Part One of my Dancing Weekend
I'm back after a very long, tiring, yet fun weekend. Let's start with Friday.
Friday, June 5th
I started the day by dropping Madison off at school and then I headed off to the salon. It's one of those places where you don't need an appointment, so I got there right when they opened. All I needed was a shampoo and style. I wanted my hair straight for the recital that evening and I did not have the time or patience to do it myself that day. After I left with my gorgeously straight hair, I ran to the craft store to pick up some safety pins. You can never have too many! Once I got home, I relaxed for awhile and pretty soon, it was time to pick up Madison from school.
I had to pick her up super early that day (right after lunch). You see, her class was taking a field trip to the fire station and they were getting back right before school let out. I needed to have enough time to get myself together for the recital AND curl her hair. When we got home, it was time to get down to business. At her class feis, I found out about these curlers called soft spike curls, so I bought some. They were very easy to use and you'll see the results soon enough. Once her hair was all in curlers, it was make-up time for me. I then ate a huge plate of pasta (to keep myself full during the recital) and once Tony came home, I was off to the recital!!!
Once I was done helping out with the things that needed to be done (hang signs, move tables, etc) I helped some of my students get ready. Here are those pictures I promised!
My Intermediate Ballet class (ages 10-12) They danced to a medley from "Oklahoma." It started with "O What a Beautiful Mornin'" and then went into "Oklahoma." This was their ending pose for their dance, but done in the hallway.
Then, they wanted to take a goofy picture! I love these girls!
Here's me (in the middle) with my Advanced Ballet class. We danced to "Dreamer" by (don't be mad at me) Chris Brown. I picked this song WAY before he got in trouble. It was used during the Olympics!!!
So, those are my pics from Friday's show. They all did a great job and the show went very smoothly. Afterwards, the teachers and I went out for drinks and snacks. I stayed out WAY too late. I didn't get home until midnight and I had to wake up around 5:30am the next day. Not a good idea!

Part Two
It was almost impossible for me to get going Saturday morning, but I knew that I couldn't slack off. Madison had her first real feis, and I wanted to get there early. I got myself ready first, and then I woke up Tony & Madison. She was pretty tired too. While they ate breakfast, I finished packing up all the things we'd need that day. Then, it was time to tackle those curlers! I must say, they worked wonderfully! Once I took out each curler, I had to separate each curl into three pieces and then hairspray it to death! Anyways....once her hair was all set, we headed off to the Erie County Fairgrounds. We got there around 7:30am and had plenty of time to get ready. First, we picked up her competitor number and then we made our way to her "stage" to get her ready. (The stages are just made of wood and are about 2 inches high).
Her she is all dressed and ready to go.
Look at that hair!!! It really did almost look like an Irish dancing wig. That's her "stage" behind her.
Her group was 1st and 3rd on her stage. In Irish dancing, you compete at different levels (beginner, advanced beginner, novice, open/prizewinner, preliminary champion and open champion) in your own age group. It goes by your age as of Jan 1st of the competition year, so Madison dances in the Beginner Under 7 age group. Her group was so large that it had to broken up into an A and B group. Each group had 17 competitors and she was in the B group. Right now, she just knows 2 dances-the Reel and the Jig (both soft shoe). She performed her reel first, got a short break and then danced her jig. I thought she did a great job with both, but she danced her jig a bit too fast. It was ok, it was only her first feis!
After dancing, we decided to go look at some of the vendors that were there. There is always a vendor there that sells shoes, socks, etc (they are at every feis). There was also a vendor selling feis t-shirts, so we got her one of those. They also had Irish dancing scrapbook stuff, tiaras, jewelry, flags....the list goes on and on. Also in that room was the results. They have papers they hang on the wall with each group # on it (her reel was 9B and her jig was 10B). Underneath the #, it lists the places (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) with the competitor number next to it. How many places they give out kind of depends on the size of the group. In Madison's reel, they placed 1st through 5th place and she got 4th place!!!! We were all so happy and so proud of her!

We love Greek food and it didn't let us down. Afterwards, we all went to my parents house to make s'mores. Once I got home, I got changed and fell fast asleep. I had another long day ahead of me!

