who do you use for travel insurance?

We always use insureandgo as we find it the cheapest in covering all 5 of us (the kids are classed as free) on an annual basis. Don't know about their service as we've not had to make a claim (touch wood!) :rotfl:

Same with us Insure and Go annual policy, although just renewed and almost changed, we buy their top cover(Black) premium went up from £117 to £157. Also last year we got 17% cashback this year they have stopped cashback.
Looked at loads of other companies, couldn't find any with same level of cover any cheaper, main thing I wanted was 2 laptops and camera covering for £500 each, couldn't find another company to do it, they were all £300-£400 cover per item.
If I remember rightly LV looked pretty good with only slightly less cover, their quote was only about £75-80 and they give £10 cashback http://www.quidco.com/lv-travel-insurance/

Don't forget that many bank accounts/credit cards give FREE travel insurance. We get ours included free with our Amex. No need to pay for something you can get free! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

We just got our quote and it's jumped from £160 last year, to £330 this year! :scared1: So, we are looking around. Anyway, I can't get the Insure and Go policy documents to load, so can you answer a question for me Wayne? You say they cover up to £500 for a single item, but what is the total possible payout? Like, say everything ends up getting broke - laptop knocked off table by the maid, and dropping the digital SLR in the park - what's the total they would pay out all holiday/duration of policy? Thanks

Just spent about 30 mins trying to get the pages to load, updated Adobe reader(had to restart 3 times) still no luck.

Heres the cover for their 5 policies.
£1500
£1500
£2000
£2000
£2500

That will be per person but can't access the wording to confirm.

Also consider excess if you have to claim, thats another reason I like their top cover
£120
£60

Glad I'm not the only one having trouble accessing the important information - thought it was just my computer/Acrobat Reader, which could have proved interesting for my OU course, since all study guides are PDFs lol

Yeah, I was only ever looking at the top price insurance! If I'm taking insurance out, I generally get the policy that means there are no excess fees to pay, because that's the last thing you need to be worrying about if something is missing/broken/delayed/someone's in hospital! :rotfl:

Dh and I both get free insurance with our banks so we use that :goodvibes

Don't forget that many bank accounts/credit cards give FREE travel insurance. We get ours included free with our Amex. No need to pay for something you can get free! :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Great if its good cover, I just had a look at Amex, can't find a lot of detail but what I have just found.
Cover for personal belongings(below) lowest I have seen on any policy.
For any one item/pair/set to £150
For valuables in total to £150
Maybe I am reading wrong policy, just make sure you are covered for enough.

most of the bank accounts / credit cards that offer the insurance are those "Premium" accounts with a monthly cost arent they?

Looks fair enough, like I said I was probably looking at wrong one, I couldn't find details of this one. £300/year for the card though, you must gain from other benefits to make it worthwhile.
Full concierge service/free airport lounge access/free rental car insurance/airport park discounts/free 90 day insurance (including accidental damage) on all purchases/global assist/very generous membership rewards points system....loads of other stuff too :) well worth it IMHO :goodvibes

I just see the travel insurance as another added bonus :) We easily get the £300 worth.

Its ok I don't take anything expensive on holiday! :rotfl2:

We have recently changed our house insurance to the Direct Line Home Insurance plus cover and annual travel insurance with winter sports cover is automatically included. It worked out at £27 more than the alternative insurance quote and I thought it was well worth it as the cheapest quote I had was £77 single trip :scared1:

Indeed! My parents have an account like that with Natwest but I keep trying to get them to switch... They pay in a fair amount each month and I think they could get better value from another bank. You can tell i'm a 'MSE convert' ;)

Anyway, insurance: I've used various providers in the past but never had to claim so can't say how good they are in that respect: Directline in 2007, AA last year and travel-insurance-web this year. I went with a combination of best value and Quidco cashback level versus the coverage we wanted. We only get single trip cover and different sites can be better value for that than the ones that are for annual.

Ditto thought it was a pretty good deal as it covers winter sports as well and that can be VERY expensive cover. Also some places charge a lot more for USA and Canada as well.

just renewed our annual policy with Direct Travel.
previous (family) policy was for 2 adults+2 kids
eldest ds has now turned 18 so was expecting to have to take out seperate policy for him as family policy only allows 2 adults, however a very pleasant rep (phone) said they would still include him in the family policy and with a 10% discount as well for re-booking the total cost for their Premier insurance package was only £89!!!!

We use AA Travel Insurance. Family policy comparable with everyone else cost us about £70 and got £9 cashback with quidco.

Got to watch out on all travel insurance for pre-existing conditions. My dh used to be covered by the free bank one then they changed. Insure and go wouldn't cover the condition but would cover everything else. Now with Direct line who to our surprise were happy to cover the pre-existing stuff (even though it is not something we expect to claim on but could effect what treatment they use for something else) Hopefully the subs won't go up too much this year on renewal!
