices to just one.

No, they're doing the regular DDP, so we'll be choosing more TS. CM is just the one I really want them to go to. My dad is all about meeting Mickey, and I know how much we loved the characters at breakfast in January.

We're planning, 50's PTC, Sci-Fi, Boma. So far that's it, I'll take any other suggestions. DH and I tried Le Cellier, Tutto and Chefs last time so we'd like to try new things. We'll be doing WPC in July.

Hi,

I didn't go there expecting gourmet food - I went there expecting EDIBLE food. What we got was NOT edible. :sad2: Everything was dry and chewy or congealed and chewy or so spicy it was intolerable or just totally unappetizing (one of the dishes was so fatty I took one bite and left it) - frankly I didn't even recognize a couple of the dishes. DH tried the salad bar and DS(13) tried the fruits and said they were only okay - not as fresh as they could be and not that great a selection. The soups were also congealed; broths were thick and chunky. For the kids food only the pizza was remotely edible - the chicken nuggets were - again - chewy and the mac and cheese was crunchy (let's here it for cooking the pasta long enough:confused3). We left there and were still hungry because we were only able to eat a few bites. And as I stated our Waiter stank! But... maybe we had a bad night I don't know. I have only been the once and can only report on my experience.

I booked this meal so the kids could meet Mickey and Pluto and the kids did have a good time with the characters (but had a better time at Cape May). I'm just saying that I wouldn't eat dinner there again. I'd either try breakfast or skip it altogether.

We were on the DDP, ate at several other TS restaurants that were definitely not classed in the 2TS level and had really good meals; we ate Tutto, WCC and Tony's (our favorite of the week). We did eat one other buffet - Cape May for breakfast - and loved that.

Oh, no! :scared: We are planning on eating at CM for the first time in September. Hopefully they were just having a bad night...so sorry about your bad experience.
