think I read somewhere while ago that you can phone (could be mousekeeping) and let them know there is unused supplies left at departure.

we always have water, juice, unopened butter, cans of coke etc left over not touched and feel it is such a waste throwing them all out . sure I read you can call someone and they go to a good home

being from the UK we can't take them with us

My DW checked once and was told that Mousekeeping is allowed to keep anything that is left behind which is unopended. So, some soda cans, bottled water or even a few beers can go home with the the staff.

Leftover ice cream, opended condiments, etc, are put in the trash.

Does anyone know anything different?

I always leave the usable things that we can't take with us in the refrigerator or on the kitchen counter. Maybe I'm doing a housekeeper a dis-service and making them throw them away, but I figure if they want them, they can take them. If nothing else, I'm sure there's no shortage of ketchup and mustard containers in the employee break room. That's something I always leave behind.

Last trip, I posted here what I had left, and passed it on to some soon-arriving DIS'ers for their trip! We had a case of water and some Dr Pepper that we ordered from Garden Grocer. It was quick to go, and I left with Bell Services with the next guest's name and arriving date on them. I figure that way I KNOW it's going to someone that will use it. And I'm a big pay-it-forward kinda gal! :thumbsup2

What a GREAT idea!! Oct/Nov will be our first DVC trip, if we have anything left over I am going to pay-it-forward too! Thanks for the tip!!!

In the past we've given unopened beverages (water, soda, juice) to valet or bell services - they really appreciate it, especially bottled water!

We left two six packs of beer and an unopened bottle of wine. I hope Mousekeeping enjoyed the gift!:woohoo:

If you decied to leave some things in the room that you don't mind passing on to the Mousekeeping staff be sure to leave a note saying it is OK for them to take it.

I spoke with our Mousekeeper on a trip a few years back and asked her if she wanted any of our unopened things and she was very happy to take them. She did ask that I write a little note saying that she had permission to "take" the items because, technically, they are still guests' property.

Since then, we have always just left a little note saying how much we enjoyed our stay and to please help yourself to anything that you would enjoy, etc.

You might as well throw it out instead of leaving it for Housekeeping to throw out.

Last year a DISer gave our group 3 cases of water. She posted here and said when she was leaving. We were very grateful! :)

We always give extra beer/soda/water to bell services when they pick up our luggage.

We had a handful of unopened waters on our last trip that I was hoping to fit into our Owners Locker to save for our next trip but I could only fit 1 or 2 of them. We each kept a bottle to have until we got to the security line at the airport & I gave the remaining ones to the bell service guy who helped us get out of the room. He said they put them in the back & that they come in handy for the bell staff. Everything else we had on that trip had been opened so I pitched it.

We always go down and find someone just arriving and give the unopened things to them. I last gave nearly half a case of water to one couple, and she wanted to pay me for it! I told her to just pay it forward to someone else at the end of their trip. I've given away pasta, cans of sauce, and unopened ice cream bars too. I throw away anything that's opened though.

Last trip we left a few cans of beer & a bottle of wine, we came back to the room because we forgot something & the mousekeeper was dumping it all down the drain. We asked why she didn't take it & she said they are not allowed to take the alcoholic beverages.

everything that is unopened goes to whoever is checking in the day we're leaving (yes, we will stand in the hall, awaiting someone for us to ask). the take-me's normally includes wine, chips, cookies, etc.
laundry detergent & softener is left in the laundry room with a "take me" note.
bottles of water, norm about 1/2 case, go to bell services (they really appreciate water, btw!).
of course, any opened/unsealed food is thrown out (we do clean the unit before leaving too :rolleyes1).

The Mousekeepers take what ever they can. Watching them leave work at four o'clock you will see some with grocery bags full of items. One day the girl from our floor had a potted plant that a Guest had left behind.

A year ago we had a room over the coartyard at the BCV's and you wouldn't believe how many brown paper bags I'd see mousekeeping carry out every single day! I'd say it's a wonderful added perk of this job, and much deserved. They work darn hard for those extras and their pay is probably awful.
