Since when are DVC members charged to use SSR health club?

DD is at OKW right now with friends. They went over to exercise at SSR spa and when they were leaving and returning their locker key, the guy at the desk told them it was $12.00 each!! DD told him she thought it was free for DVC members as she has used it last summer many times. He was nice enough to allow them not to pay.

Since when did this change?

There was a long thread on this earlier in the year or late last year. It's not paying to use the exercise equipment, I don't think - it's paying to use the spa's locker room facility. So while the gym is free, you can't use the spa's sauna/hot tub (whatever - haven't been there) & other facilities that are for spa guests.

So they can use the treadmill and such but not the locker room?? Where would they put their stuff?

DH is going to be quite furious with this loss of privelege. He uses the health club and locker room all the time when we are there for our 2 weeks every summer!!!

I'm no expert on this having never used the facilities there (exercise + me on vacation is a no go). I was hoping someone else more in the know would add to my post.

But what I recall is - you can use the fitness center but there's another (apparently small and not so nice) location where you can change clothes, shower I assume, it might have lockers or not, I can't remember. It was just the "spa" part of the whole thing you couldn't use if you weren't actually a spa customer. I guess because the spa is outsourced and they must have changed their agreement with DVC or Disney.

You might try a search or SSR spa or something similar and see if the thread comes up - it was a pretty long discussion from what I recall.

Thanks Vicki!! I was telling DH last night and he was really bummed out (me too although I am somewhat like you and don't use it as much as he and DD do).

Does anyone else have any futher info on why and when this changed?

I wonder if you could buy a 'length of stay' type pass? DH likes the steam room after his workout........

Wow that is a bummer, one of things I liked best about SSR. When I was their with wife we would walk over after long day at park. Use steam room, hot tub and just relax...also a nice workout facility.
