In 2007 we did the hoop de do review. Even though we were on the dining plan I paid out of pocket for a category 1. Food OK,I drank my share of wine and b we really enjoyed the show (especially my boys who are now 8 & 11).

Going back again now 9/24-9/29 and would love to do another dinner show. I am in the same boat.. already have 5 restaurants we want to eat at. I don't want to use my TS credits...so is the Luau worth the money to pay out of pocket?

Little off topic, but I was thinking about taking my 9yo DD to the luau. How old were your boys when they went?

I personally don't think so. I did it once and that is more than enough. The free wine and beer are so cheap, that I wouldn't drink them. The food was so so. The show was kind of corny, but cute. It is not like a real Luau, so don't go with that expectation. I was on the DLXDDP and still did not feel it was worth 2 TS credits.

The show is Okay and same with the food but it is such a beautiful setting at the Polyenisian. I wont do it again for a while but I am glad that I did it.

The show is okay. It's good to go at least once. Another fun place is Mickey's backyard BBQ :thumbsup2

DH and I really enjoyed it. I thought the food was really good. The dancing and fire parts of the show were really good. The children were allowed to come up on the stage and they seemed to really enjoy it. I think it's worth it.

We loved the luau! The food was very flavorful and I wish I could get that special rice here! My DD loved it so much, when she & her DH honeymoon this September, she's taking him to the show.

Yes, the show storyline is cheesy, but the dancing is awesome. We would definately do this show again but I want to wait a few years so it's more fresh.

We did the luau when we stayed at the Poly in Sept '07 and we loved it :goodvibes. We thought the food was great and the show was cute....the fire dancers at the end were awesome :thumbsup2. We were on the DDP but we chose to pay OOP for category 1 and we had great seats right up front by the stage....we couldn't have asked for better seats :wizard:. The luau is something we will do again, just not every trip ;).

our next trip will be the second time seeing it and we love it you just use the 2 TS and pay out of pocket for a meal. yeah the first part is a little cheesy but its mostly for the kids and is rather funny. we thought the food was great the ribs were amazing. i dont see why it is getting some negative reviews we very much enjoyed the dinner show. i also love it cause i took hula classes for a few years so its exciting to see it in that setting for me

Thanks for all the opinions.:)

Just to be clear we have never been to the Luau before. We did do the hoop de doo and loved it. My boys are 8 & 10 now, my nephews who will be with us are 11 & 14. I deffinately want to do a dinner & show....so the question is try something new (go to Spirit of Aloha) or something else (other suggestions welcomed) or go back to hoop de doo?:confused3

I am planning this trip for my family and my brother's. I really want to show them the best time...the best of disney.:wizard:

We were there and April and we thought it was great. I wasn't extremely excited about it going in because I had been as a kid and I remembered it as pretty boring. I anticipated that it would be strictly hard core luau type dancing (which I think it was back in the 80's) but it had a cute little story line that kept you watching, plus they had some traditional dances (which was enough for me). I enjoyed the food (the salad dressing was amazing). I wouldn't go for the free beer and wine because you never know how much you will get, but I ended up getting more than I even wanted (I think 3 beers). The waitress kept them coming even if I still had a half glass. My DS14 liked it "OK" but he wasn't enthralled by it, although most 14 yr. olds aren't enthralled by much... It's a lot of money, but most things Disney are; I wouldn't say we paid much more there than most of the TS restaurants we went to. I think your 8&10 year olds will love it, and they will have an opportunity to go onstage.

DH and I are booked (and paid-got the bill this week) for August. We're on the Dining plan (not free), but I decided to do OOP, so that I could do Cat 1. They only had cat 3 left, and, while I know that that would be okay, this is a special trip so. . . . Thanks for the review. It sounds like I made a good choice. And when you don't even have to leave your resort, what could be better?

never been but my DBF and I are booked there for our upcoming aug vacation! it looks nice and we're excited for it :)

We're doing it on our upcoming Honeymoon. I've heard mixed reviews but we're willing to give it a try and make up our own minds.

My family loves HDD but we did not enjoy the Luau at all. We were miserably hot! The food was just ok. My boys (9 and 11) thought the show was lame. If were me, I'd go back to HDD. We've been back several times and still enjoy it.:thumbsup2