Part Three
I didn't have to wake up quite as early on Sunday. I set my alarm for about 8am. I woke up exhausted and sore. I did so much sitting on hard benches and walking around at the Feis and my back was killing me. Well, I had no time to waste, so I woke up and started getting ready. I had to make sure I had all my costumes, tights, shoes, etc for the recital. After Madison woke up and ate breakfast, I gave her a quick bath/shower. Her hair was still very curly, so I made sure I gave it a good conditioning. I also sprayed her hair with the detangling spray that I have. Well, let me tell you...combing her hair was an almost impossible thing to do. My arm was killing me!!! There were so many knots that I thought were never going to come out. I had to keep taking breaks!!! I did eventually get through it, but it was not fun, for either one of us. I then picked out a cute outfit for her to wear to the recital.
I then had to finish getting myself ready. My wonderful husband went to Tim Horton's for me. Tim Horton's is a wonderful place that sells donuts, bagels, coffee and my personal favorite, Iced Cappucinno's. Delish! After eating and applying my make-up, it was time once again to leave for recital #2. The show once again went very smoothly and was over much too quickly. Here are some more pics from yesterday.
Here's my Int class again with me, but they're all dressed for the beginning of the show. Most of them were in the Opening number (a cool jazzy version of "God Bless America").

Here is my Trio. It was a lyrical dance to "Hometown Glory" by Adele.
In case you couldn't tell, we had a patriotic/American theme this year. It was called "Dancing Across America". Our finale was "America" by Neil Diamond. Other songs in the show were "New York, New York", "Hooray for Hollywood", "California Girls", "Buffalo Gals", "God Bless the USA"....it was a lot of fun.
Once the show was over, it was time to pick everything up. Time to take down the signs, the backdrops, etc. It was kind of sad. However, we started something new last year. The week after the recital is "Fun Week" at the studio. Everyone comes to the studio at their regular class time. We encourage the students to bring a friend or two and have them try out a class. We try to think of fun dance activities for everyone to do. Last year, I also brough in a pizza for me kids for the end of class. We sat around and talked about ideas for next year, things they liked this year, etc. It was nice and relaxed and you got to say "good-bye" to everyone until next year.
Thanks for letting me tell all of you about my crazy weekend. I sure had a lot of fun! On the Disney front, I don't really have anything new to share with you. Oh wait!! Disney extended some MK and DHS hours! They also added another Spectromagic at 11pm each evening. Plus, on Fantasmic days, they added a second show at 10:30pm. Fantasmic is only going to be shown one night while we're there. We were going to just skip it all together after reading horror stories about getting a seat. Do you think we should try to stay and see the 2nd show? I'm not sure what to do.

WOW!! You DID have a busy weekend! I loved all of the pictures! Ally has her dance recital this weekend with dress rehearsal on Thursday night--she's sooo excited!! I like the idea of your fun week--it sounds like fun and a great way for girls to try dance before they sign-up!! Sorry, I can't help with the Fantasmic thing. We waited in line for an hour in the rain and lightning to hear that it was cancelled. We didn't get to see it--next time, though!!

It was a jam packed weekend for sure. I hope that Ally has a wonderful recital this weekend! As far as Fantasmic goes, I think we'll just decide once we get there. I don't want to over think things. I know we'll see it eventually.

Hey I have been reading your whole PJ (and I dont think I ever posted but I could be wrong)... anyways.. I am from Buffalo too!! I live in Memphis TN now though (my mom can't wait til our drive home for the wedding when she can see her first tim hortons and get an iced cap..i don't drink coffee or anything but love their hot smoothies!)
Ok onto the disney topic....
I was just there and am going back in 3 weeks for a 2 week honeymoon...
I suggest going nowhere near the first showing of fantasmic... we walked by at 8:10 and the 9:00 was already standing room only!!! Fantasmic is my favorite show there so I endure the lines... so at about 8:40 I lined up for the 10:30.. AWFUL. People were crammed on top of me and that has NEVER happened before!! However, it didn't get as crowded in that one and if you aren't worried about having the perfect seat (like I am) then just go in at like 9:45 or 10 and find a seat. A lot of people said that the earlier show is so packed because people want their kids to see the early one and go to bed? I don't know if that's the real reason or not.
Ok I think that is all I wanted to say (I got distracted by talking about wedding stuff with my fiance... I clearly can't multi-task after a week in disney.. body=exhausted!)

I'm worn out just reading about your weekend! Sounds like it was great. Congrats to your daughter, she placed her first time out and she looked so cute. I bet your students love you.
Orginally I planned on hitting F! on our last night 6/28 but now I think I'll hit it at the late showing on 6/23. We have an 8 ARD at WCC,if we can make it back in time. I'm loving having two spectros each night, more choice.

Thanks for reading! I'm not sure about the whole Fantasmic thing yet. I'll have to talk it over with my family. I hope that you have a wonderful wedding!
Loved reading about your weekend - it sounded like a lot of fun!
Very tiring but very fun.
My students and I have a very special bond. They're my extended family. I do like the 2 showings of Spectro, but I think we're still going to hit up the earlier one. 11pm is a bit too late for my early EMH family!

Madison really did a great job. She brought in her medals and pictures to school today for show and tell.
My girls are really quite goofy!
