using the bathroom? Tryanair recently said it is going to start charging to use the bathroom in its airplanes. I had heard this before and thought it was a joke. But it seems like Tryanair is going to put a credit card swiper on its bathrooms. The news also said they will probably take out a couple of toilets to make room for a few more seats. Personally that is right up there with charging for water on a flight. I don' t care how cheap the seats are I don't think I would fly with a airline that was so cheap they had to charge customers to use the bathroom.

Since I rarely use the airplane bathroom on shorter trips, so I would probably book with them. I might rethink it for longer trips. I find that too many people are moving around the plane, maybe this will reduce that to only those who really need to use the facilities.

One will have to have a CC or debit car or pee themselves.:rotfl:

Absolutely NOT! I am not going to go with my kids into the restroom to swipe a CC for them. That will be the day I start driving to Orlando.
Curious what the charge would be.

LOL ......... image someone is airsick/ food sick needs to throw up fast how do they handle getting their credit card out of their overhead carry on baggage and swiped to the bathroom door in time to avoid an accident. is throwing up in the aisle a "refund" to the airline ??

Did you mean Ryanair? If so, we flew on them numerous times when we lived in Germany. We could fly form Frankfurt to London for less than $50 roundtrip. It is a no frills airline, no assigned seating, no snacks. I would definitely pay to use the rest room for great airfare that saves me hours of driving. And, in Europe it is not uncommon to pay to use a rest room. Many public restrooms are coin operated and you cannot open the door without inserting the specified amount of Euro.

Nope, no way. I'm sick to death of the nickle & diming when we fly already, and I've found that I'm not saving anything by going with the cut-rate airlines anyway. I suppose if overnight ALL airlines adopted such a policy, I'd have to get over it for trips where driving is impossible, but I'd be doing a lot more driving vacations.

After being the unfortunate person who has been seated right next to the bathroom before, there are some people who use airplane bathrooms that should have to pay the people seated around the bathroom before they go in :).

I would definitely use an airline that charged for bathroom use if it meant lower fares. I never use it anyways.

Ryanair is soooo inexpensive that YES I would pay to use the restroom. We lived in Europe for 5 years and I think the most we ever paid for a one way flight on Ryanair was about $20 from Venice to London. The rest of our trips were in the $9 to $15 range one way!

The news report I read said it would be about a pound per use so around $1.50 or so depending on the exchange rate. Totally worth it if that is how they decide to make their money. I'd much rather pay a bit for services then have them go away!

pretty soon they will start charing us for air! I guess we better starting practing to hold our breath.
We dont really travel but our first trip to wdw last year has me hooked-lol! I wanted to do the eastern carb cruise and a few days at wdw but its way to expensive to fly from So.calif, so we are looking into a carinaval cruise to baja(short cruise 1st timers or mexican rivera)

with airlines charing for everything i will avoid flying, so no caribeane for us

Seriously, if they are that cheap, why don't they just tack on an extra $10 and let you use the restroom whenever?

I have one son who seems to need to go every 20 min. and we fly internationally (try 16.5 hours from Newark to Beijing without going to the bathroom!)

Part of the reason that this isn't really that outrageous on Ryanair is that very few of their flights are more than an hour long.

They are really cheap, and they don't mind admitting it, which is why I don't mind them; they are very much a WYSIWYG airline. They quite often have sales where the fare is actually free; they just charge you the taxes. (Some countries in Europe tax based on capacity, not load.) Ryanair freely admits that they don't make their money on fares at all; they make their money on onboard duty-free sales, and the amenity fees. If you choose not to use the amenities then that is money that you choose to save.

One of the funnier things about Ryanair is what happens if your baggage goes astray. The first thing that they do is look to see how long your trip is -- if you are just going for a few days, they won't bother sending your luggage when it is found; they will just hold it for you at your departure airport, so that you can pick it up when you get back.

I wonder how they deal with the disabled? Isn't it required that the restrooms be available free (in the US) for those with disabilities that necessitate restroom access? I've got Crohn's Disease, and when I need a restroom, I need a restroom quickly.

Ryanair doesn't have flights that leave Europe so I'm sure US law wouldn't apply.

What's next? I can a news report about this airline, "Ryanair replacing all seats with luggage to squeeze more cattle, I mean people on each flight"! No way would I pay to pee!

We had a free cruise same route on carnival and it was the worst vacation of my life. It was like Circus Circus in vegas, the food was disgusting. Sorry OT but I just say save a little longer and go on RC.

If I was buying $50.00 tickets, I would pay to use the bathroom. But I will also go before I got on the plane and not drink anything while on it, just to ensure I would not have to go, just to save myself the $.

Actually since the flights average less than an hour each they are thinking of replacing the third bathroom with an additional six seats on each plane.

I wouldn't drink any Beer on that flight! My bladder sucks so they would be the big losers!:scared:
