International Visitors making ADRs

Just wanted to hear of anyone's experience making ADRs from non-US locations. I am calling all the way from Australia so I am a bit concerned about the time it will take for the call to connect, will I be able to get through? Also, I understand the calls can be quite lengthy, I think I will need to check with my phone company as to their international rates or I might be  when bill time comes around.

Apart from this, any tips ?? :goodvibes

Thanks!

I'm in England and have made several ADR phone calls to WDW and Disneyland. In the UK you can use telediscount numbers to phone, so you put a code in before you phone the US number you want and it makes your call a lot cheaper. So my 35 minute phone call to WDW DINE a few weeks ago was 35 minutes long (17 minutes of that on hold, the rest talking to a CM and making the ADR's) cost me 35p (about $0.5 US). In terms of getting through, you are in a queue just like anyone else calling in so it depends how busy it is! I guess the opening time benifits us as 7am WDW time is 12pm lunch time here so we don't have to be up early. I guess for you it will be evening time, so even better.

I don't know if it works but I put money into my skype account to call Disney for my ADRs. I live in Turkey and a regular phone call would be way too expensive. Has anyone tried skype for this - a skype to phone connection?

I make ADR"s from Ireland. I googled cheap call from Ireland to USA and found a company that gives you an access code for a much cheaper rate if that makes sense. I have been using them now for 3 years. They charge 1p per min as opposed to my telephone company who would charge 25p!!

We were at WDW for 21 nights last year so we had a lot of ADR's to make, so were on the phone for a while.

Rather than dialing 0011 to call out of the country, you can dial 0018 if you are with telstra and you buy a half hour block instead of being charged by the minute. Along the way it gives you a few beeps, when you are at 15 minutes, then at 5 minutes then one minute away, then a whole heap of beeps when your time is up and you move into the next 1/2 hour block (they are not really loud, just loud enough so you can hear them). I always use the 1/2 hr block when calling hotels etc overseas as you can be on the phone for a while.

Call costs for the 1/2 can be as little as $5.25 for the half hour.
http://www.telstra.com.au/homephone/call_types_rates/internat_calls.cfm?#tab-standard there are the details and the costs with telstra.

We're in Australia too and went to WDW in 2007. From what I've read it was was much easier to book then than it was last time. I don't think any of my calls lasted more than 10minutes and I never had a wait time of more than a couple of minutes. But then I wasn't travelling during free dining either. This time we are staying CL for the first week so I am having the CL IPO book my first weeks ADR's. But then we are back there again towards the end of free dining for 12nights and I'm a bit nervous about getting what we want. I just plan on being ready to call right on 9pm to try and minimise wait times.

Ahhhh thanks for that I'm looking into it now! And if thats fails me I will have a look at calling cards like the other posters suggested.

Hopefully it works ok.

Thanks for your help guys!

Yes its 9pm isn't it, for east coast Australia??

It's much better than 7am for me!! ;)

Gosh me too. I can't think to do anything in the morning until I've had my coffee. I'd have to allow at least 1/2 before 7am to wake up first and have coffee.

I'm a bit nervous at the moment. I'm 52 mins off my first weeks ADR's being booked. I'm sort of wishing I had decided to do it myself instead of leaving it in the hands of someone else. I hope they let me know quickly.

Hope you get what you want. We are cruising after our 7 nights at WDW and are then back at WDW by the 26th so my next ADR date will be the 28th. But we are not staying onsite for the 2nd stay so will have to ring everyday. Tonight, I'm getting more nervous, the closer I get to 9:00pm.

It works perfectly. I use Skype for all my long-distance calls, including those to WDW. At 2.4cents a minute to call anywhere in North America, it's hard to beat. Cost me 1.50$ for my 60 minutes dining reservation call this morning...

Thanks for the answer! I wasn't sure how skype would work calling WDW - I am encouraged - puts my mind at ease as I get ready to call for my dining reservations. So cheap!!:banana::banana:
