Guests moving sleeper chairs at AKV & BLT

Twice now Ive seen mention of potential guests (renters or owners) considering moving the sleeper chair from the living area into the bedroom of the 1 br units at Kidani :confused3

As an owner there I'm concerned about the unit's walls being bashed up and the safety of the individuals attempting to do such a thing.

Short of bolting the chairs to the floor (which we can't do) what can be done to let guests and owners know that this is unacceptable? Can fines be imposed on those who move the furniture about?

If it's been mentioned here, I'm sure out in the general public it's been considered far more. I include BLT in this thread as it too will have the same issue with the sleeper chair in the living room.

Is this a non-issue? Perhaps people will reconsider once they see the chair & doorways. I just don't want to see our dues paying to fix the mess others make moving furniture (I speak from experience here -- you had to have known my exDH to know what damage can be done from moving something as simple as a chair )

As large and heavy as the chair is, I don't see it being possible. We had a hard time angling it a bit so we had enough room to walk between the chair and the bed when they are both open. I can't imagine moving it into the master bedroom.

I hope you're right, but there are quite a number of people out there with more brawn than brains. However, we all know DVC'ers have brains (else we'd still be renting resort rooms through CRO at full price ;) )

There is no way the sleeper chair will fit into a BLT studio room, and would be very tight in the 1bdrm. Don't see it happening at BLT.

We thought about moving the sleeper chair into the second bedroom, so no one would have to sleep in the living room. We didn't do anything with the thought, though. It's a heavy chair...I don't think it would fit through the doorway.

I personally think it's a non-issue, because it isn't the moving of the furniture that is the real problem here. Fact is the walls are going to get dinged from inconsiderate guests moving heavy suitcases & I heard recently that a previous guest had taped things all over the walls ruining the wallpaper/paint. Unfortunately there are just some guests, that just don't care what damage they might cause.

My DH is a big guy & can move furniture around with no problem, but he is also considerate & is very careful not to ding things. We haven't stayed in AKL or BLT yet, but I have asked him to move the chest in the master for a blow up mattress & in the living room we've moved the chair over near the couch for TV viewing, etc. It's our home away from home for the time we're there & as long as we're not damaging anything, I don't see a problem with setting the rooms up in a way that is convenient. Unless of course, someone is trying to squeeze furniture where it won't fit and scratching the doorways, but then it goes back to the fact that they are just inconsiderate & they don't care about damaging the villa anyway. :sad2:

I don't see it as a big deal to make themselves more comfortable. We always re-arrange the furniture slightly to accomodate us better. Things are gonna get dinged no matter what. There are always those incosiderate people who don't care and having it written into the rules would be stupid since it's just common sense that most people have. Like the "caution Hot coffee" statements on paper coffee cups now.

I don't see very many guests doing this. We could barely move it to make room in order to walk around it. It's a lot heavier than it looks.

Furniture disc sliders make it easy (and they are small and cheap), not sure if that chair will fit through a door though. If someone wants to move things-they will find a way. I think/hope it will be rare.

are these the same people that wanted more sleeping options (5 in a studio and 1 bedroom) and now it seems like to many now:lmao:popcorn::

This isn't specific to the hotels you are talking about. I move furniture around in hotel rooms all the time. I am very careful. I run an in-home party business and I do the parties in hotel rooms a lot. Moving coffee tables and couches is something I have to do sometimes, but I am very careful not to hit the walls. Also I have to mark the ceilings once I find the joist and I use the blue painters tape. It doesn't leave a mark when you take it off. So I think it depends on the individual person on how careful they are going to be on moving furniture and putting up decorations.

I don't have an issue with moving furniture around a bit within a room, especially if people are very careful and put things back before they check out. Moving furniture from one room to another does concern me, especially with something as large, heavy and awkward as a sleeper chair. I could see someone opting to try to drag it rather than lift it, causing damage to the carpet in the process. Trying to move such a heavy and awkward object through a doorway into another room already full of over-sized furniture without damaging walls or other furnishings would be a challenge. I would also be concerned that they might check out without putting things back, leaving it to mousekeeping to sort out and potentially causing further check-in delays for the next guests assigned to that room.

It bothers me with AKV in particular (and BLT once it opens) because these resorts are brand new. It's like buying a new car and hoping it stays ding free as long as possible but knowing that you are at the mercy of others, some of whom are not as careful with and considerate of other people's property as you would like.

I think the best thing we can do is let people know that moving the sleeper chair to the master bedroom is not practical and that if they need to have three people sleep in the master BR, an aerobed would be a better solution.

That and how many really have 5 in the party? If its that many than this will be an even tougher ressie to get.

Just what kind of parties are we talking about and do they involve a pole of some kind??:scratchin I'm just thinkin...

We moved the sleeper chair into the master bedroom in our Jambo GV in September, and did it again in our standard Jambo 2BR in April. We were very careful moving the chair, and we didn't damage the chair, the walls, or anything else either time.

We did it so that our daughter would be in our room instead of tying up the common area so that no one could sit on the couch and watch TV or use the kitchen. It worked out just fine, and we moved the chair right back where it had been, when we checked out both times.

Like many things, you have to do it carefully, but if you do, there are no problems.

ITA :thumbsup2 There are those who bring crock pots, etc. which typically are operating for hours while everyone is out of the villa. Guests cook with Foreman Grills, electric skillets, etc. It can be argued that these small appliances can pose a danger &/or do damage to villa as well but when care is taken they are not an issue.

For me it's the size and weight of the sleeper chair that is the issue. I wouldn't want to give people the impression that it is easily moved from one room to another. Some people might be capable of lifting it and carefully moving it into the master bedroom but due to it's size and weight, it's not something that everyone should attempt. My DH and I have moved quite a bit of furniture around our house over the years and we found it difficult to move that chair even a few inches!

Absolutely Lisa, you make a very good point ! Hopefully nobody will do any damage to themself

If the chair is extremely heavy & difficult to move, then perhaps a written warning that it may be hazard to move would be appropriate. But I do have a problem with too many rules & imposing fines as the OP suggested. It would get to the point that I was walking on egg shells in my villa & I'd be afraid to have guests in case they broke a rule. I would also be concerned that they tried to impose a fine on someone because they found a ding on the wall that might've been from a previous guest & they were now accusing the next guest of moving furniture that they didn't. And what if they imposed fines for that....what would be next?

I know sometimes we get bothered that Disney doesn't appear to do much to reign in their guests, but I think the alternative would be much worse. One of the reasons we stay at WDW is because they don't hassle their guests. If you want to swim at 2am in one of the "quiet" pools, nobody is going to bother you as long as you're quiet. I had a security guard yell at me at one of the DTD non-Disney resorts because I tried to bring a plastic cup filled with beer to the pool & they locked the pool up at 10pm which is ridiculous on a hot summer night. I think Disney has it right...security gets called if guests are out of hand & if you trashed a villa, I'm sure you'd be hauled into court to pay some sort of fine. But who wants to feel like you're being policed all the time you're on vacation? Not me! :tiptoe:
